Isaac supports drought affected communities with $115,000 in programs An Isaac Community Drought Support Grant behind Clermont’s Beyond the Goal Posts Dinner supporting mental health – Craig Hamilton, Jeff & Sarah Cook, Wayne Bennett
Isaac Regional Council is injecting more $65,000 in programs to support its drought affected communities, with another $50,000 to be distributed in 2016.
The dinner ‘Beyond the Goal Posts’ welcomed Bronco’s coach Wayne Bennett and ABC Sports journalist and broadcaster Craig Hamilton to the region.
The funding, secured through the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services Community Drought Support Package, seeks to strengthen the resilience of drought affected Queenslanders by improving access to and participation in support services and community events.
Mrs Cook said the event was bigger than expected, attracting an audience of more than 350 with people as far as Cunnamulla and Rockhampton.
Mayor Anne Baker said she welcomed the funding which is making a big impact in the region’s rural communities. “I welcome this generous support from the Queensland government,” she said. “Council has been successful in securing more funding for next year, and we are calling for expressions of interest from our rural and drought affected communities to put forward meaningful and effective initiatives for support,” she said. “In tough times, it’s vital our people are connected and have access to the right support services, and that’s what we’re seeking to achieve,” she said. “If one person’s life is saved, touched or improved by this drought support, then we’ve achieved something priceless.” Community groups interested in partnering with Council on drought support initiatives are encouraged to complete an Expression of Interest Form available on Council’s website or contact Council’s Grants Administration Officer on 1300 472 227. Council recently partnered with Clermont residents Jeff and Sarah Cook under the Community Drought Support Package to host a sell-out dinner for mental health.
“We wanted to share Craig and Wayne’s message with as many people as possible, without them being ‘out of pocket’ at a time when it’s financially tight for many,” she said. “Our goal was to shine light on mental health in a relaxed environment and break down some of the stigmas that surround it, hopefully we’ve done that.” “The response we have since had following the event has been overwhelming – with a large number of people commenting on what an impact the night has had on them.” All additional money raised from the event has been donated to the Tie Up The Black Dog committee, run by three ladies in Southern Queensland who devote their time to mental health awareness in rural communities. Drought declared areas in the Isaac Region are encouraged to access further Government Support through the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries at www.daf.qld.gov.au. Community Budget Bids an opportunity to submit a Christmas wish
In the lead up to Christmas, Isaac Regional Council is encouraging residents to submit community improvements they wish to see through submitting Community Budget Bids. Community Budget Bids for the 2016-17 financial year are now open, closing Monday February 1. Mayor Anne Baker hopes that many Isaac residents will take up the opportunity to have input into the new financial year Budget by submitting a bid. “If residents have a suggestion to help improve community programs or resources then we really encourage them to submit a Community Budget Bid,” she said. “We are proud to be a region that promotes community input during the budgeting process.”
“We welcome all submissions as they provide us with valuable feedback as to how we can make the Isaac region a better place to live, work and play.” Community Budget Bid forms can be downloaded from www.isaac.qld.gov.au/budget or obtained by visiting your local Council office. Council also provides assistance to community groups and organisations through its Community Grants Program. More details are available at www.isaac.qld.gov.au/community-grants-radf. The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions and these sessions are a good way to connect with parents and young children. CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane. While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. Boot camp Boot camp is a type of outdoor group class that mixes your traditional calisthenic and body weight exercise with interval and strength training. Our boot camp incorporates; tyre flipping and throwing, battle rope work, kettlebell, fence climbing and much more! It is a work at your own pace
class, designed to be challenging whilst also having fun! Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/ low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness. Lets lift circuit Resistance Circuit works on the principle of Circuit Training with stations broken down into a lower and upper body weights workout, using the subscription of low weights high repetition to develop a challenging total body workout, ensuring lean muscle mass gains. Metafit This is a 30 minute bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire! Open gym This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training. THUMP boxing is a moderate to high intensity cardio boxing class. This class is specifically effective in defining the body’s musculature, while improving balance, flexibility, and co-ordination. The cardio component uses the body’s energy systems and improves your ability to use oxygen, helping you to work harder for longer and burn fat in the process.
