CHARITY GALA SUPPORTS MENTAL HEALTH A record crowd of 350 guests filled Moranbah’s Town Square for the Isaac region’s gala night of nights under the stars, the 2019 Mayor’s Charity Ball. Guests at the glitzy event, which raises funds for the Isaac Regional Charity Fund, were entertained by Master of Ceremonies, popular Mackay broadcaster Dave Perkins, comedy magician Brad Manuel and musical act Mezzanine. Mayor Anne Baker, who chairs the Isaac Regional Charity Fund, said the sixth staging of the event had been the biggest yet, raising money for vital mental health initiatives. “It was a record-breaking event and I thank everyone for their continuing support. Together, we can make a real difference in people’s lives,” she said. “It demonstrates the difference pure people power can make in the lives of others. “Since 2014, the wonderful generosity of our Isaac community and event sponsors has helped the Isaac Regional Charity Fund raise more than $306,000 for worthwhile causes which assist the most vulnerable in our society. “Proceeds from this year’s event will help continue the work of the Isaac Regional Charity Fund in supporting mental health initiatives.

“As a community, we need to continue to work together to bring mental health out of the shadows and into the national consciousness. The work of the Isaac Regional Charity Fund is helping to make a difference. “Mental illness affects one-in-five Australians at some stage in their life. More than three million Australians are living with depression or anxiety and every day eight are taking their own life nationally.” Mayor Baker acknowledged the generous support of the event’s 2019 sponsors. “The generous and valued support of Isaac businesses and organisations, through sponsorship and donations, plays a major part in the continuing success of the event. I thank all our 2019 sponsors for supporting this important community event,” she said. Isaac Regional Charity Fund is a deductible gift recipient, which means it can receive tax-deductible gifts. There are a range of ways people and business can support the fund. To find out more contact the office of the Mayor on 07 4846 3398 or email mayorsball@isaac.qld.gov.au

CATTLE DROVING ON KILCUMMIN DIAMOND DOWNS ROAD, CLERMONT Isaac Regional Council wishes to advise residents and users of the road network that a drover has been permitted under the Stock Route Management Act 2002 to be droving 1,700 head of stock along Kilcummin Diamond Downs Road through to the Wuthung Road:

from August 2 to September 22

All traffic travelling these roads are advised to be aware of the signage and slow down and take care around the cattle. The Stock Route Network within the Isaac Region is a valuable asset. The network is utilised for moving large herds of cattle on foot from Council to Council and provides a valuable feed asset during times of drought. CR JONES’ COLUMN What the heck, can our lives get any busier? I know it is just not me because when you talk to people, they all say the same thing; “where does the time go to? There are just not enough hours in the day.” I wonder if we all should just stop and try to prioritise what we really want to do and what we really have to do and then try for the happy balance. Gee, it would be nice to think that we could manage that.

Clermont also hosted the 20th Gold and Goal festival last Friday and Saturday. What a treat for our small community to be able to participate and enjoy all that it had to offer. Big thank you to all that assisted and gave up their time to bring this together. I might add that I did not win the pendant raffle, but to Helen, who did win it, I reckon it could not have gone to a nicer lady. Helen is also another one of our local volunteers who gives up her time every Friday to help at Montcler.

What I do know for absolute certain is that Axel just has the best life. He lounges around on one of his lounges, stretched out without a care in the world. He gets cold, and we cover him; he gets hungry, and he gets to eat whatever he wants. Yes, he does have food choices. In return, though we have the most loyal and loving companion that you could ever ask It feels like I am saying a lot of “thank you’s” but it for. He had smoko up at Montcler last Friday and spent a few hours just getting patted and stroked by does not hurt to acknowledge and to let people know that we appreciate everything that some do our older citizens. for others. Our business people who donate and give to our community for every function or raffle or sporting events - they don’t have to give, but they do. So thank you. If anyone is looking for something to do that is local, why not take a visit out to our Museum. Mel and her volunteers will make you welcome and will be able to enlighten you on practically any topic you may wish to discuss. See, once again the word “volunteers” comes up again. We just cannot thank them enough. Speaking of Montcler, I want to say thank you so much to Jules, who always has the best interests of our residents close to her heart and makes the days for them so much more fulfilled. There are also a lot of our townspeople who give up their time to spend precious hours with our Montcler residents as volunteers. They do this because they want to, and they can see how much their time is appreciated by the residents. Congratulations to the Clermont Bush Pigs. Our town came together last Saturday to watch the Piggies bring home the Grand Final. Well done to Jake and all the boys.

CLERMONT RAG

I am just sitting here now and wondering what other news I can tell you and then I looked at the length of my column and thought “gosh!” I think I might have waffled on enough for this fortnight. Until next time. Lyn

BIG OPPORTUNITIES FOR SMALL BUSINESSES It is not often that small businesses have the opportunity to attend professional, hands on business workshops in their region. The Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) has developed a program providing 12 different workshops for small businesses from July through to November.

The Program delivered by Impact Improvements will provide participants with the knowledge, practical actions, tools and templates to develop a business plan. This is a full day workshop including a one on one business strategy mentoring session presented by Tania Begg from Impact Improvements.

Coming up in Clermont there are opportunities for businesses to build skills in Marketing, Digital and Business Strategy.

This includes a one on one session with the mentor in your own business.

This full day workshop presented by Vicki Smith from Concept Consulting will provide business owners with the knowledge of the fundamentals of marketing. This workshop helps small businesses create targeted marketing campaigns and learn helpful hints and tips for marketing individual products and your whole business.
