INTRODUCTION This is a compilation of work from semester 6 and semester 7 projects where as semester 6 has 3 assignments and e-portfolio while semester 7 projects have been divided into 4 phases and an extra E-portfolio for the completed works for the whole semester.

SEMESTER 6

ASSIGNMENT 1 The purpose of Assignment 1 is to focus on the development of a particular position towards a chosen interest in context of the site. Assignment 1 implores the student to select one central theme for their projects which are: Imaginings (unbuilt, speculative), Tectonics (semiotics, structuralism), Collage (deconstruction), Poetics (phenomenology, experiential) and Liminality (transitions, fluidity, conscious/unconscious, the in between).

1 IMAGININGS The Unbuilt and The Speculative

THEMES

A drawing or series of drawings that examines ideas in the ways of its own world. It does not need to be justified or legitimated by any further action. Such drawings cannot be directly translated into buildings, nor are they intended to. They are not prescriptive and illustrative of some next step, but formulations of principles, grammar, methods of thinking and working.

It creates relationships between abstract, tectonic space and form and human experiences and conditions that comprise our existence.

2 TECTONICS The Art of Construction

THEMES

“Flatness of surfaces and materials, uniformity of illumination, as well as the elimination of micro-climatic differences, further reinforce the tiresome and soporific uniformity of experience. All in all, the tendency of technological culture to standardize environmental conditions and make the environment entirely predictable is causing a serious sensory impoverishment. Our buildings have lost their opacity and depth, sensory invitation and discovery, mystery and shadow”.

3 COLLAGE The Art of Deconstruction

THEMES

Break/suppress the dominant narrative to reveal an alternative reading. It is not simply the technique of an architect who knows how to deconstruct what has been constructed but a probing which touches upon the technique itself, upon the authority of the architectural metaphor and thereby constitutes its own architectural rhetoric. “Could architecture be freed from the prevalence of the principles of classical aesthetics?

Could architecture abandon functionalism?”

4 LIMINALITY The In-Between

THEMES

Imagine driving to the airport at 3 a.m. with a light mist in the air. The feelings and emotions given off by a liminal space make it feel like an altered reality. Other places may feel like a liminal space regardless of the time of day or year you visit them. Whenever we are at a place during a time that’s not usual for that space, it can feel unsettling. You’ll notice that, in certain spaces under certain circumstances, you’ll experience a feeling of things being slightly off. An altered reality, if you will.

When you’re interacting with a liminal space, you’re quite literally standing on the threshold between two realities.

5 POETICS Emotive

THEMES

“The way architecture is able to“touch” its occupants on deeper emotional or spiritual levels. It could also be the way architecture can convey beauty together with meaning that leaves one feeling more fulfilled”(Mario Lorena). Meaning of spaces which preoccupy poetry, intimate spaces such as a house, a drawer, a night dresser and spaces of wide expansion such as vistas and woods.

ASSIGNMENT 2 The application theory towards experimental journey is being developed through the drawings seen through lens of cinematic composition. Its being developed in different angles and possible outcomes which is being reflected in the mannerism of the materiality, scale and design expressions.

ASSIGNMENT 3 This was the final alchemy of all the development from phase 1 and phase 2 that seeks to converge spatial principles, embodying the theory through explanatory design drawings. The drawings reflect the themes which I have chose from phase 1 with the design ranging from multitude expressions which is inspired through the use of biophilic design.

E-PORTFOLIO Required to prepare a digital E-portfolio containing all my works from assignment 1 to assignment 3 and convey it in ISSUU app which will be used as a self guide tour of my work towards viewers for the whole semester.

SEMESTER 7

PHASE 1 In phase 1 it was all about the narrative and activities approval since it’s a continuation of the work from semester 6. The lectures told us to update our works or if there any changes to be made either to the site or the activities, this was the time for it. So for my project I made some few changes on the activities added more that corresponded with my design idea which was implemented with biophilic design. Also for my building I changed it to the Paramit factory which is located in Penang.

Before venturing into the phase of the final exhibition preparations, this involves finishing up the works in design blocks which ensures the work is completed according to a specific requirement.

NARRATIVE

PHASE 2 ◦

Its all about the completion of the design development phase, where as with phase 1 completed with its narrative comes phase 2 with more about the programming of the space where comes in on how the spaces actually operate.

PROGRAMMING

PHASE 3 Phase 3 includes different rendered floor plans with both long section and short section of the space, bespoke on the main highlight of the building design which focus on the biophilic design.

Also different perspectives of the building and an exploded axonometric.

PHASE 4 Towards phase 4 we had to create a virtual exhibition where all students we were split into different categories. In preparation for our final AIAD virtual exhibition, we were divided into different groups (each handling different tasks). There were 5 groups in total (Virtual Production, Website, Social media, Event & Graphics). I was among the Virtual Production team in which my task allocated was collecting and creating memories vids for out fellow classmates
