GUEST ARTIST

From the stages of Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center to numerous churches and conferences around the country, acclaimed vocalist, songwriter, and author Charles Billingsley is still doing what he absolutely loves… creating and performing timeless classics as well as new music before thousands of fans around the world. His effervescent and energetic personality comes through in every singing and speaking event.

Launching his career three decades ago as a lead vocalist for GRAMMY–nominated NewSong, Charles has since performed as a solo artist for 30 years in more than 3300 concerts, released 26 albums, and garnered seven #1 radio hits with his signature style and incredible vocal range.

He recently produced a must-listen-to collection of American standards and classics entitled “The Shadow of Your Smile.” And just a few months ago, he went back in the studio with some of the country’s best musicians for a special Gospel album called “Stories and Songs”. He is also the author of three devotional books: Lord Use Me, Words on Worship, and More Words on Worship.

Charles and his wife, Shae, have been married for more than 30 years and they have two sons and a daughter-in-law, Caleb and Cooper and Emily. When Charles is not singing and speaking in events around the country, he serves as the teaching pastor at Thomas Road Baptist Church as well as an adjunct professor at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA

GUEST ARTIST

The Irving Chorale has been making beautiful music in Irving for over 36 years. For almost half of that time, they have been under the artistic direction of Harry Wooten, whose reputation in choral performance has drawn invitations to sing both locally and around the world.

The auditioned chorus of over 60 volunteer singers has performed with the Irving Symphony Orchestra on multiple occasions, including last year’s “Home for the Holidays.” Irving Chorale has also been privileged to sing under the baton of Maestro Guzmán in other collaborations, including Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2.

Part of Irving Chorale’s mission is to develop unique collaborations with other arts groups providing multi-cultural and multi-generational experiences for both performers and audiences alike. A prime example is their recent concert with Flutissimo!, a flute choir comprised of over 40 flautists ranging in age from 18 to 80.

Irving Chorale invites everyone to join them for the final concerts of their 24-25 Season:

• Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 4:00 pm

“Bach and the Future” with the Lewisville Civic Chorale

Plymouth Park United Methodist Church in Irving

• Saturday, May 3,2025, at 7:00 pm

“Bistro ’25: Rat Pack Era Remembered”

Woodhaven Presbyterian Church in Irving

Harry Wooten, a native of Arkansas, holds degrees from William Jewell College, Vienna International Music Conservatory, and Southwestern Baptist

Theological Seminary. He has been a guest soloist, conductor, and presenter for numerous workshops, as well as directing the Irving Chorale at numerous European concerts and festivals. Mr. Wooten is the Minister of Music at Royal Lane Baptist Church in Dallas.

GUEST CONDUCTOR

Praised for his “sensitive and nuanced” musicianship and for delivering performances “with admirable sweep and tension,” Filippo Ciabatti is a dynamic and versatile conductor who enjoys a multifaceted career.

A native of Florence, Italy, Mr. Ciabatti has appeared as a guest conductor with numerous orchestras in Europe and throughout the eastern, southern, and central regions of the United States, along with Columbia in South America. Texas hosted him previously with the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra and, over the summer, traveled to the West Coast when conducting the Festival Orchestra in Napa (CA) as the recipient of the 2024 Joel Revzen Conducting Prize.

Mr. Ciabatti has collaborated with internationally renowned artists including Ray Chen, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Time for Three, David Kim, Nathan Gunn, Karen Walwyn, and Gabriel Cabezas. An advocate for contemporary music, he commissioned a cello concerto by composer Noah Luna that was aired on NPR’s “From the Top." He also encourages collaboration across genres. He premiered a secular oratorio by jazz composer Taylor Ho Bynum, and hosted cellist and MacArthur Fellow Tomeka Reid for a performance of her cello concerto.

As Assistant Conductor of Boston Baroque, Filippo is the first conductor to be named to that position in its 50-year history. He is the founding Artistic Director of Upper Valley Baroque, a professional period orchestra and choral ensemble, which, after only three seasons, has already received critical acclaim and regularly performs to sold-out houses.

At ease on the opera stage, Mr. Ciabatti was recently named Music Director of the Opera Company of Middlebury, where he made his debut with a production of Fidelio. While serving as a guest conductor at Opera North (NH) and the Lyric Theatre (U of IL), he conducted many full operatic productions, including Puccini’s Tosca and Madama Butterfly, Britten’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Mozart’s Don Giovanni starring and directed by Nathan Gunn.

Serving as the Director of Orchestral and Choral Programs at the Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth College, he is invested in working on innovative and cross-disciplinary projects that provide exceptional opportunities for both students and audiences. Collaborations include projects with Martha Graham Dance Company and Associazione Figli d’Arte Cuticchio, the award-winning company that sustains the historic Sicilian art of “opera dei pupi.” In 2018, he led a Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra tour to Italy, performing Mahler’s 5th Symphony at prominent venues and festivals in collaboration with the Orchestra Toscana dei Conservatori.

Mr. Ciabatti holds advanced degrees in piano, choral conducting, and orchestral conducting from Italy and the United States. In 2018, he served as a Conducting Fellow at the Aurora Music Festival (Sweden) under the direction of Jukka-Pekka Saraste. He is the winner of the 2021 American Prize in Conducting (college/university division).

Maestro Héctor Guzmán is regarded as one of the most respected and admired conductors in this country and abroad. He is Music Director of the Irving, Plano, San Angelo, and Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestras in the United States and Conductor Emeritus of the Jalisco Philharmonic in Mexico.

In addition, he has been guest conductor of an array of prestigious ensembles: Mexico: National Symphony, Mexico City Philharmonic, UNAM Philharmonic, Xalapa Symphony, Bellas Artes Chamber Orchestra, Vivaldi Orchestra of Mexico City, and State of Mexico Symphony. United States: Dallas Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Wheeling Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, Tulsa Philharmonic, the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra, and the Chicago Sinfonietta. Dominican Republic: National Symphony. Czech Republic: Collegium Orchestra of Prague. Poland: Rszezow Philharmonic. Japan: Japan Philharmonic. South Korea: Masan Philharmonic and Gangsam Symphony. Italy: Amadeus Orchestra, Sinfonia Venetto, Milano Classica Orchestra, Bari Symphony, San Remo Symphony, and Pomeriggi Musicale Orchestra of Milan.

Spain: Sinfónica de Murcia, Joven Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, and Excelentia Orchestra. Germany: Herzer Orchester, Panamá: National Symphony, Guatemala, Festival Orchestra, among many others. In Sept. 2022, Maestro Guzmán was named “Artist in residence” of the prestigious “Madrid Soloists Orchestra” in Spain.

In addition to a spectacular career as a conductor, he enjoys international success as a concert organist, performing in venues such as the Meyerson Symphony Hall in Dallas, the Spivey Hall Distinguished Artist Series in Atlanta, the Olivet Nazarene recital series in Illinois, the cathedrals of Morelia, Guadalajara (Mexico) and Chartres (France), and the International Music Festivals in Toledo, Spain, and Zamora, Mexico. Maestro Guzmán holds degrees from the Conservatory of Music in Mexico City, the University of North Texas (BM), and Southern Methodist University (MM). His teachers include his mentor Anshel Brusilow, former concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra and former music director of the Dallas Symphony, and internationally renowned conductors Helmuth Rilling (University of Oregon) and Carlo Maria Giulini (Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Italy). He was also a protégé of the late Maestro Eduardo Mata, music director of the Dallas Symphony. In his native Mexico, Héctor Guzmán achieved an impressive reputation as an organist, under Prof. Victor Urban, by taking first prize in the “Chamber Soloists” and the “Manuel M. Ponce” national organ competitions. In the U.S, while a student of world-famous master teachers Dr. Robert Anderson and Alfred Mouledous, he earned further distinction by winning solo competitions at SMU and the University of North Texas. In addition, Maestro was the first Latin American ever chosen as a finalist in the “Grand Prix de Chartres,” the world’s most prestigious international organ competition celebrated in France. In addition, he received the “Mozart Medal,” Mexico’s highest musical honor, presented by the Embassy of Austria, the “Distinguished Mexican Award” from the government of Mexico, and is recognized as the 2022 North Texas Performing Arts “Distinguished Performing Artist Award” for his contributions to music worldwide.
