The Parents Association and the Student Council worked efficiently with the ISD staff members and with the teachers to support those in need. This cohesion has led to the achievement of a goal unprecedented in the school's history, which our director indicated,“...a personal example of the educational power of charity. The number of parcels donated is practically the same as the number of people who study and teach at the school every day.” But how did all this fundraising get started?
The school learned that the "shoebox" campaign was taking place in Debrecen again this year and that several schools had been taking part for years. Once the parents knew about it, it was clear that our school, which has been a participant for the second year now, would collect even more parcels this year. And so we did, with more than 160 parcels making Christmas brighter for an incredible number of children and families in need. The PA President said that there will be more presents under the Christmas tree next year and that the school will definitely participate in the following period as well.
The Christmas celebrations organized by the Student Council included a special Christmas fundraiser fair, the entire proceeds of which, more than 60,000HUF, will go to help those in need. In the shoeboxes, not only toys could be donated, but also, based on a previous request from the Debrecen Charity Board, (Debreceni Karitatív Testület) cleansing products, various shower gels, deodorants, and hygiene tools were provided. These items will help to make the children's everyday life more healthy and hopefully will give them the confidence to overcome everyday challenges and difficulties. It is through charitable acts such as these that ISD hopes to build its foundation of spirit and giving to those in need. We truly hope to become a school community for others.

February includes a very important event for all Hungarians, which is Farsang. Farsang is really about saying goodbye to winter, as February marks the end of the cold days. STUCO asked students to come up with the best activities and in the end, they produced 5 fun ones:

Costume contest Dance with a professional dance instructor Karaoke Donut eating contest ("the best thing of all) Just Dance
Another event that was organized was the Valentine's Box. It was present all day in the MYP cafeteria. STUCO, considering that after this day there was a one-week break, decided to combine Valentine's day with the Carnival.

All the events were interesting and fun for both MYP and PYP students. They had the theme of ‘Carnivals Around the World’ . It reinforced the students and developed their global thinking skills as they thought about people from other parts of the world and gave an introduction on the specific event after researching their cultures.
