ISAAC CLEAN-UP FOLLOWS SEVERE STORM Mayor Anne Baker has praised the resilience of the Isaac community and the actions Council crews, emergency services and essential service providers in response to Tuesday night’s severe storm.
“I thank the local community for their patience and understanding during the clean-up and service restoration from the storm.”
Cr Baker said the Isaac Region Local Disaster Coordination Centre had been activated in response to the storm to support clean-up operations in the aftermath of the event.
“A number of animals were spooked by the storm and escape and we are endeavoring to repatriate registered animals with their owners at no cost,” she said.
“This was a significant storm event which many have compared to Cyclone Debbie in terms its impact and widespread damage,” Cr Baker said. “Wind gusts of 93km/h were recorded at Clermont on Tuesday afternoon, while rainfall of 35mm brought with it hailstones 4-8cm in size, north-west of town. “Several thousand properties were blacked out across the region with power restored to Clermont by Wednesday morning.
Cr Baker said Council’s animal management rangers were working to reunite residents with their four-legged friends who may have escaped in the storm.
Mayor Baker said following storm events, members of the community were encouraged to report tree falls and storm debris on public lands and roads to Council on 1300 ISAACS (1300 47 22 27) to assist with the clean-up process.
