UNVEILED

NEWS + NOTES FOR THE NEARLYWED

Inspired by her Hmong culture, photographer Cindy Nguyen (@cindynguyen. photo) created this stunning styled shoot with White Barn Florals (@whitebarndecor). The couple is dressed in traditional Hmong wedding attire and, in lieu of a traditional bouquet, the bride carries a basket filled with wildflowers. The floral basket pays homage to a Hmong wedding tradition in which the best man carries a bamboo basket containing items such as boiled whole chicken, oil, salt, rice, a carton of cigarettes, a knife and a blanket. Each item has a symbolic meaning: The cooking ingredients and knife are for prepping a meal along the way to the bride’s house; the cigarettes, to begin the discussion of a dowry; and the blanket is for the bride and groom when they sleep at the bride’s house. Finding unique ways to incorporate traditions into your wedding or engagement photos is a beautiful way to bring a personal touch and meaningful cultural elements to your day.

BACKYARD BEAUTY

Alyssa Ayala of Pacific Engagements crafted a stunning styled shoot in a backyard to show clients how elegance and class can fit into any space. Playing off the surrounding landscape, the color palette perfectly complemented the natural beauty, while bold elements, such as vibrant florals and patterned linens, brought unique touches to the design. Inspired by crackle-glazed stoneware plates, the design created a chic ambiance that blended into the backyard setting. Floral arrangements focused on surrounding flora and foliage, with blossoms arranged to appear as if they were growing up from the ground and creating a path that led to a stunning freestanding floral arch. Floral watercolor linens drew hues of canary, peach, guava and yellow to the forefront of the scheme, embodying a springtime palette. Introducing an interactive element, watercolorist Paige Lindsey was present to create paintings of the setting. Ayala encourages couples not to be afraid of bold colors and patterns for their backyard weddings and to pull different elements together to allow for a truly personalized experience. Ayala says, “All design and color choices were derived from the surrounding landscaping and chosen with the purpose of elevating the everyday private residence.” —Emily Sweet

BRIDE IDEAS

LIGHT THE WAY

An abundance of candlelight set the scene for romance in this elegant design by Ohana Events at The Greenhouse at Almquist, a hidden gem on Queen Anne. “Our goal was to show diversity, inclusion and fresh décor concepts while remaining elegant and luxurious,” says Ohana’s Rachel Katchen. The glass-enclosed space is complemented by a neutral palette of white, ivory and black, with a touch of moss green to add softness. The scene stealer is the unique candle bridge spanning the reception table, which makes a big impact. “This staple piece is bound to pick up as a trend,” says Katchen. “It does not block your guests’ view across the table, it gives height to the tall glass ceilings, and when the sun sets, the candles give a romantic warm glow right above the line of sight.” Katchen brought in real-life couple Jocelyn and Austin Doffner to enhance the scene and to demonstrate that there are no boundaries when it comes to love. Says Katchen, “We hope this project inspires couples to embrace what uniqueness makes them them .”

IT’S EASY BEING GREEN

Seattle experts share tips for an eco-friendly, sustainable wedding.

Planning for your perfect wedding is hard, and even more so when trying to keep your ecological footprint in mind. Luckily for us, we know luxury does not need to come at the expense of environmentally ethical choices. Eco-friendliness is about making conscious decisions to minimize the overall impact on the planet. We asked four of Seattle’s wedding experts how we can help our local communities, and most of all, our beautiful Earth, stay green. From giving flowers a second life to minimizing waste, here are some surefire ways to have your dream green wedding.

ON THE BIG DAY

Tie the knot in the great outdoors at a venue that is LEED Gold certified and focused on celebrating nature through sustainable practices. “From al fresco dining to guided hikes, to lawn games on our meadows, the stunning and varied natural environment of the campus is a crucial part of the magic and wonder,” says Hanna Hupp, communications manager at IslandWood. The secret behind all of these amenities are the sustainable processes the venue utilizes, such as collecting roof rainwater, harvesting wood from the meadows for exterior siding and interior trim throughout campus, and using salvaged wood for wood flooring. More than 50% of the wood used throughout buildings is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified. Buildings are left untreated to reduce the off-gassing of volatile organic compounds, and the campus is proud to include an “on-site wastewater treatment ‘living machine,’ reducing water consumption” in its low-flush toilets.

GROUP TRANSPORT

Kristina Embree of Harlow Events encourages all her clients to set up a carpool system for their big day. “This is a fun way to have all parties traveling together while keeping the excitement going, but it also lowers gas emissions. We want to be able to create a happy environment while creating a clean one!”

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

“Not only can they use reusable products, such as dishes and linens,

but they can also have a trash, recycle and compost bin. Composting leftover food and florals from the wedding day can go a long way,” notes Embree. “We can all do our share so no trash is left to contribute to pollution or be consumed by animals on our beautiful Earth.” Embree also uses leftover flowers for the send-off toss—a perfect way to ensure all items have a role in the wedding day.

GO FOAM FREE

Camas Designs, a floral design company owned by Erin Shackelford, is located on San Juan Island, surrounded by the Salish Sea. The business has seen “firsthand the impact humans have on the ecosystem all around us,” says Shackelford. As a result, it has successfully eliminated the use of any floral foam this year. “We found alternatives to foam even on record-setting heat-wave days. There are so many amazing resources out there for florists that want to reduce their use of foam, and I encourage people speaking to florists to ask about their practices and how they reduce, reuse and recycle,” Shackelford remarks.

Opting for reusable materials is one of the methods that From the Ground Up Floral’s Gina Thresher says is a key to sustainability. For example, floral suppliers Agra Wool and Oasis have new wool- and

ISLANDWOOD

fiber-based products that can be used in place of green foam. “Creating archways and installations using chicken wire and eco-wraps are also great ways to leave a small footprint.”

GO LOCAL

“Shopping the Seattle wholesale growers market and supporting farmers who grow beautiful products is by far a huge win in my book,” says Thresher. “It really feels good to get top-quality blooms and create a relationship with a client by providing items I grew, or just one step further, that a farmer locally grew.”

Look for catering companies that source local ingredients or grow their own. Says IslandWood’s Hupp, “Wherever possible, our kitchen team sources sustainable, local and seasonal ingredients for the menus we create. This often includes ingredients fresh from our on-campus garden, which is in turn nurtured by our robust composting system.”

FOR THE COMMUNITY

Camas Designs encourages giving back to the community. After every event, its staff deconstructs the centerpieces to create new arrangements. “These bundles are distributed locally to our retirement homes, given as random gifts to our community, and continue to bring smiles to those who receive them,” explains Shackelford.

Venues also can play an impactful role in society. IslandWood, which is also an environmental education nonprofit, offers an education program that teaches students environmental stewardship, a venture that is made possible in part by the revenue generated from hosting weddings. “The revenue generated helps to provide scholarships and equitable access to IslandWood’s environmental education programs for students and teachers throughout the region,” says Hupp.

GREEN SCENES

Explore 10 beautiful venues that place an emphasis on protecting the environment.

SEATTLE IS KNOWN AS THE EMERALD CITY, so it’s only fitting that it and the surrounding region offer ample options for green venues. And because the venue sets the tone for the entire wedding, why not make an eco-friendly statement? From sustainable catering options to reimagined industrial spaces, venues are getting creative with how they make a positive impact on the environment (going well beyond LED light bulbs!).

first LEED-certified hotels in Seattle, the building features a green roof, which lowers its carbon footprint, as well as a rooftop garden. The Hyatt at Olive 8 is all about embracing environmentalism without sacrificing luxury. Before or after your big day, indulge in spa treatments at Elaia Spa, where all products used are locally sourced. You can also work with the hotel’s chefs to create a custom farm-to-table menu for your guests to enjoy in the beautiful ballroom.

2. The historic LIME KILN LIGHTHOUSE on San Juan Island is operated by the Friends of Lime Kiln Society, which was founded to keep programs at Lime Kiln Point State Park going after budget cuts reduced the number of park staff. Now, the society, in collaboration with the Washington State Parks Foundation, has been able to keep the majestic lighthouse open and operating, and providing a unique setting for saying “I do.”

Among the park’s key functions are promoting the protection of Southern Resident killer whales and educating the public about ecosystem science while providing an unmatched opportunity to get up close and personal with nature and the whales themselves. The storied lighthouse just celebrated its centennial, so you can feel good about choosing

it as your venue, knowing that all revenue generated from your wedding will go straight back into preserving the lighthouse.

3. ISLANDWOOD is a nonprofit environmental education organization committed to paving the way for a greener future. Located on a 250-acre campus on Bainbridge Island, IslandWood provides a stunning Pacific Northwest backdrop for weddings while simultaneously giving couples the opportunity to support environmental justice efforts. For your celebration, choose from forested trails, a pond, meadow, garden, suspension bridge and tree houses; these settings also serve as unforgettable backdrops for photos that will last a lifetime. IslandWood has on-site planners to ensure everything goes smoothly. Among them is chef Jim White, who can create a personalized family-style menu for the big day.

4. PEBBLE COVE FARM is a 4-acre farm on Orcas Island that includes an inn on a private beach. The sustainable farm offers a “Take Over the Farm” package, allowing wedding parties and others attending the celebration to be the only guests on the property for a weekend. The farm is dedicated to sustainability practices. Guests can pick produce from the organic garden and spend time with rescued farm animals in between wedding activities. All supplies on the farm are bought in bulk to reduce waste and are free of pesticides and chemicals. As part of a commitment to nurturing the health of both the environment and visitors, all food served on the farm is vegan (and delicious).

5. Initially, a sewage treatment plant may not seem like the most romantic of locales, but BRIGHTWATER TREATMENT PLANT will have you reconsidering that notion. The Woodinville venue has reimagined what a waste treatment plant can be by incorporating gardens, hiking trails, an education center, an event hall (Brightwater Center), and other amenities into its property. The choice to make the plant a destination was strategic: With recycled wastewater being used more frequently as a sustainable alternative to existing water supplies, there is a need to educate the public on what that means and bring such work into the spotlight. With its indoor and outdoor event spaces as well as a commercial kitchen and top-notch AV

equipment, Brightwater eagerly welcomes couples to come and tie the knot.

6. The site of a former coal gasification plant, GAS WORKS PARK is situated along Lake Union and offers stunning views of the Seattle skyline. Instead of being demolished when it was acquired by the city of Seattle in 1965, the plant was reimagined, with the boiler house being converted into a picnic shelter, and the exhaustercompressor building becoming a spacious barn. Now, instead of being the site of a toxic-wastegenerating plant, the park is a model for how to embrace defunct industrial structures rather than destroying them. Chief among the innovations in the park’s design is its use of bioremediation, a technology that activates soil microbes to clean the land itself and prevents contaminated soil from having to be replaced. The structures themselves have been deep-cleaned to make them safe for guests to come into close contact with; they also present striking, rust-colored industrial backgrounds to any celebration.

7. Food lovers can rejoice at the OLYMPIC ROOFTOP PAVILION STONEBURNER, where its sustainability efforts are most apparent at the dinner table. Located on the rooftop of Hotel Ballard, the venue provides an elegant atmosphere for couples with epicurean tastes. Beneath vaulted ceilings and a 20-foot-high skylight, guests can enjoy seasonally curated menus that feature local bounties. Chef Jason Stoneburner collects fresh vegetables from the

Ballard Farmers Market. Aspiring (or current) oenophiles can also indulge in customized wine dinners with specially selected pairings to enjoy as the city lights sparkle from below.

8. The BEL L HARBOR INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTER has a Green Star certification from the International Association of Conference Centres, which recognizes the strides the venue has taken to protect its surrounding environment. With a 70% recycling rate—compared to the city’s 50%—and 90% of the cleaning products used being certified as green, the center is an easy venue choice based on environmental factors alone. Adding to its appeal, it also has a waterfront setting that makes it a no-brainer from an aesthetic standpoint. Panoramic views of the Olympic Mountains, Mount Rainier, Elliott Bay and the Seattle skyline provide stunning backdrops to the indoor and outdoor reception and ceremony sites. Adjacent to the conference center is the Edgewater Hotel, where guests can stay before and after the celebration and enjoy the only overwater hotel in Seattle.

9. The SEATTLE AQUARIUM wants to create a space to start conversations surrounding environmental burdens and benefits, especially as they relate to marine environments. Committed to following in the footsteps of the Coast Salish peoples, who have stewarded the waters for generations, the aquarium has dedicated itself to partnering with Indigenous communities to

CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN RESORT

jointly conserve the ocean and marine life. The aquarium itself serves as a unique backdrop to a wedding, with options to have ceremonies and receptions amongst the sea life—there’s even a chance to feed the sea otters—or outdoors in the waterside pavilion. And the on-site planners and coordinators are there to ensure that every detail is executed to perfection, from plated or buffet dinners to details like sea glass table décor.

10. Every day is Earth Day at CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN RESORT. You can say “I do” at 6,782 feet above sea level and choose from a variety of ceremony and venue spots that all take advantage of the jaw-dropping vistas. The environment means everything to the ski resort, which offers both an inimitable backdrop as well as the foundation for outdoor adventures. The resort has done away with single-use plastics in favor of compostable alternatives, and more than 80% of its waste is recyclable or compostable. Crystal Mountain was also the first ski resort in North America to use diesel and electric snow groomers. Knowing this, as you look out at Mount Rainer while exchanging vows, you can feel confident that your wedding venue is making a serious effort to preserve the beautiful landscape.

One-of-a-kind Celebrations

Set amongst towering evergreens, gardens, ponds and Europeaninspired buildings, Bella Luna Farms offers a true farm-to-table experience. Walk the grounds, sip a cocktail in the Grape House adorned with overhead grape vines and enjoy farm-fresh seasonally-inspired fare grown on the grounds, plus artisan cheeses and pizzas from the wood-burning oven. From casual to formal, rustic to refined, our design team will create an individual atmosphere for your celebration. We would love to hear from you! 360.863.6502 Bellalunafarms.com

IT’S CHIC TO BE GREEN

SHARE YOUR LOVE WITH MOTHER EARTH AND TIE THE KNOT IN A SUSTAINABLE AND STYLISH BRIDAL GOWN .

Australian bridal design company GRACE LOVES LACE spent two years engineering fabric for the debut of its first sustainably and ethically handmade gown, created from 96% recycled materials. In an effort to avoid the use of new materials, founder and creative director Megan Ziems sought repurposed resources that would reduce landfill, ocean waste and CO2 emissions to create the “Lumi” gown. “Repurposing what’s traditionally seen as waste product to create a valued heirloom—to me that’s revolutionary,” explains Ziems.

The “Lumi” gown features lace paneling and a tulle overlay, with an accompanying veil. Dress $2,300, veil $410, at the Grace Loves Lace (@graceloveslace) showroom in Seattle.

LEANNE MARSHALL’s bridal gowns are created using sustainable textiles and natural fibers sourced from reputable mills, all of which meet environmental and working standard regulations. To avoid overproduction, surplus inventory and unnecessary waste, each bridal gown is custom produced to order by seamstresses who are paid fair wages. Each and every gown is constructed using natural and biodegradable fibers that can decompose in as little as 10 months. But don’t worry, a properly stored gown will not decompose in such a short period of time.

The “Simona” silk gown is a standout with its detachable and convertible organza flutter sleeves and a full A-line skirt. Shown in ivory, it’s also available in periwinkle/blush and sunset orange. Prices begin at $3,550, from Leanne Marshall (@leannemarshallofficial).

Give back with your dress budget by shopping at BRIDES FOR A CAUSE, a nonprofit organization that collects and resells wedding dresses for charity. The beautifully appointed boutiques in Seattle, Tacoma, Portland and Sacramento are treasure troves of wedding gowns, with a wide selection of current collections donated from stores such as Kleinfeld Bridal in New York, so you can be assured the dresses are just as dreamy as any other. Best of all, the price tag of the gown supports a variety of nonprofit organizations that support women, such as the Loveland Foundation, which supports communities of color with a focus on women and girls; Dress for Success; Girls Inc.; and others. It’s a beautiful way to share love on your wedding day in a way that can help change someone’s life. “Our goal

at Brides for a Cause is to help change the mindset of what shopping at a charity bridal store looks and feels like. Most of our dresses are designer sample gowns donated by bridal stores across the country, so our brides are able to find unique pieces that aren’t normally found in their area, while being sustainable and charitable with their purchase,” says Erin Scharf, founder of Brides for a Cause.

(Above) Sarah Seven’s “Orleans” silk crepe gown epitomizes sleek simplicity with its clean lines and open back. $800 (retail, $2,500). REFORMATION is a feel-good fashion company with a stunning line of bridal gowns. The brand creates its fashionable designs using low-impact materials, rescued “deadstock” fabrics and repurposed vintage clothing. Most importantly, Reformation puts the people behind the clothes first, ensuring that they have a safe, healthy and fair working environment. The majority of Reformation’s pieces are constructed in its Los Angeles factory, in addition to working with sustainable factories around the world. Complete the look by checking out Reformation’s bridal shoe collection, which includes gorgeous heeled sandals and mules.

GOLDEN HOUR

INSPIRED BY THE SHADES OF SPRING, BIXBY + PINE SETS THE SCENE FOR ROMANCE AT THE LODGES ON VASHON BY BALANCING TEXTURE, BRIGHT COLORS AND NEUTRAL SHADES.

Design by Bixby + Pine

Photography by Gina Paulson Text by Lara M. Burnap

Our BIGGEST GOAL when it comes to designing for our couples is to CREATE a wedding that feels AUTHENTIC to the couple, which is why our weddings NEVER look the same.

spring/summer 2022 seattlebridemag.com | 59
Pops of orange, pink and deep indigo pay homage to springtime in the Pacific Northwest. Bixby + Pine invites romance by introducing neutral tones amid bright splashes of florals in sunset shades both on the tabletop and in the bouquet. –Bixby + Pine

A charmingly eclectic scene is created with textured plates, mismatched runners, modern gold flatware, dainty glassware and deckle-edged menus, with complementary place cards as the finishing touch. The florals balance brightness and neutral shades with a curated blend of roses, each with a unique color and shape. Dried elements and miniature palm spears add a textural flourish.

TEXTURE is your best friend when designing with the GOAL of ELEVATION and RICHNESS.
– Bixby + Pine

Springtime brings the PACIFIC NORTHWEST lots of blooming greens and beautiful WILD FLOWERS full of COLOR, so we wanted to capitalize on that color in a wedding friendly way, as to not overwhelm the eye with a slew of RAINBOW blooms.

A touch of baby’s breath among the orange roses adds a delicate moment to Vashon’s outdoor fireplace. Restrained use of indigo makes an impact as seen in the escort cards and invitation suite.

MODERN ELEMENTS AND VINTAGE DETAILS INSPIRE A TIMELESS DESIGN SET IN THE 1900S-ERA HALL AT FAUNTLEROY

Statement table décor centers around birch branch “frogs” that hold dried floral elements. Adorn Event Rentals’ place settings of clear glass and gold play off the neutral color scheme, while a delicate sprig of dried orchard grass seamlessly weaves into the garden theme.

A unique circular installation of birch branches, dried eucalyptus, orchard grass and Leucadendron doubles as an altar and a backdrop to the couple’s sweetheart table.

The SweetSide applied various techniques on wafer paper to create this ethereal monochromatic twotier miniature cake. Branches of dried florals bring softness to the clean-edged silhouette.

FAHREN AND ERNEST

(Re) Married and celebrated: LAIRMONT MANOR, BELLINGHAM

Date: MARCH 20, 2021

Twenty-six years after marrying, Fahren and Ernest proved that their love knows no bounds. The two were originally wed when they were 19 years old. And while that wedding all those years ago marked the beginning of a love that will last a lifetime, the couple had always wanted to have the celebration of their dreams. With their children and grandchildren looking on, Fahren and Earnest said “I do” once again, this time at the Lairmont Manor in Bellingham. The couple chose Lairmont because of its resemblance to the brick buildings on the University of Washington campus, where they first met. Working with Oh Miss Chic, Fahren and Ernest planned a beautiful early-spring affair. Fahren made up for those first understated nuptials by wearing four stunning gowns throughout the day. She wore two white dresses, one featuring a sheer floral bodice, and the other with a deep V-neck. Her black ensembles stole the show. In a Dawson & Deveraux ostrich-feathered gown, Fahren looked straight off the red carpet, and was off-the-charts chic in a long-sleeved sheer tulle number. Ernest was equally stylish in a light burgundy suit and black bow tie from The Black Tux. Honey Crumb Cake Studio created the centerpiece confection, which featured stunning flowers and a vintage, aged finish in ivory with pink and purple accents. Crave Catering created a menu featuring a mixed green salad with citrus vinaigrette, and lamb tagine with butternut squash and Israeli couscous.

BECCA & PATRICK

Married: FAR AND AWAY CABIN, LEAVENWORTH Celebrated: OMNIA MOUNTAIN LODGE

Date: FEBRUARY 20, 2021

A winter wonderland proved the perfect setting for Becca Taylor and Patrick Cassleman’s sophisticated wedding, which paid homage to the couple’s first trip together to Iceland. Taking place at Leavenworth’s Far and Away Cabin, the ceremony brought a new family together as Becca and Patrick, alongside Patrick’s two children, tied the knot against a breathtaking Washington backdrop. A snow storm the day before the wedding left eight feet of snow on the ground and the groom, groom’s brothers and bride’s father, carved a snow aisle leading to the ceremony. The two exchanged vows in front of an arch enveloped in bold sunset-hued florals, which set a stunning contrast against the muted colors of their surroundings. The couple wholeheartedly embraced their ethereal winter landscape, with Becca’s entire bridal party adorned in snow boots, Becca wrapped in a chic bridal coat from Celtic & Co., and guests warmed by steaming cups from a hot chocolate station. Among the Nordic traditions featured was a ceremonial bonfire; in addition, Nordic flavors were highlighted on the six-course menu at the couple’s rustic yet modern reception, which took place at Omnia Mountain Lodge. For favors, guests received custom-designed ceramic mugs featuring puffins, chosen by the couple as a symbol of their love. Despite the cold wintry weather, Becca and Patrick infused warmth and love into their special day.

VICTORIA & DAN

Married and celebrated: SODO PARK, SEATTLE

Date: MAY 30, 2021

For this celebration, vibrancy was the name of the game. Bright, beautiful blooms and décor accompanied by bold attire brought a distinct liveliness to Victoria Lyon and Dan Montgomery’s wedding at Sodo Park. The couple met while skiing and reconnected a few years later when they found themselves both living in Seattle. Dan’s proposal took place during Thanksgiving dinner with his family while Victoria’s parents witnessed the moment via video chat. For the couple, prioritizing safety was essential for their wedding. Their event used a color-coded system of wristbands that allowed guests to display their level of comfort with social distancing, and a robust virtual experience was created for those guests who were unable to attend in person. The entire event was packed with laughter and love, with meaningful traditions like the Jewish hora dance incorporated into the day. For the ceremony, Victoria and Dan exchanged their vows beneath a stunning arch decorated with blooms in a range of brilliant colors, from sunshine yellow to the deepest of blues. The blooms in Victoria’s sophisticated bouquet were just as colorful, a resplendent rainbow of hues. Dan’s mauve suit contributed another pop of color to the ceremony and perfectly complemented Victoria’s chic A-line gown with its lace detailing. Near the end of the reception, Zumba instructor Victoria led the entire group in a dance that culminated into the pound-stick send-off, with guests playing a beat as Victoria and Dan departed on their new journey together.

KUMIKO & TAUSIF

Married and celebrated: MELROSE MARKET STUDIOS

Date: JUNE 13, 2021

After many minor and major life changes, and a pandemic in between, Kumiko Matter and Tausif Islam finally tied the knot at Melrose Market Studios. The couple worked with their event planner, Alice Hanh, for two years planning, replanning, and then planning some more. The result was a gorgeously styled, multicultural wedding that mixed aspects of Kumiko’s Japanese and Tausif’s Bangladeshi backgrounds. Ikebana-style flower arrangements created a beautiful contrast to the pink and orange color scheme selected as an homage to the reds, pinks and oranges often used in Bangladeshi décor and bridal attire. Thoughtful details that represent the couple included origami paper crane seating cards that were folded by Kumiko and her friends, as well as influences from their current home, Hawaii, in the form of Hawaiian cookie favors and wedding party outfits. Lastly, a nod was given to Seattle, Kumiko’s hometown and where the two first met, in the form of Herkimer Coffee favors. The one object that distilled the couple’s life was the custom cookie cake topper, which included their cat, Sophie, in a Bangladeshi sari, and their dog, Ichiro, in a Japanese karakusa-patterned scarf, surrounded by Hawaiian flowers—a work created by the bride’s favorite Washington-based cookie baker.

KERRY & RYAN

Married and celebrated: THE FREMONT FOUNDRY, SEATTLE

Date: MAY 22, 2021

Kerry Pigott and Ryan Lewis blurred the line between modern and classic at their festive nuptials, which were held at the Fremont Foundry. Taking cues from a number of their stylistic preferences and seamlessly weaving them together, the couple created a fun yet elegantly designed celebration. A circular altar covered in flowers was the focal point for the ceremony. The Fremont Foundry’s florists brought in notes of yellow and blue, with sunshine-colored dahlias, sunflowers, irises and hydrangeas that encircled the backdrop for the couple’s “I do’s.” Kerry opted for an open-back, body-skimming Anaïs Anette gown with short sleeves and lace accents, against which her yellow bouquet popped. With her hair in a loose, low bun and a dazzling smile, Kerry’s entire look echoed the buoyant atmosphere of the overall celebration. Before the reception, Kerry and Ryan took a moment to themselves to read letters of love to one another and have a brief yet poignant respite before joining the party. The king’s table had a sprawling garland running the length of the table, mirroring the bouquets hanging from the end of each chair. Wooden chargers and ocean-indigo glasses, along with French bistro napkins, laid the groundwork for place settings that felt both elevated and homey. As the night came to a close, Kerry and Ryan took off in style as they sped away in a 1957 Rolls-Royce. Its license plate read “Why Not” — a characteristically cheeky and endearing message from the couple as they said farewell to their guests.

NICOLE AND JEREMIAH

Married

and celebrated: WOODINVILLE LAVENDER

Date: AUGUST 6, 2021

Nicole and Jeremiah Thomas tied the knot among blooming lavender in Redmond, Washington. Having first met while in middle school, the two reconnected when they were in their 30s, and the rest is history. The Colorado-based couple opted for a destination wedding, which featured pastel splashes of pink, blue and lavender with turquoise accents. Their event included some thoughtful touches for hosting a wedding during a pandemic: custom black disposable masks with gold lettering, together with color-coded bracelets for the guests to show their level of comfort with physical contact. The bride’s dress had a lilac undertone to match the vibrant lavender fields. To honor her grandparents, Nicole attached portrait charms of them to her bouquet. The groom wore a blue suit, lined with fabric bearing images of cocktails, and a green paisley tie that matched the bride’s green shoes. In lieu of a traditional flower girl, a close friend of the couple took on the role of “flower guy” and tossed blooms down the aisle. Their wedding also featured a globe in place of a traditional guest book. As the festivities came to end, the couple was whisked off in a Maserati to enjoy their honeymoon in Mexico.
