Del Tura Creative Writer’s Workshop By Nancy Davy Our Del Tura Creative Writers Workshop continues to meet every challenge with flying colors. We currently have 10 contributing members, and an additional new member working on the first assignment. Our ninth challenge was “Creating a beat (Chant)”. Now that we are dabbling a bit with poetic expression, let’s try pounding out a definite beat. The lines do not need to rhyme. We are concentrating on forming a beat. Try choosing openings from the list provided, or choose some of your own. You don’t have to begin every line with it but make repetition integral to the overall poem. Use long lines to create a beat, and, above all, have fun with it. The purpose is to feel how a repeated phrase can become a baseline rhythm for a poem as well as to recognize the difference between meaningful repetition and monotony. Our meeting dates for March are 3/12 and 3/26, from 2:00pm - 3:30 pm in the Card Room. Following are some of the contributions from our writers. Note, all work is available for your reading enjoyment in the library!

The Sun - By Denny Major Did you watch the sun rise today; did it make you come alive? To start your day anew; to start your day with a smile. Did you see the sun set today; did you watch until the last ray? To end your day with a feeling, fulfilled; to once more end your day. Did you see the colors bounce off the clouds; did you hear them speak to you out loud? Hopefully, tomorrow you will be renewed; the sun will rise and set anew. Time - By Denny Major I guess today should be about the garage. It is an ongoing thing. Put up a pegboard, hang some tools. It is an ongoing thing. Empty boxes; place the contents on the shelf; release floor space to put something else. Oh, wait! Creative writing class is creeping up. It is an ongoing thing. What will I write? A story or a poem? It is an ongoing thing. Sweat in the garage or sit in a chair; arrange all the tools or write a new tale? Where will my time be best spent? It is an ongoing thing. Golfing - By Karen Brennan Yesterday I went to golf, my score was off the chart Yesterday I shanked a shot and also banged my cart Yesterday I could not drive or even chip or putt Yesterday I hit a guy; I hit him in the butt. But tomorrow, oh tomorrow, it is another day And tomorrow I will hit my drives well down the long fairway #1 - By Nancy Ashe Through the door comes thunder and lightning, upsetting a blissful moment Through the door comes a message of sadness of a loved one’s passing Through the door walk friends I need so very very much Through the door come their hugs, their smiles, their extra magical touch As days move forward, I finally come to realize Through the door of peace and well-being, my loved one resides. #2 - By Nancy Ashe When I think of the roads travelled In life many miles have unraveled When I think of the surprises that appear Simply by turning the corner and finding someone there When I think of the kind souls that have crossed my path I believe you are truly my other half In life, dreams, ambitions and goals When I think of you, I found pure gold I Was Thinking….. - By Dianne Roderick I would like to teach the world to live in perfect harmony. I was thinking of how compassion and sincerity are missing today. I’d like to create a world where only love would be. I was thinking of how compassion and sincerity are missing today. I would spread the world with kindness and pray for all to see… I was thinking of how compassion and sincerity are missing today. That empathy for humanity will make this world a better place to be. I was thinking of how compassion and kindness are missing today.
