DEAR ISLANDER Dear Islander, I am very happy to report that this year’s Palma Superyacht Show and Palma Boatshow were a great success. With around 32,000 visitors over the five days all the exhibitors who we spoke to were very happy and will be back next year. The sight of 55 Superyachts, of which 29 were sailing yachts was hugely impressive and congratulations to all concerned for getting these boats to the show, as without these yachts, I’m sure the show would not attract the number and quality of visitors who were in attendance. The marina of Moll Vell should also be mentioned as giving the show a super location and ambience. By the time of next year’s show when all the restaurants and bars are fully open it will certainly give the show the perfect venue. This month sees The Superyacht Cup return to our waters, with a full entry of 24 wonderful yachts including the five J- Class Yachts who are returning to Palma for a second time. The class has decided to use this regatta as its main event this year, so competition will be red hot. Two of the J’s, Ranger and Velsheda, have undergone major works during the winter in Palma trying to find that edge of performance to challenge Hanuman who seemed almost invincible last year. We shall be out in the RIB taking lots of photos for next month’s issue, where we will feature a gallery of the event. This event is my favourite week of the season, being able to get up close to some of the finest sailing yachts in the world, with the backdrop of Palma and the Tramuntana Mountains making it the perfect regatta venue.
