Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said it is a sad reality to a happy season that the region continues to see a spike in the number of roaming or abandoned dogs and cats over the Christmas and New Year period. “Owning a pet is not a novelty, it is an enormously important responsibility for the life of that animal both financially and emotionally,” Mayor Baker, who is the chair of the Domestic Dog Advisory Committee, said. “Many of the dogs we pick up over the holidays are because an owner has lost interest, and no one has stepped in and took the time to provide training and care. “Dogs need outdoor exercise every single day, and a huge investment is needed to train a puppy. “Council unleashed its Paws-itive Blueprint for Responsible Pet Ownership in July this year with three characters – Mary Puppins, Sherlock Bones and Bark Vader – assisting in reminding residents of their obligations, community safety and animal welfare. “We want to all Isaac pet owners to be responsible pet owners, which includes microchipping, registering

EXHIBITION HONOURING PIONEERING WOMEN IN SCIENCE AND ART In a first for the Isaac region, the Australian Museum is sending a travelling exhibition celebrating the legacy of two great scientific illustrators to the Moranbah Coalface Art Gallery.
Lepidoptera and their Transformations – depicting caterpillars in life-like poses, gorgeous butterflies and native flowers – are considered to be among their finest work, and are still used by scientists today.
Transformations: Art of the Scott Sisters is an exhibition featuring reproductions of 39 delicate watercolours of butterflies and moths based on the original illustrations of Harriet (Hattie) and Helena (Nellie) Scott, two of Australia’s most prominent 19th Century natural history artists.
Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said it was an incredible honour to have the Australian Museum exhibition come to the Moranbah.
Kim McKay AO, Australian Museum Director and CEO said Hattie and Nellie Scott exuded wit, intelligence and scientific expertise at a time when these qualities were largely attributed solely to men. “The sisters were incredibly talented and determined to make a difference, flying in the face of gender norms of the time, yet they were unable to study science formally at Sydney University as they had wished,” she said. “Their work at the Australian Museum in the 1850s to 1870s provided them with an outlet for their extraordinary talents, having been taught the techniques to paint flora and fauna by their father, A.W. Scott, who was also an artist and scientist. He shared with them the scientific skills to observe, collect and record behavioural and distribution data,” she said. “This is the first time ever that Council has collaborated with the Australian Museum to bring a world class exhibition to the Coalface Art Gallery,” Mayor Baker said. “This is a momentous occasion for the gallery, and I would like to extend a thank you to the Australian Museum for loaning us the exhibition. “The fascinating history about the Scott sisters and their art work will entertain visitors for the duration of the exhibition.” Visitors to Transformations: Art of the Scott Sisters are invited to turn back the pages and discover the captivating story of these two extraordinary women, whose love of nature and tremendous skill in rendering its beauty enabled them to distinguish themselves amid the male-dominated world of 19th Century science.
The exhibition is running from 9 December, 2019 to 21 February, 2020.

WATER METER READS ACROSS ISAAC - DECEMBER AND JANUARY Isaac Regional Council’s water meter readers will soon begin meter readings to measure the consumption for upcoming water notices. To help ensure the charges are accurate, efficient and reliable, the manual water meter read project will take place across Isaac between the hours of:
6am to 6pm Monday, 16 December 2019 to Friday, 10 January 2020 The program will not be operating during public holidays and weekends. This is in preparation for the water notices to be issued for the period of July 2019 to December 2019. This notice is expected to be sent to ratepayers in February 2020. All meter-reading contractors will carry official Council identification. Authorisation to undertake the water meter reads is under Section 37 of the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008. Council encourages the use of MiWater, a website where residents can sign up to receive water consumption information. Residents can set email and SMS alerts and be notified of water leaks and high consumption within days of occurrence, see www.isaac.qld.gov.au/miwater for more details. What a beefed-up year it’s been in our community again in 2019. Council was proud to continue its’ support of the Clermont Beef Expo in October and we congratulate Hoch and Wilkinson, the organising committee, members and volunteers on yet another successful event. The construction of the announcer’s box and infrastructure upgrades were completed at the Clermont Showground and Saleyards as part of the large-scale Revitalisation Program. We’re looking forward to the next phase which includes extension to the sale yards, replacement of the stables and a new ablution block. In November, antique bottle collector Steve Petterson shared his passion and stories as a special guest at the Clermont Historical Centre. It was fascinating to have Steve here offering his unique insight into the history of Central Queensland bottles.

Patrons can access Freegal Music through the Libraries, Arts and Cultural Services link on the Isaac Regional Council website or download the Freegal app on to a device. You will need your library membership number and Libero password to access Freegal. You can stream three hours of free music each day and download three titles to keep per week.
BORROWBOX READING LISTS BorrowBox has introduced a Reading List function to enable users to easily save eAudiobooks and eBooks onto their own list. Add titles to your reading list by pressing and holding a cover anywhere in the app, or by tapping the ‘more’ button on the title’s details screen. Titles added to reading lists will automatically display in reading lists across all of the user’s devices.
School age children are welcome to sign up for the Summer Reading Club and join in the activities in their local Isaac library and online. The Summer Reading Club will be held during December and January. Kids – sign up for the 40 Day Reading Challenge and take on challenges such as read a book with a one word title, draw a picture about what you read and read a book by a new author or illustrator.
SCHOOL HOLIDAY FUN The Clermont Library will be holding school holiday activities during the Summer school holidays. Board Games/Lego sessions will be held on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm to 3pm and craft activities will be hold on Thursday afternoons from 2pm to 3pm. Story Time sessions will continue to be held during the school holidays. Bookings for these sessions are essential.
