International School Manila (ISM) is a private independent school for students in Preschool through Grade 12 and is incorporated under the laws of the Republic of the Philippines as a non-profit, non-stock organization. It was founded in 1920 as the American School, but the name was officially changed in 1970 to reflect its diverse student population. ISM is accredited by the US-based Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and is certified to award both the traditional US High School and International Baccalaureate Diplomas. ISM students represent some 85 different nations with approximately 60% Asian-Pacific, 25% North American, 11% European and the remaining 4% from other regions of the world. ISM is a college preparatory school where instruction is in English, apart from modern language courses. We aim to prepare our students for higher education institutions around the world with the majority of our students attending universities in the US, Canada, UK, Korea, Philippines, Japan and Australia.

Counselor Memberships ISM employs counselors who are committed to providing social, emotional and academic support to each student in our care. All counselors are members of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), its overseas affiliate International Association for College Admission Counseling (IACAC) and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). ISM counselors are bound by the ethical practices of these organizations. Activities ISSBA (the International School Student Body Association) serves as the executive student council. It is an umbrella organization overseeing the activities and direction of ten councils. These subsidiary councils oversee six cultural clubs, six honor societies, six interest clubs, three fine arts clubs, five publications, five event committees and nine service clubs and partners. IASAS (the International Association of Southeast Asia Schools) is a group of six international schools that participate in sports, drama, dance, chess, forensics, debate, music, art, MUN and math competitions. ISM has been a part of the IASAS organization since 1984 (www.iasas.asia). Policy of Limitations Students at ISM are limited in the number of school leadership roles they may hold during any given year. In order to make leadership opportunities available to a greater number of students and ensure the effective and efficient performance by the elected officers, students may not hold more than two leadership positions in the various organizations on campus. There are instances where students are approved to hold more than two leadership positions, but these are rare.
