WATER CONSERVATION MATTERS AS DRY CONDITIONS CONTINUE Residents in the Isaac region are encouraged to make water conservation a part of their daily habits as Clermont is set for more restrictions this week.

restrictions active since September 10 as there is no water passing over the weir 100 metres upstream of the Carmila Creek bore, which supplies the local water treatment plant.

Clermont, St Lawrence and Carmila currently have restrictions in their communities due to a drop in water levels at their raw water source.

In neighbouring St Lawrence, level one water restrictions are still in place as the current storage in the St Lawrence Creek Weir, which supplies the local water treatment plant, has fallen more than 0.5 metres below the spillway level.

This measure comes as more than 90 per cent of the region is drought declared. Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said Clermont will join Carmila in level two water restrictions this Friday, October 5. “Current storage in Theresa Creek Dam, which supplies the local water treatment plant, is presently more than 1.25 metres below the spillway level,” Mayor Baker said. “This is the trigger for Level 2 water restrictions. “This means hand held hoses only, no watering on any day between 9am and 5pm and watering is permitted between 5am to 9am and 5pm to 9pm on watering days. “Automated irrigation systems can be used but for garden beds only, no grassed areas. “Mobile water tankers, unless used for firefighting, must apply for an exemption to use Council’s raw water or potable water standpipes to fill up their tankers. “No water is to be used for dust suppression. “We know how tough everyone is doing in the west and we ask everyone to adopt some water-saving habits.” Carmila on the Isaac coast has had level two water

Mayor Baker said all other Isaac region communities are encouraged to adhere to water conservation measures. “Conserving and maintaining water quality is especially important in Australia, the world’s driest inhabited continent,” she said. “We’ve got some really good water saving tips on our website, it’s a free service and it’s worth a look. “Conserving water especially in this sort of climate is everybody’s business.” As at September 19, 2018, 90.3 per cent of the Isaac Regional Council’s local government area was drought declared.
