Council meets in the Old Library at Clermont

COUNCILLORS CONVENE IN CLERMONT Isaac Regional Council wrapped up its bimonthly schedule of rotational regional meetings for 2018-19 with a visit to Clermont this week. Following last year’s successful ‘show day’ meeting of Council in Clermont, Councillors resolved to rotate the location of Council’s Ordinary Monthly Meeting around the communities of the region every second month. “Over the past year we have taken our Ordinary Monthly Meeting ‘on the road’ to St Lawrence, Glenden, Dysart, Nebo and Middlemount,” Mayor Baker said. “This week we came full circle, back to Clermont, to coincide with the 2019 Clermont Show – the Isaac Region’s Show. “Our monthly meeting is the decision-making forum of the elected Council, so this rotational schedule of meetings has been an opportunity for residents in more of our communities to see the process of local government in action. “The tyranny of distance means it is not always possible for people to come to Moranbah to attend our meetings, so instead we’ve been going to them.

“This decision was about improving representation, inclusion and community engagement, which are key principles of the Local Government Act.” Mayor Baker said the monthly meeting in Clermont’s Old Library was followed by a visit to the show by Councillors from across the Isaac region, providing community members with an additional opportunity to connect with the Council. “Engagement with the community at major events, such as the Clermont Show, is an important part of our role as Councillors,” she said. “It also provides local residents and community groups a greater opportunity to engage with the full council, in addition to their divisional representatives, Councillors Lyn Jones and Greg Austen.” Mayor Baker said Council had, once again, been proud to be a major sponsor of the Clermont Show. “The long history of the Clermont Show traces back to the very origins of agricultural exhibitions in Queensland, pre-dating even Brisbane’s famed Ekka, and Council is proud to be a part of that tradition,” she said. Council’s next regional meeting will be at Carmila in July 2019.
