RESIDENCE

A House is a building that has the ability to be occupied for dwelling by human beings. The need for shelter by man has always been an issue for both the person in need of a house and the people with the responsibility of providing the house or designing it. The house designs always reflect the socio-cultural characteristics of the people, because they were built by the people themselves.

CONCEPT A family is a mix of smiles, laughters and tears and so are the moments.

Family is being together, standing sturdy and stout in the ups and downs of life. A house should be the same. Reflection of ups and downs but still firm.

The concept is taken from the above stated itself. Various blocks having their own meanings have been stacked together depicting unity.

Furthermore adding the concept of ups and downs in a family, the blocks are staggered. Even after being staggered they are stable and hence add more beauty and somehow strengthens the bond with each other.

METHODOLOGY A village of Ludhiana, Punjab is selected in vicinity which represents the vernacular architecture style of Punjab. It has been intentionally divided into three regions geographically for detailed study of various aspects ranging from how the village was settled to functioning in present times.

The groups were required to conduct studies of all the major components including history and evolution of village settlement, geographical background, socio-economic status & demography, building typology with age, height, material & architectural elements of structure.

OBJECTIVES 1. To understand rural evolution of settlements, the basic structuring typologies and their form.

2. To understand the psyche of rural people and acknowledge their cultures and traditions.

CONCLUSION Village is a place where fervour of different people of different communities are amalgamated. The vernacular architecture of Punjab is prominently seen in the village. But there are a lot of problems which people face due to inchoate infrastructure. People of the village have now shifted to abroad due to the reason that villages are not so developed.

GROUP HOUSING

Housing is one of the basic human needs and ranks after food and clothing in terms of priority. It is not merely confined to the four-walls which make a house but also all supporting infrastructure which are required to sustain the human beings in terms of physical and social infrastructure. Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) is developing yet another multi-storey housing scheme– Atal Apartments, in 8.55 acres in Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar on Pakhowal Road, Ludhiana.

The project will include following facilities: a) HIG-1 (4 BHK) b) HIG-2 (3 BHK) c) MIG (2 BHK) d) EWS (1 BHK)

PRIMARY SCHOOL

India is demographically one of the youngest countries in the world. One of the major problems is that there are too many unviable subscale government schools in India with only a few number of students & inadequate resources. The major thought behind the competition is to address the issue of the poor conditions of government schools in India through architecture by proposing a Model School which can be repeated across the state/nation. These educational spaces will also be useful to the local community post school hours. The proposed is a school for 400 students from Nursery to grade 5 with all state of the innovative art facilities.
