ABORIGINAL ART AND ANCESTRY COMBINE TO CONNECT COMMUNITIES Lloyd Hornsby Gawura’s visit to the Isaac region during NAIDOC Week and the school holidays saw almost 200 children and adults participate in free art workshops. Mayor Anne Baker said local communities had wholeheartedly welcomed the 70-yearold Aboriginal artist back, and numbers at the workshops had been pleasing. “Lloyd has an instinctive ability to connect with both children and adults to inspire them to explore their inner creativity,” she said. “This is the third year Lloyd has conducted workshops in the region sharing his stories and knowledge about indigenous art and culture. “It was encouraging to see that a large number of people in our communities embraced the opportunity, once again, to attend these workshops with some beautiful artwork produced by participants.”

During the first week of the new school term, Lloyd also visited Coppabella State School, Nebo State School, Mistake Creek School, Kilcummin State School, Valkyrie State School, Carmila State School and St Lawrence State School. The free art workshops across the region were made possible thanks to a grant from the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF). The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Isaac Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

FUZZBOOK FROM THE ISA CONTRIBUTED BY SARGE Rodeo is coming up here, so I hope to see some Clermontians (not in the lock up though) driving around the town. Just don’t bring a caravan, we are up to our necks in them at the moment. The drivers all seem to think just park anywhere you want, do u-turns anywhere and never mind people honking the old horn at you, we are apparently just friendly up here and saying g’day. I love hearing about what the Clermont locals have been up to and the wife passes on all the well wishes from my competitor Facebook. Micky getting to 105 is tremendous and she probably will keep on going strong. Councillor Lyn Jones seems to be running around a lot and getting things done and it’s good to see for the old Mont to be getting a facelift. Sorry to hear of all the good people we have lost in the last year and our thoughts go out to everyone. On the home front Nicola is just finishing up her nursing degree at JCU Townsville, so hopefully she will get a start somewhere soon looking after patients and to say Kris and I are proud of her is an understatement.
Giulia is busy working at the Buffalo Club up here getting money together for the new year when she heads to UQ in Brisbane to start her University studies. Domenico is ploughing through grade 11, working at Hungry Jacks and is one of the lead roles in the school musical coming up in a couple of weeks’ time. He is looking to Uni as well to do radiology. Kris is a checkout chick at Coles (as she puts it) and loving it (some times). She has her little coffee group and they get together and talk about men I suppose, not allowed to go!! Anyway I hope to get back there some day for a visit and catch up. Thank you for all the good memories we came away with from Clermont. Funnily enough we have just gone through our police house being renovated here which took 10 years to happen down there. Did not like one bit of it though as it stressed everyone out. Hope everyone stays safe and remember to not drink too much in case you ruin someone else’s time (which happens a lot up here). Regards Sarge (Senior)
STUDENTS ON FUTURE FINDING TREK AT CAREERS EXPO
More than 800 school students will seize an insight into their next chapter as they search for a career in Moranbah next month. Staged at Moranbah State High School, the Education and Career Pathways Expo is set to unveil opportunities in mining, local government, childcare, education, defence, police and much more. Students from Clermont, Middlemount and Dysart will make the pilgrimage to join their Moranbah pupils at the August 9 expo. Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said there are many reasons for students to stay and embark on an exciting career in the region. “Our region has access to world-class export infrastructure with more than 58,862 square kilometres, from prime agricultural land to the mineral rich basins and a coastal strip that brings tourism opportunities,” Mayor Baker said. “Isaac region is home to 20,940 residents, although, an additional 10,580 resource sector workers travel here and are housed in temporary accommodation. “At any one time the full-time equivalent population in the Isaac region is estimated at 31,835. “Isaac’s family-friendly communities offer a safe and relaxed lifestyle, and include the modern mining towns of Moranbah, Middlemount and Dysart, to the historic communities of Nebo, Clermont and St Lawrence and small picturesque coastal villages and rural localities.”

Mayor Baker said the Gross Regional Product (GRP) of the Isaac region is estimated at $5.948 billion. “Per capita GRP, Isaac is nearly four times the Queensland average and per worker GRP is over 1.8 times that of Queensland. “The unemployment rate in the Isaac region is one of the lowest in Australia at 1.6 per cent. Mayor Baker said the Expo is vital to building Isaac’s future in all sectors of the region as the region looks towards maintaining a sustainable and efficiently working communities. Moranbah State High School principal Felicity Roberts said the expo is an excellent opportunity for students to see where they are able to contribute locally, regionally and globally. “Expos like this helps build communities, increase opportunities for our youth and allows local businesses to benefit from local activities,” Ms Roberts said. “It’s the perfect place to get all the information you need in one place to guide our region’s students to their next steps into study or full-time work. “There’s plenty to do, see and experience with stalls, displays, equipment and simulators on hand with plenty of information to collect.” The expo, proudly sponsored by Isaac Regional Council, will be held at Moranbah State High School, Mills Avenue from 10am to 3pm on Thursday, August 9.

POPULAR COMEDIAN STANDS UP TO HOST ISAAC GALA Comedian Terry Hansen will headline an impressive line-up of entertainment at next month’s Mayor’s Charity Ball in Moranbah. The stand-up comedian and entertainer, best known for his 15-year stint as the funnyman on Brisbane radio’s top-rating 97.3FM breakfast show, is the Master of Ceremonies for the Isaac region’s gala night of nights. Hansen said he was excited about taking to the stage to host the black-tie community event on Saturday, August 11. “Having spent a bit of time in Central Queensland and the Isaac working on cane farms, where I learned to drive tractors planting cane, I know how passionate the communities are about getting behind a great cause,” he said. “It’s going to be a great night under the stars in Moranbah’s Town Square raising money for the Isaac Regional Charity Fund in support of mental health initiatives.” It is an issue close to Hansen’s heart as founder of the Men’s Health Group DADBODS. “We gather each week to train and talk. The more we talk, the better we train,” he said Hansen will be joined by an array of local talent, including musical acts Bulletproof Duo and Mezzanine, who will entertain the audience throughout the night. Mayor Anne Baker said the Charity Ball was shaping up to be the biggest night in the event’s five-year history. “We’ve been working hard to take this year’s event to the next level and there will be a few surprises in store for guests,” she said. “Tickets are selling fast, so I wouldn’t be waiting til the last minute to grab a seat or a table as you may be disappointed, with only a couple of weeks until the big night. “It will truly be a night to remember, dancing and dining under the stars, but we are also raising money for an important and vital cause.” The stylish black tie affair will feature a three-course dinner, live music and entertainment, prizes, charity auction and much more.

SPOTLIGHT ON AUTHOR - OLIVER BOWDEN Oliver Bowden is the pen name of British writer, Anton Gill. Gill was born in America and moved to England as a young child. He worked as an actor, theatre director, television writer and producer before becoming a full-time professional writer. Gill has published more than 40 books and is best known for his Assassin’s Creed series.

RIP: A high intensity strength conditioning class using barbell and light weights. 45-1 hour in duration. Bring towel and water bottle. RIP EXPRESS is a 45 minute major muscle group workout. AXIS: Power to the core in 30 minutes. TRX SUSPENSION TRAINING: Every Suspension Training exercise builds true functional strength and improves flexibility, balance and core stability all at once. Intermediate sessions are higher intensity workouts as basics should be well ingrained in participants. THUMP: 1 hour boxing class. Boxing equipment is provided, inners must be worn and can be purchased for $5 from reception.

You will learn breathing exercises and positions that can help improve arthritic symptoms, insomnia, blood pressure, mood and aid with relaxation and flexibility. This class is suitable for pregnant women. Screening will be conducted prior to participation.

GUT AND BUTT BLAST: Is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane, simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. OPEN GYM: This is your opportunity to use the gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training. LET’S LIFT: This program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minutes whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.
PROGRAM METAPWR: MetaPWR is a fast moving circuit, using moves that need strength, speed and power. All MetaPWR workouts use the entire body,involving your upper and lower body and core muscles. Muscle is metabolically active tissue, so the more muscles you work the more calories you burn. The more calories you burn, the more productive your workouts will be and the faster you will lose fat. CIRCUIT TRAINING: This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/lowintensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness. METAFIT: This is a 30 minutes bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire.
