What have you learned from your audience feedback? For the genre that I am looking at the target audience can vary from teenagers right through to people in their mid-40’s. Instead of having such a big target audience I decided to make it smaller and age it between 15 and 25. Seeing as the band are so young it is easier for a young audience to connect with a young band. The lyrics that they produce are from a teenager’s perspective and that is one way they can relate with the music. Gaining feedback from your audience is a vital part of making a music video. As they are the ones who would be watching it; it’s important to get their opinions of what is good and bad. There will always be criticism and room for improvement. But this is all given to make the music video have a higher success with the target audience.

Social media contributes highly when it comes to feedback. One of the ways I got feedback was uploading a link from my YouTube onto my Facebook account. I also got my friend to share the link as well. This allowed people my age to

watch my music video and express their opinion on it whether it was good or bad. My first feedback was from a fellow student within my There are different creative ways media class. I showed her my first in which you can collect feedback. draft which is where I portrayed an

understanding of what shots I will be using, as well as her getting an idea of what my music video will look like. This would include the mise-en-scene, so what the band would wear, as well as how the overall shot looks like. Showing a media student means that they can give you feedback in detail. They can say whether the pace of the shots is too long or too short, as well as saying whether you need a better variety of shots. Comparing this to a none media student, you are unlikely going to get the audience to use terms such as: long shots, extreme close ups or jumps cuts. Being a media student, they can give you critical feedback with the correct media language. The common feedback I got for my first draft was having problems with the lip-syncing. This was a problem that I knew I would face, as making a music video is completely new to me and can be difficult. On the

other hand, I had comments on how I had a good variety of shots, and that the pace of the shots varied which kept audience intrigued to see what was coming next. As well as that people commented on how using a real band helped to further portray my music video as a real one. When I came back to editing my music video I made sure that I adjusted the shots ever so slightly so that the lip-syncing is in time. Following my first draft, I went on to create another draft where I finalised all the shots. After having feedback for my first draft I waited until I added the effects the get some more feedback. For my 3rd music video draft I added effects by adjusting the colour. I think that red helps to resemble an indie vibe and carrying on with a similar theme from my AS magazine I decided to make the video have a red tint. This helped to make my video unique and different as well

as fitting in with the indie/rock vibe. Following on, to make my video more intriguing to my target audience I decided to add layers to my 4th draft. This is very simple to create but adds effect to the video and makes it look professional. You also had the contrast between the two layers as the bottom was red, and the top was the original colouring. For this draft I decided to get my final group of feedback. Like my previous feedback I looked at both my target audience as well as media students, but this time instead of putting the video up on my Facebook, I asked people directly who are within my target audience. I noticed that each person said a similar critic when it came to what I could improve on. They mentioned how I may have used too man effects, and that at different aspects there can be too much going on. In addition, one

person mentioned how I could have more of a variation between the two locations that I filmed at. On the other hand, I had successful feedback such as people saying I had a good selection and variety of shots, as well as the fact of using a real band adds to the realism of the performance. When it came to editing my final draft I decided to take out some of the layers. This included me having no layers when it hits the chorus. The reason behind this is that the audience can fully focus on the bands high energy performance when the chorus plays. In addition, I also extended some of the shots so that the layers could finish when the beat drops at the end of the song. An example of this is when I carry the shot of the guitarist over the long shot of the band until the end of the video. This helps to carry on the high energy till the end of the song, and keeps the audience interested.
