Walking wounded team reaches Clermont A team of contemporary veterans and families of fallen soldiers are traversing the country from North to South, raising funds and awareness to support the psychological rehabilitation of wounded Australian soldiers. Walking 65km a day for 65 days, before kayaking Bass Strait – this is the first ever attempt at traversing the Australian continent under full human power. On Monday June 29, the Walking Wounded team hit Clermont; welcomed by local community members at the Clermont RSL. Charity Founder, Brian Freeman, and the entourage team spoke of the support to date, and the reason the charity exists – commenting on the tragically high suicide rate, and support needed for our contemporary veterans.
The team asked that anyone who knows local veterans in their community, to reach out to them and ask if they’re okay. Walking Wounded offers support services including re-training, re-education and job placement opportunities, as well as counselling services, personal and professional development; and suicide prevention and intervention. The Walking Wounded team expect to reach South East Cape, Tasmania in late August, after travelling through 89 towns and cities. You can follow, support and donate at www.trackthetribute.org.au
