Isaac region cycling product Anna Meares was the first to carry the Queen’s Baton, accepting the baton from Queen Elizabeth in London at the start of the relay. The Olympic, Commonwealth and World Champion cyclist started competitive riding as a youngster growing up in Middlemount.
COUNTDOWN TO QUEEN’S BATON RELAY The countdown is well and truly on for the arrival of the Queen’s Baton in the Isaac region next week as it journey across Queensland in the lead-up to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. The Queen’s Baton Relay will visit the communities of Nebo, Coppabella, Moranbah and Clermont on Wednesday 21 March and Isaac Region Mayor Anne Baker is urging the local community to share in the excitement of the event. “Share in the exciting experience of the Queen’s Baton Relay as it travels through our wonderful Isaac region on its journey to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games,” she said. “This is our region’s opportunity to share the dream in the lead-up to one of the world’s biggest sporting events, right here in Queensland. “I encourage you to showcase to Australia and the world, the pure people power which drives our regions by making this important occasion a day to remember in the Isaac region. “Join the celebrations in each host community and line the streets of the relay route to cheer on our local
