Westerpark West Kavel 3

During my six-month tenure at MVRDV, I had the opportunity to work on several projects, with Westerpark West being the one I dedicated the most time to. This Masterplan, designed by MVRDV, is located in Amsterdam and is divided into a series of plots. These plots are being developed with a focus on high-density residential programs to tackle the current housing shortage in the capital.

Thanks to this experience, I was involved in every stage of the project’s development, starting from its initial conception and continuing through the BIM construction development phase. I also gained valuable insights into the dynamics of an international firm and participated in meetings with clients, consultants, and municipal technicians.

Furthermore, I had the chance to enhance my software skills. I became proficient in programs like Illustrator and Enscape, while my competences in Rhinoceros and Revit, which were the primary tools I worked with, significantly improved. This improvement led to higher levels of productivity and better quality of results.

The following page showcases my work on the Westerpark West project, taking you through the various design phases and culminating in the most advanced renderings on the current page.

Architect. Spring 2024 | Barcelona

Alula Hub Design Competition

Throughout my work experience at RBTA I have been involved in several large scale projects, but the project I enjoyed the most was this competition which consisted of developing a palace and residential complex in the rocky desert of Alula, Saudi Arabia.

It is a huge enclosure located around a large rock formation, so it was decided to generate a ring-shaped planning, which organises all the landscaping and gives coherence to the whole. This ring has a topographical treatment, through dunes and native vegetation, and serves as a transition between the rock and the desert, as well as integrating the architectural programme.

The architectural elements respond to a residential programme that invites people to enjoy the environment, relax, stroll and meditate. The buildings are integrated into the environment thanks to a geological treatment of the façade through layers that protect and provide shade and freshness to the interior.

Exectutive Housing Project at Les Guilleries, Viladrau.

During my work experience at ABAA, I collaborated in the preparation of the executive project for the construction of a terraced housing development in Viladrau, Girona. I was responsible for tasks involving drawing, analysis, projection, and the resolution of project and construction issues that arose during the development of these documents.

Starting with a preliminary design, I modified and adjusted the plans, sections, and elevations of the dwellings to meet the project’s technical requirements. The outcome of my work was the complete drafting of the executive project, along with all the corresponding graphic and written documentation.

2.1 (pre)Fàbrica, (in)Nova Manresa, Cataluña.

Master Thesis | Spring 2023

MHIB-MarqEtsab / Prof. Alberto Peñín y Judith Leclerc

The city of Manresa has played a significant historical role in the textile industry of Catalonia. Its strategic location, at the confluence of the rivers Cardener and Llobregat, has been pivotal to its development. This position allowed it to serve as a meeting and trade hub between different regions and marked the origin of the first spinning mills. Today, a substantial urban vacuum remains in the area of the Bertrand i Serra Factory, popularly known as the Fábrica Nova This location was once the industrial heart of the city, employing more than 3,000 workers.

Presently, the 69,000 square-meter site is characterized by a substantial urban void with irregular topography and a large excavation near the remnants of unfinished structures, a result of a previously unsuccessful urbanization project.

A proposal is put forth for the establishment of a new UPC Campus for Innovation, based on a Master Plan that takes these existing conditions into account. The goal is to provide the city with a new green space that connects various neighborhoods and serves as a new center of activity, connectivity, and urban development for the city.

To achieve this, the plan suggests repurposing the existing factory for teaching spaces, while the rest of the campus program is concentrated in separate modules that are detached from the main factory structure. These modules are elevated to create an urban gallery, forming the central axis of the campus routes, and housing the entrances to these facilities.

For the architectural program, one of these modules has been dedicated to teaching laboratories, and adjacent to it, a partially submerged university library has been situated, capitalizing on the existing excavation. Additionally, a green roof has been installed atop the library. The construction and structural principles aim for modularity and standardization of all elements, enabling direct factory production to reduce costs and construction time.

Furthermore, principles of passive climate control, energy conservation, and rainwater management have been integrated into the project’s design and technical development.

Sustainable Urban Dynamics | Fall 2019

Andreas Olsson Design Studio

“A resilient green neighbourhood that strengthens community bonds and generates new opportunities for the city”

UNIV. OF LUNDLTH
3.1

The community superblocks are the most important feature of the plan. They are intended to act as boundaries between two different environments: the grid system of busy streets and the more intimate community space within the blocks. The former gives continuity to the city by emulating its commercial and bustling character, while the latter is the result of a space designed with a greater green matrix and human scale.

For the design process, references to traditional Chinese urbanism and architecture, such as the Linpan, the Hutong and the Siheyuan, have been studied. The aim is for the new inhabitants of this neighbourhood to feel a sense of belonging, reinforced by the community facilities and services.

Residential development project in Malmö.

The project begins by harnessing the environmental conditions of its location, conducting a comprehensive analysis of the area, and giving particular attention to the strong winds prevalent on the site, necessitating the need for protective measures.

The concepts of passive architecture and urban ecology discussed in class are applied to create a resilient and energy-efficient neighborhood.

Advanced Architectural Design | Spring 2020 Proffesors: Erik Serrano / Christer Malmström

The flow of people and the connection with the nearby train station, which serves as a major transit hub for countless daily commuters, are the key considerations and starting points that inform this project. The project envisions a multi-purpose building that will function as a central gathering place for the diverse transient population of this university city and its permanent residents.

Simultaneously, the building’s design aims to minimize its visual impact, seamlessly blending into the surrounding terrain. This approach offers numerous opportunities for improving energy efficiency, optimizing natural light, creating various atmospheres, and integrating with the adjacent public spaces.

The project is developed based on natural principles, analyzing existing resources and harnessing them for the project’s benefit. It was decided to establish an outreach center for the cultivation and treatment of numerous indigenous plant species, along with laboratories for researching organic building materials like mycelium.

The complex’s operation is conceptualized as a trophic chain, integrating various research programs related to sustainable agricultural production. For each program, research has been conducted to identify different types of industrial elements that can be seamlessly integrated into the system

The project is based on the assembly of two emblematic projects of 1950s industrial architecture: Albert Kahn’s Ford factory and Mies Van Der Rohe’s Lake Shore Drive flats. The site of the former project, now entirely abandoned, serves as the canvas where both construction systems converge, giving rise to an open matbuilding with high density and a mix of uses.

Through an exploration of usage levels, energy generation, light control, and various atmospheric conditions, a combined programmatic infill is proposed.

The result is a modular and adaptable intervention designed to address urban-scale challenges and revitalize the dilapidated industrial areas of Detroit.

Integrated construction design | Fall 2021

The building is designed as a hybrid and compact complex for the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, comprising offices, classrooms, a cafeteria, library, and an auditorium. The top two floors are dedicated to student housing.

The design and execution of the structure, envelope, and integration of the installation systems are critical aspects of the project’s development.
