ISAAC STUDENTS GET A CHANCE TO SEE WHAT LIES BEYOND More than 800 school students and parents from across the Isaac region will have a chance to explore the great prospects in Isaac as they search for a career at the Education and Career Pathways Expo. Students from Clermont, Dysart, Glenden and Moranbah will attend Moranbah State High School on 8 August to learn about opportunities in mining, local government, childcare, education, defence, police and much more. Mayor Anne Baker said there were many reasons for students to stay and embark on an exciting career in the region. “Our region has access to world-class export infrastructure, from prime agricultural land to the mineral rich basins, and a coastal strip that brings tourism opportunities,” Mayor Baker said. “The unemployment rate in the Isaac region is one of the lowest in Australia at 1.6 per cent. “Isaac also has the highest concentration of top income earning in Queensland, making a career in the region a lucrative choice.” Mayor Baker said it was Isaac’s family-friendly communities that offer a safe and relaxed lifestyle which make it a great choice for staying and working in the region.

“From the modern mining towns of Moranbah, Middlemount and Dysart, to the historic communities of Nebo, Clermont and St Lawrence and small picturesque coastal villages and rural localities, the diversity of the region is ripe with opportunities. “The Careers Expo each year gives businesses a chance to source and build the skills from local students, and the young people can see what training and education is necessary to get a job in their preferred industry,” Mayor Baker said. Isaac Regional Council will be in attendance showcasing several trainee and apprenticeship opportunities for students to gain a nationally recognised qualification while working “The Expo is vital to building Isaac’s future in all sectors of the region as the region looks towards maintaining a sustainable and efficiently working communities,” Mayor Baker said. The Education and Careers Pathway Expo is open from 10am to 2pm, 8 August at Moranbah State School.

Isaac Libraries’ RBdigital collection has more than 120 titles, both new and back editions. There are no holds, no checkout periods and no limits on the collection.
SPOTLIGHT ON RAYMOND KHOURY Raymond Khoury is a Lebanese novelist and screenwriter. Khoury was born in Lebanon and moved to the United States with his family as a teenager when fighting broke out in Lebanon. After finishing his schooling, he returned to Lebanon to study architecture at the American University in Beirut. After Khoury graduated he ended up in London and worked for a small architecture practice. Raymond later moved into investment banking and developed an interest in writing. He met a Wall Street investment banker who also wrote screenplays and this inspired Khoury to attempt screenwriting. He completed a screenplay called The Last Templar, which a friend submitted to a book agent. Khoury was offered a six-figure advance and book deal but with stipulation that the book excluded all references to religion.
The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions. They are a great way to connect with other parents with young children. BABY BOUNCE (0-2 years) Come along on Thursdays from 9.30am to 10am. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song. STORY TIME AND CRAFT (0-5 years) This is held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9.30am to 10.30am. Bright, vibrant picture book tales come alive when read by library staff along with a simple craft activity which helps enhance fine motor skill development.
