History

IB Continuum School: Primary Years Programme (PYP) for ages 3 to 11 Middle Years Programme (MYP) for ages 11 to 16 Diploma Programme (DP) for ages 16 to 19

All instruction is in English.

High School Diploma awarded to all students that earn the equivalent of a 3 or above in 21 courses during Grades 9-12.

The majority of students earn the IB DP Diploma or IB DP Course Certificates.

Switched from a 7 period schedule to a block schedule on an 8-day rotation in August 2020

ISU COVID-19 Statement On March 19, 2020 ISU students began virtual learning using Google Meet and Google Classroom and finished the school year online. For the 2020-2021 school year, we began virtual learning in August, but hybrid lessons started in mid-October, 2020 using Zoom. School remained open until June 3, with some temporary closures due to Covid cases on campus. Our final two weeks of the school year were virtual. For the 2021-2022 school year, school began virtually on August 16th. We were able to reopen for the Grade 11 students at the end of September, 2021, and we have remained open since. As a result of virtual learning in fall, 2020, some classes were graded on a Pass/Fail basis for the first semester of Grade 10.

Graduation Pathways: Students can choose one of four Pathways to Graduation: ISU & IB Dual Diploma: Students pursue all ISU HS graduation requirements & all external IB requirements of the IB Diploma.

ISU IB Enriched High-School Diploma: Students pursue all ISU HS graduation requirements & selected IB Course Certificates ISU High-School Diploma: Students pursue all ISU HS graduation requirements, earning the equivalent of a US High School Diploma ISU Individualised Diploma: Students pursue course credits in individualised ISU courses in Career Prep and Life Skills

Creativity, Activity, Service Program (CAS) As an IB World School, ISU requires all Grade 11 and 12 students to participate in the CAS Program as an extension of their academics regardless of their diploma pathway.

Typically students have the opportunity to participate in sports, the arts and STEM competitions internationally through the International Schools of Southern and Eastern Africa (ISSEA) league as well as competing in a smaller, local league. There are a range of after-school activities offered, including Model United Nations, Student Council, and other academic and non-academic activities. Service opportunities are offered as well, most of which take place on the school campus due to safety and logistical concerns.

Please note that all of these opportunities, except for student council, were suspended on 17th March 2020, and all activities resumed by January, 2022.

ISU IB Diploma Scores 2013-2022 ISU students in the class of 2021 were on the IB exam route, where they sat physical exams. Globally, most IB students were on the IB nonexam route, which may have contributed to the increase in the global average.
