Andrew Jacob Mediafor all the winners and nominees in Seattle Bride’s Best of 2023! I love producing this issue because it puts a list of the top wedding vendors at your fingertips, an invaluable resource when planning your wedding. This curated list is selected by couples and the industry through a monthlong online voting process; it includes wedding planners, event designers, florists, photographers, caterers, dress designers, venues, DJs and others. Whether it’s a custom-designed wedding gown or a six-course gourmet dinner you seek, these visionaries will bring your dream to life. Find your perfect match from the Best of 2023 list (page 49), which features Washington’s top wedding professionals.
This issue is also filled with inspiration and beauty, from a romantic, vibrant forest design at the incredible Alderbrook Resort & Spa (page 58) to beautiful cakes creatively displayed in a field of flowers (page 66). Find cool ideas for bright color palettes, ceremony designs and sustainable ways to incorporate florals (page 26). And for a dreamy dollop of pure romance, turn to our real-wedding gallery for more ideas on creative details and décor (page 95).
Here’s to you!

(On our covers) The Fall/Winter 2023 issue of Seattle Bride has two covers. Inside each you’ll find the information you need to plan the wedding of your dreams.
“Angelina” bridal gown by Savin London, from Lovely Bride Seattle. Oval diamond halo ring with marquise diamond accents, from Green Lake Jewelry Works. Hair and makeup by I.M Artistry. Photographed by Jenn Tai & Co at Alderbrook Resort & Spa in Union. See more details on page 58.

HEADSHOT BY JENNY QUICKSALLWe approached our shoots from all directions for this issue, zigzagging from Seattle to Stevenson, Alderbrook Resort & Spa in Union to Redmond—where we hung out at Parties on the Terrace—and back to Seattle. We also included vendors from across the state, including Tacoma, Snohomish and Allyn, all the while figuratively hanging a “No boys allowed” sign on the door in favor of an allfemale creative team. From photographers to florists to stylists, they’re all women, as a stylish nod to the era of females finding their voices and using them louder than ever before.
We played dress-up in beautiful gowns from Lovely Bride featuring delicate flowers, playful polka dots and sultry satin. We ate more cake than anyone should from Lady Grey, Sift & Gather and Crème de la Crème. But don’t worry, we didn’t forget about the men—check out page 46. Fashion is only a small part of how real couples are personalizing their big days: gaze upon the floral lapel on page 25, find out what we learned about entertainment on page 32, or head straight to page 95 and get some ideas from all the newlyweds.
Ironically, as we traveled the state to execute our shoots, we experienced all the weather that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, from blue skies to drizzling rain and a dusting of hail. But like you, we weathered the storm, found the silver lining and seized the opportunity to highlight all that Washington has to offer. All of this is to say, embrace the moment, rain or shine. It’s your day, make it your way.
Before I close, a not-to-be-missed feature for all the couples planning out there is Best Of 2023. With more than 7,000 ballots cast, by both couples and industry insiders, these finalists and winners were chosen for their creativity, attention to detail and impeccable service they will bring to your wedding day.
Now, plan away and be sure to share with us as you do @seattlebridemag.
Big hugs, and congratulations on your engagement!

When it came to executing this flawless fall shoot at JM Cellars, a talented team of vendors went all out to create a romantic vibe with a masculine edge, mixing vintage elements with contemporary design. The moody autumnal design was anchored in a palette of burgundy, burnt orange, goldenrod and peach, with accents of teal. Luth Weddings & Events took cues from nature and the fall season, and foraged for autumn foliage to incorporate into arrangements and other design elements. Lush flowers adorned the ceremony space, floating from floor to ceiling in a sea of candles, while the sweetheart table looked as though it was risen from a field of flowers. The intimate reception table was accented with velvet teal linens, compote-style centerpieces, bud vases and glass hurricane candleholders. Other standout details of the day were the textural masterpiece of a cake, adorned with a spray of impeccable sugar flowers; a smart stationery suite with pressed leather detailing; and elegant fashion choices, including a fabulous floral lapel creation.

Perched on 175 verdant acres in the Columbia River Gorge, Skamania Lodge (@skamanialodge) has been a top destination for weddings, as well as honeymoons and pre-wedding getaways, since it opened in 1993. Currently, the lodge’s allure is more robust than ever with new additions to its tree house village and a bold new event space, the Moonlight Pavilion.
The luxurious 2,100-square-foot open-air Moonlight Pavilion is nestled among the trees, yet it includes indoor attributes such as stained-cedar ceilings and rich wood beams, along with built-in fire pits and heat lamps to warm guests on chilly nights. Its prime location in the lodge’s Backyard at Skamania offers a chic option for cocktail hour, but guests can also find a wealth of outdoor activities in the Backyard, such as a disc golf course, axe throwing, a nine-hole short golf course and more. As with all venues at Skamania, reception dinners are curated by the lodge’s award-winning executive chef Zac Janssen and include chef-led meals created on the open-air grill, signature handcrafted cocktails, and locally produced beer and wine.
After tying the knot, escape to Skamania’s tree house village for romance among towering Douglas firs. Three new houses featuring five-star amenities have been built, bringing the village’s total to nine, with more slated to open in 2024. Perched 40 feet above the forest floor, the modern-meets-rustic tree houses are both spacious and intimate, with no detail overlooked. The expansive covered decks, with captivating views of the Cascade Mountains, are the perfect spot for curling up on the wicker-back rocking chairs to commune with the squirrels and birds in the fresh mountain air. All the houses feature an indoor-outdoor fireplace, plush king-size beds and private fire pits—perfect for s’mores and starlit talks. The new tree houses also include a cozy queen-size sleeping nook, which is surrounded by windows and framed by draping that mimics an outdoor tent. Cap off the perfect wedding weekend with a stop at the Waterleaf Spa for a lomi lomi massage or an anti-aging facial—highly recommended before the wedding, as it leaves skin radiant! —Lara
BurnapLegendary bridal designer Pnina Tornai is turning her talents to a bride’s finishing touch: shoes. Created in collaboration with Naturalizer, her debut shoe collection, Pnina Tornai for Naturalizer, combines couture and comfort. “When I saw the quality of the shoes and felt how comfortable they are, I knew instantly that that was the feeling I wanted to share with my brides around the world,” says Tornai of her partnership with the iconic comfort-footwear company. The high-fashion shoe line features details such as voluptuous bows, crystal embellishments and delicate laces—with the sole of each shoe featuring a handwritten message from Tornai. The silk shoes are available in a variety of colors, from bridal white to black, champagne, silver, rose gold and even a bold pink. And with Naturalizer’s attention to comfort and fit, Pnina Tornai heels are sure to be an all-day affair, from the aisle to the last dance.

CortesStephanie Hodges and Buck Shinners were married last summer in a lovely country affair. And when it came to choosing a florist, it was a no brainer. The bride’s and groom’s moms—coined “the flower moms”—designed all the florals, which made complete sense since the two families have been in the Seattle floral industry for a combined 100 years. Seventy years ago, Buck’s grandparents were two of the original Asian flower vendors at Pike Place Market; they later bought two flower farms in Auburn Valley. Buck’s mother, Rosie, is still active in the floral industry, and she created the reception flowers, including a 1947 Willys Jeep spilling with blooms. Stephanie’s parents owned two flower shops over the years, and her mother, Myra, still works as a designer at DeLaurenti Florist. She designed the flowers for the ceremony, from the stunning bridal bouquet to the floral sprays gracing the circular arch.
—Chelsea GibsonThe future of sustainable event design is here, and for Leksi Kostur, a PNW local and London-based designer of innovative bioplastics, there is no more room for waste in the event industry. After developing biodegradable materials for her master’s thesis, Leksi applied her academic expertise and creative talents to event design. As the maid of honor and designer for her sister Nina Kostur’s wedding, Leksi prioritized sustainability while creating stunning key elements for the special day. Her pliable biomaterial, made from algae, was used to design the celebration’s first element, a beautiful biodegradable wedding arch.
“Algae is an abundantly available resource and has a small carbon footprint—negligible when compared with more commonly used materials such as artificial flowers, which become landfill,” Leksi said.
Leksi minimized waste in the wedding’s design by using readily available resources, incorporating dried and fresh florals sourced from her aunt’s garden and the venue grounds, and using her family’s Christmas ornaments. She also crafted the bride’s crown, her favorite creation. By hand-selecting pieces of algae and incorporating pops of gold and bioplastic pearls, she achieved an ethereal crown that framed Nina’s face perfectly. But Leksi’s creativity didn’t stop there—she even made the wedding cake and decorated it with her biodegradable pearls, which are also edible!
As a pioneer in the event industry niche that uses biomaterials, Leksi took a risk, but her innovative approach became a defining element of the wedding. She hopes to inspire more people to consider environmentally conscious practices for their own events in the future.
“Because ceremonies are very important to us, we must create ways of celebrating that don’t involve depleting our already exhausted planet,” Leksi said.

TASTES THAT TANTALIZE. SPACES THAT WELCOME. DETAILS THAT DEFINE.
Daniel Blagovich and Jake Carter’s September wedding in Longbranch served as a beautiful blueprint for incorporating not only a couple’s love for each other, but the shared interests and passions that are at the core of their relationship, which in this case are food, craft and creativity. The celebration took place at a private venue owned by close friends David and Meg Haggerty, owners of DSquared Hospitality Company. Sweeping views of both mountains and bay provided a dreamy backdrop.
As co-owners of the bagel company Howdy Bagel, Daniel and Jake’s vision was an intimate wedding weekend during which food played a starring role. The couple, along with the Haggertys, designed every detail—down to growing more than 80
varieties of vibrant pink and orange dahlias on the property. That effort resulted in a gorgeous ceremony arch brimmed with blooms and fresh greenery, some of that verdancy foraged by the grooms and their friends. Guests tossed fresh flowers as Daniel and Jake walked back up the aisle hand in hand as a married couple.
Beautiful vintage décor awaited beneath a great sailcloth tent as guests entered the reception area. Colorful carpets and bohemian pieces were mingled to achieve an eclectic, autumnal feel, and large vintage cupboards made the perfect buffets and bars.
Daniel and Jake envisioned one grand dining table for all 150 of their guests. Ultimately, 19 tables
were put together to accomplish the enchanting 154-foot tabletop, set at a slight curve to best showcase the views of the property. The reception featured a delicious culinary spread: a gourmet salad prepared by friends of the couple; artisan bread from Balloon Roof Baking Company.; and a gorgeous array of bites provided by Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes Catering, which included antipasti, asparagus and goat cheese pizzettes, rosemary and goat cheese peppadews, bistro filets on bruschetta, and, of course, shrimp and bacon grits as an homage to Jake’s Texas roots. Each place setting featured a custom soup bowl handmade by the grooms, who also dabble in pottery. They personally served each guest a ladle of their favorite homemade soup (their own recipe), with the bowls doubling as heartfelt wedding favors.

FIRST LOOK: This is an opportunity to privately (with or without the photographer) see your significant other for the first time on your wedding day, before the ceremony. Not only does it offer a calming, intimate moment and a magical photo opportunity, but “it can help calm nerves before the ceremony,” says photographer Alexus Nekich of Film Moods (@filmmoods) . “Some couples like it because they can express themselves more truthfully to how they would as if they were alone.”
STRIKE: “‘Strike’ is another word for teardown at the end of the night,” notes Taylor Rychener of Bixby + Pine (@bixbyandpine) . Vendors will remove installations after the event. This removal will often need to be scheduled in a staggered manner among vendors, depending on the complexity and size of the event.
VENDOR MEALS: These are meals provided for the wedding vendors at the event. This may include planners, photographers, videographers, musicians—anyone working at the event.
CUTTING CAKE: If an enormous wedding cake to feed the entire guest count isn’t a priority or in the budget, a small “cutting cake” is often created specifically for the cake-cutting tradition. “The cake becomes the centerpiece, surrounded by florals, champagne and candles,” says Amber Markland of Sift & Gather (@siftandgather)
STYLED SHOOT: For styled photo shoots, wedding or elopement designs are created by wedding vendors to inspire real couples with ideas; they also give vendors the opportunity to showcase their work. “They are designed by a team to inspire creativity, help build portfolios and also be inspiration for real-life couples for their weddings,” says Film Moods’ Nekich.
TOSS BOUQUET: The bouquet toss often leaves wedding bouquets a wilted mess—not ideal for preservation. “The toss bouquet is a petite bouquet that mimics the bridal bouquet’s style but is built to fly through the air into the hands of a hopeful, and single, wedding guest,” explains Natalie Parks of Natalie Parks Floral and Design (@natalieparksfloral) “Instead of throwing the bridal bouquet, the smaller bouquet is made especially for this longstanding tradition.”
LAST DANCE: Couples are generally so busy on their wedding day, they often don’t get a chance to just take it all in and be together. Unlike the first dance, when all eyes are on the couple, a last dance offers them a private moment. “Basically, it is your last chance before the night is over
to cherish each other exclusively and take in all the feels,” says Nekich. (Plus, it’s an amazing photo op!)
INVITATION SUITE: This refers to the package of all the standard paper components that come with your invitations. “This is the entire invitation that goes to your guests, oftentimes consisting of your ceremony/reception invite, a details card (with welcome party and farewell brunch info), RSVP/envelope, and anything else (a sketch of your venue, a map of the area, etc.), all wrapped up in a pretty envelope,” explains Taylor Rychener of Bixby + Pine (@bixbyandpine)

Enchantment meets the pinnacle of refinement in this romantic country wedding editorial photographed at Juliane Henry’s Equestrian School in Snoqualmie. The shoot was truly a vision: a dreamy meadow with sunbeams peeking through the clouds; white horses adorned with garlands; light, airy blooms everywhere; and a stunning stationery suite. Perhaps the editorial’s most standout features are the fashion and styling, which juxtaposes a dramatic corseted gown and cape with natural, near effortless hair and makeup. Explaining her approach to hair and makeup, Kayla Okpareke, owner of Kayla Kollection Artistry, says, “We wanted to focus on executing some 2023/2024 bridal beauty trend predictions: brushed-through tresses and less of the perfectly sculpted glam waves. So, we kept the hair natural and gave her some lived-in waves.” As for the makeup, she says, “The look was kept monochromatic while we played off the warmth of the bride’s natural skin tone, giving her a subtle, ethereal glow that she can feel her best in.” —Chelsea

Integral DJs: “Their wedding entertainment will have a huge impact on the overall experience. This is the one and only opportunity to create the party of a lifetime that their family and friends will remember forever.”
—Marc Matsui of Integral DJsOrion Entertainment: “Do a bit of soul searching. Think about what you value when it comes to entertainment, and how you envision the entirety of your day. Once you pinpoint what kind of entertainment you want, then comes the interview process. We recommend meeting with at least three vendors, get a sense of their vibe, and get a real concrete idea of what services they will provide in totality.”
—David Schwartz, Founder and Marquee DJBlue Wave Band: “It’s helpful to have a general idea of what you’re looking for: your venue aesthetic, guest count and what kind of music you like. From there, an experienced band can help guide you on what band size is perfect for your event and can help put together a set list of songs and genres that you and your guests will love.”
—David Dawda, Blue Wave Band ManagerThe After Party Band: “It’s helpful to have an idea of what you’d like the vibe to be for the night and to have clear expectations for your entertainment. Don’t be afraid to ask your entertainment vendors questions about what they typically do or recommend.
Every band and DJ is different. Ask for videos of live footage if you can. Meet the owners or leaders if you can. Get a clear sense of who you are going to be working with, not only in the process leading up to your wedding day, but also on your wedding day.”
—Tristin Rupp, Band Consultant and SingerSeattle Parties: “Couples should consider all the age groups that will be represented on the big day. What your parents and grandparents will want to dance to might be different from what you and your friends will be requesting. This is essential to the success of any multigenerational dance floor situation. A successful party should make everyone from 9 to 90 feel happy and included!” —Sean
and Leslie Wheatley, ownersIntegral DJs: “Couples are sometimes unaware that entertainment skill level ranges from beginners to talented veterans, just like any other profession. The investment into a DJ or band is usually indicative of the quality of the experience provided.” —Marc
Matsui of Integral DJsOrion Entertainment: “Something most couples and frankly a lot of wedding planners don’t understand when it comes to live entertainment
is where to place performers for best results. This may seem obvious, but it is vital to the success of your dance party that the DJ is placed directly in front of the dance floor—or as close as possible ... so when we play music loud enough for dancing, people who want to dance can feel it, but people in the back can still have a conversation.” —David
Schwartz, Founder and Marquee DJBlue Wave Band : “First, it works best if a couple gives their entertainers a list of three to five must-play songs and favorite genres. Then let the band use that guidance to work their magic reading the room on the night. Second, some venues are subject to noise ordinances or have decibel restrictions, especially if they are in a populated area. Make sure to plan your day-of schedule accordingly so you can maximize the party time and won’t be surprised by an early cutoff.”
—David Dawda, Blue Wave Band ManagerThe Afterparty Band: “Most couples don’t understand the difference between bands or DJs that are a family or have a single owner/operator versus ones that are corporations, agencies, or franchises that have a roster of DJs or a huge roster of musicians that they will call upon to do a date. It is crucial to ask your vendors who you will be working with and who you will be getting for your wedding, and if they practice together.” —Tristin
Rupp, Band Consultant and SingerSeattle Parties: “Sound equipment, microphones and music are required in multiple locations: such as the ceremony and cocktail hour as well as where dinner, speeches and dancing will take place. Be sure to discuss the time needed for setup and teardown when hiring your entertainment so that these bases are covered. The company typically has an 8- to 10hour day, sometimes more. This is all factored into the cost and may better illustrate why pricing may be higher than expected. Hot tip: Feed your crew a hot meal, it’s a long day for them!” —Sean
and Leslie Wheatley, owner sIntegral DJs: “Silent disco is a fantastic way to do something different and extremely fun. Older attendees can set their own volume, and it’s a good way to keep the music rolling beyond 10 p.m. noise ordinances at outdoor venues!” —Marc
Matsui of Integral DJsOrion Entertainment: “Enhance a backdrop with LED lighting, mirrors, greenery/flowers or balloons. This is usually not cheap, but the results can be stunning! If given enough time, most photo booth companies can order custom props with your names, or funny messages that will keep guests laughing and smiling for every photo booth session.” —David
Shwartz, founder and marquee DJBlue Wave Band: “It can take an event to the next level if you have a stage for the band and a designated dance floor. It can make your event feel more like a concert and really allows your entertainers to play to the crowd. We also love when a parent or loved one asks to perform a special song with the band.” —David
Dawda, Blue Wave Band ManagerThe Afterparty Band: “We love when the bride or groom wants to play with us. We’ve also performed for choreographed dances (be it first dances, mother and son or father-daughter, or groups such as sororities and fraternities, just the wedding party, or even all the guests)! And this may not be for every couple, but we love surprise songs. We also highly recommend props and costumes that go with the ones we already bring and wear if you really want to throw the party of a lifetime.” —Tristin
Rupp, Band Consultant and SingerSeattle Parties: “Having one song request per RSVP card in your wedding invitation is a great way to get everyone engaged and thinking about the dance party in advance. Plus, it’s a fun way to decide on some of the dance songs.” —Sean
and Leslie Wheatley, ownersIntegral DJs: “The best first dance songs usually come from shared experiences during the relationship or artists that both people enjoy. There is no wrong answer, and couples can choose between a sentimental or upbeat vibe.”
—Marc Matsui of Integral DJsOrion Entertainment: “Some of my favorites are ‘First Time (acoustic)’ by Seven Lions, Slander and Dylan Matthew; ‘From the Ground Up’ by Dan and Shay; and ‘Heaven’ by Calum Scott. People often dread the first dance and want it to be as short as possible. This is the first dance of many that you will share as a married couple. Revel in it. Don’t worry about everyone else in the room. Just take that moment for you and your sweetie to soak up all the energy of the day before your friends and family join you on the dance floor soon after.”
—David Shwartz, founder and marquee DJBlue Wave Band: “Some of our favorite first dance songs include classics like ‘At Last’ by Etta James, ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ by Elvis, and more modern hits like ‘Lover’ by Taylor Swift. We also curated a playlist on Spotify with many first dance recommendations.” —David Dawda, Blue Wave Band Manager
The Afterparty Band: “The right song is going to be whatever feels right to the couple. Be it fast, slow, funny, romantic, classic, brand new, an original song, a cover of a song done a cappella, with a string quartet, or some unique way that they both love.”
—Tristin Rupp, Band Consultantand Singer
Seattle Parties: “What is your favorite song as a couple? Is there a song that reminds you of your first date, your first kiss or your first vacation together? Is there a song that really captures the story of your love? Did you want it to be a romantic love song or a unique combination or mash-up [starting slow then mixing it up to surprise everyone with a hilarious dance-off at the end]?” —Sean and Leslie Wheatley, owners
“When you purchase a bespoke suit, you’re not just buying a suit. You’re buying a work of art, a curated piece of history.”
The current definition of “bespoke” has become a bit obscured. Many people have watered this term down to mean “custom options available.” At Sew Generously Bespoke, we offer two separate services. Our Made to Measure service is what other shops often (incorrectly) refer to as “bespoke.” In this process, the suit is mostly made off-site in a factory we work with, and we perform all hand finishing—such as buttonholes—in our shop. Our True Bespoke offering is a rare thing to find in this day and age (even on Savile Row). A part of our mission is to return to the original craftsmanship and definition of bespoke, and ensure it is made proper. Bespoke, in its finest terms, is the apex of the tailoring world. Bespoke was originally translated from Middle English besprecan to imply “a conversation.” This conversation is an iterative process between client and tailor (not just a sales associate) to make a truly one-of-a-kind suit specifically for one person. An individualized pattern is drafted for this one customer, and each stitch and cut occurs on our own tables here in Seattle, using only the highest standards of handcraftsmanship.
Our most popular process, Made to Measure (MTM), provides the perfect balance of high-quality craftsmanship, practically endless customization to suit your style and the affordability to make these suits a standard in the modern wardrobe. During the MTM process, our sales team will take you through all of the 6,000-plus fabric possibilities as well as other options and customizations that will make up your individual suit and style expression. We take this, along with extensive measurements of your exact fit, and work in partnership with our overseas factory, who creates the base construction out of fabric from our luxury fabric mills in the United Kingdom and Italy. The basic suit construction is sent back to Seattle for another fitting with you. Once that fitting is complete, we’ll know all the alterations and additional finishing touches necessary to complete your stylized, luxe garment.
We offer a respectful, friendly experience featuring traditionally male fashions tailored to any body type. We have extensive experience co-creating with larger and smaller bodies, disabled clientele and members of our LGBTQIA+ community. Whoever you are, you can walk in confident that we are excited to meet you, glad you are here, and that our goal is a positive and respectful experience that will elevate your confidence to new levels.
At Sew Generously Bespoke, each of us is extremely passionate about what we do. We are passionate about fabrics, about garment construction, about buttonholes and, most importantly, we are passionate about the way we make our customers feel when they get dressed up. Our goal is to make that “first look” moment just as special for both newlyweds and to set you up with an outfit that will bring you confidence and joy for years to come.

The goal of wedding photography is to capture the feeling and the emotion of the special day so the couple can relive it over the years to come. Winning event design happens when all the elements of the wedding are in unison. Roche Harbor Resort on San Juan Island was the idyllic location for Abby Smith and Reed Semcken’s classic-meets-contemporary wedding. The historic seaside venue set the tone for the elegant nuptials, with all the details following suit, from the striking invitation suite and floral centerpieces to the couple’s immaculate style and dainty cake, all of which is gracefully captured by Ashlee O’Malley of O’Malley Photographers.

This bouquet takes its inspiration from the color palette of traditional Japanese culture, in particular, cherry blossoms, kimonos and the deep, brilliant red found throughout Japanese designs and artwork. In this floral homage to Japan, red anemones, Japanese sweet peas and dendrobium orchids are accentuated by peonies and roses in soft pinks and beiges.

A self-taught baker, Olga Pysko creates designs that are breathtaking in their delicate details and contemporary styling. Case in point: this ethereal two-tiered cake adorned with butterflies that are created by hand using wafer paper.
The vision for Alyssa Goldberg and Cody Plaiss’ wedding at Seattle’s Admiral’s House began with a pair of Aquazurra heels. Alyssa, an interior designer, and a talented team of vendors brought her chic pink and red color palette to life. “I always knew I would plan and design my own wedding,” says Alyssa. “After nearly two years of planning and working with the most incredible vendors, our wedding was even more magical than I could have ever dreamed.” Alyssa included special touches that held personal meaning, such as her lighting plan for the tent, which incorporated pink and red florals into each pendant. “By nighttime, the pendants appeared like fireflies, sparkling over the dance floor and reminiscent of a southern Indiana summer, in honor of Cody’s home.” Unique details abounded, such as the vows, which were officiated by Alyssa’s close friend and father figure Stephen Goldfarb; signature cocktails named after their favorite songs; a ping pong table in honor of Alyssa’s mom (who passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2019); personalized hand-painted tiles; and more. “It all reflected and embodied the story of our love,” says Alyssa.

A VIBRANT COLOR PALETTE IS BROUGHT TO LIFE IN THE FORESTS OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST
Design and Florals: Sassyfly Luxury Events
Photography: Jenn Tai & Co
Venue: Alderbrook Resort & Spa
“Gramercy” gown by NeWhite with “Crème Brûlée” veil by Toni Federici and “Serenade” earrings by Untamed Petals, all from Lovely Bride Seattle. Split shoulder pear and pavé diamond halo ring from Green Lake Jewelry Works.Resting on the shores of Hood Canal, Alderbrook Resort & Spa is the quintessential Pacific Northwest destination. The luxury enclave rests on 88 tranquil acres that feature old-growth trees, streams, hiking trails and endless vistas of the Olympic Mountains, making it a dream wedding destination.
“I love the atmosphere at Alderbrook,” says Doreen Fitzpatrick of Sassyfly Luxury Events. “It has a calm ambiance and beautiful nature, with a modern feel.”
Verdant outdoor event spaces include the expansive Waterfront Lawn, the ballroom-adjacent Cottage Lawn and the intimate Courtyard Lawn. Inspired by the lushness of the Alderbrook’s surroundings, Sassyfly Luxury Events created a stylish forest-inspired design with a bright yet sophisticated color palette.
Couples are afraid of COLOR because they think it won’t work or look ELEGANT . I wanted to show how BEAUTIFUL and luxurious a BOLD palette can be.
– Doreen Fitzpatrick, Sassyfly Luxury Events
The tabletop design reflects the textures of the forest. A dark wooden dining table is set with wood chargers layered with white china, delicate glass salad plates and a lovely salmon-hued dessert plate. Bright floral napkins accentuate the boldly hued blooms.
A waterfall of flowers cascades from the dinner table, creating a beautiful juxtaposition of color to the surrounding flora.
I love the FEELING this design embodies. The bright colors bring out positive ENERGY and HAPPINESS
– Doreen Fitzpatrick, Sassyfly Luxury Events
When it comes to creating a design for my couples my number one PRIORITY is to listen to their VISION . Then I bring my EXPERTISE and contributions to create a DESIGN that is ‘theirs,’ says Osima. It’s very IMPORTANT to me to make sure each couple EXPERIENCES their own dream coming to reality.

Nestled in a meadow of wildflowers, Lady Grey’s (@ladygreyseattle) floral cake is adorned with delicate hand-painted blooms and subtle textures that give movement to the overall design. Offering a hint about the cake’s blackberry buttercream filling, Gayle Harvie of Belles and Whistles crafts an ethereal field of flowers in hues of periwinkle and blush with butterfly ranunculus, delphinium, tulips, blue hyacinth and bunny tail plumes, all perfectly captured on Parties on the Terrace’s Grand Lawn.
Overlooking the Augustus Terrace, this display is simple and striking in its blend of elegant florals and modern design. Crème de la Crème’s (@cremedelacreme425) three-tiered cake is embossed with a gorgeous three-dimensional diamond pattern that brings texture and a sense of the contemporary to the design. In a creative twist, Belles and Whistles encircles the cake with Pieris japonica, or Japanese lavender heath, an evergreen shrub whose beauty is enhanced here by tiny bell-shaped buds that perfectly complement the cake’s plum tone.
Against the backdrop of The Grand Lawn, Belles and Whistles creates a romantic scene by suspending Sift & Gather’s (@siftandgather) chic confection on a floral-filled swing. The striking two-tiered cake is wrapped in a cascade of ruffles painstakingly created from wafer paper below a smooth coated top tier. The verdant arrangement of peach and pink florals features hydrangeas, jasmine vine, chrysanthemums, scabiosa and garden roses, forming a stunning base for the cake.

As a Seattle native, Delaney Foster, a mechanical engineer with Microsoft, always dreamed of a wedding in the beautiful outdoors of the Pacific Northwest. However, her Navy officer fiancé Garrett Locher’s deployment schedule left them with no choice but to have their wedding in November—not ideal for an outdoor ceremony in Washington. Despite this, Delaney and Garrett were determined not to let the weather rain on their parade, or in their case, wedding. Delaney described her vision as “PNW evergreen and sparkle,” which led to the historic Axis Pioneer Square’s transformation into an enchanted forest. Above, a canopy of twinkling lights created the illusion of a night under the stars. The family came together to make the day magical: Delaney’s sister, Kendall was an integral part of the celebration, inspiring Delaney’s heartfelt “Sister’s forever” reception speech; Delaney’s father went above and beyond by planting evergreen trees specifically for the occasion, resulting in dozens of lush, green trees throughout the space; while her grandmother, artist Lucy Rigg, designed the invitation’s double heart insignia to be individually hand watercolored by the bride’s mother, Noelle. Noelle also created the couple’s custom wedding crest in a marriage of elements representing different aspects of the pair’s rich history together.

Date: JUNE 4, 2022
In honor of a recent trip they took to the country they adore, avid travelers Shakeila Valentine and Neil Loomis’ wedding at Lairmont Manor took guests on a journey to Italy. Simply by Tamara Nicole transformed the space into a beautifully designed custom market stand, where guests collected bunches of dried flowers that served as both escort cards and favors. The floral design was a summer’s paradise, bursting with bright hues of pink, yellow and orange, bringing warmth and energy to the space. An abundance of citrus fruits arranged in harmony with the florals provided a refreshing aroma and infused the atmosphere with liveliness. Shakeila’s favorite details were the bust planters that adorned the manor, inspired by Renaissance sculptures. These elegant pieces added a touch of sophistication and history, reminding the couple of their cherished ventures abroad. Shakeila and Neil exchanged vows standing in front of a gorgeous floral installation of delicate pastel roses. The romantic ambiance continued into the reception, as guests indulged in Italian cuisine and endless cups of espresso with custom napkins adorned with an illustration of Homer, the couple’s beloved French bulldog. The wedding reflected the couple’s love of the finer things in life, and most importantly, each other.

Married & Celebrated: GRAY BRIDGE, SULTAN
Date: AUGUST 28, 2022
Calle Lieppman and Ridge Foster’s luxurious celebration was inspired by their then upcoming honeymoon in Morocco and their shared love of good food. Though the couple is now based in Nashville, it was important to Calle that they tie the knot in Washington, the state where she was born and raised. After an online tour of Gray Bridge, Calle was sold; not only did she love Gray Bridge’s luxurious boho vibes, but also that the venue allowed the couple to bring in their desired caterer. And because upscale food was a priority for them, this sealed the deal. Keeping in mind her and Ridge’s love of both food and their honeymoon destination, Calle opted for a warm color palette inspired by Moroccan spices: burnt orange, terra-cotta, mauve and gold, along with touches of navy for contrast and to give a masculine edge to the design. And while Calle loved the idea of boho picnic-style seating, she knew that not all the guests would be thrilled with sitting on the ground. So the cushion-seated table was flanked by two full-size feasting tables, and all the guests dined from a custom menu curated by Lovely Night—which included a standout short rib! To honor Calle and Ridge’s three adorable dogs, Calle’s brother created three signature cocktails, each inspired by one of the pups’ unique personalities: sweet, spicy and sassy! Desserts included a honey-vanilla cake and a variety of Moroccan-inspired doughnuts that featured flavors such as cardamom and rose, pistachio and classic vanilla.

Married: BASTYR UNIVERSITY
Celebrated: COLUMBIA TOWER
Date: AUGUST 21, 2021
Chelsea Ghant and Mark Hopkins’ love story began in college when they first crossed paths—and Mark was instantly smitten. After that initial exchange, they fell in love, and just a few years later, they said “I do” in the stunning chapel of Bastyr University. Chelsea had always dreamed of having a regal wedding. Her inspiration came from character Olivia Pope’s grand wedding on the hit TV show “Scandal.” With careful planning and attention to detail by 3eleven Events, the couple brought the fictional celebration into reality. From gorgeous floral arrangements to the elegant venue, every aspect of the day reflected Chelsea’s vision of a wedding fit for a queen. To honor the most significant people in her life, Chelsea chose to walk down the aisle accompanied by a select few. Her biological father walked her part of the way, before gracefully passing her to her godfather. Finally, Chelsea’s mother and stepfather took over, escorting her the rest of the way down the aisle. The moment was a touching display of the love and support that surrounded Chelsea on her special day. Following Chelsea and Mark’s exchange of vows in the chapel, their wedding reception kicked off at Columbia Tower. As guests arrived, they were greeted with a unique seating arrangement that celebrated significant milestones in the couple’s relationship. Each table was labeled with a date that held special meaning for Chelsea and Mark, serving as a beautiful reminder of memories they shared over the years. The couple’s day was a true celebration of love, filled with thoughtful and meaningful details that made for an unforgettable event.

Gina Baker and Michael Santiago’s wedding at the Fremont Foundry was a vibrant celebration of love, life and rhythm, with a deep bow to the groom’s Puerto Rican heritage. In a unique move, the festivities kicked off with a happy hour attended by the couple, giving them a chance to enjoy a few drinks with friends and family before exchanging vows. Their fiesta came to life with rich tropical colors and an abundance of palm trees to evoke a Caribbean atmosphere. The dinner menu featured a delectable selection of Puerto Rican inspired dishes, including savory empanadas and fried plantains, and was accompanied by a custom gin and tonic bar, a G&T being Gina and Michael’s favorite cocktail. The celebration also offered a wide range of entertainment options, such as a seven-piece salsa band and skilled salsa dance instructors who got everyone on the dance floor. In true Puerto Rican fashion, other diversions included a dominoes room and a rum tasting, not to mention the walls lined with colorful fedoras and flowers for the guests to don.

Dakota Mackey and Erika Kay’s bespoke garden wedding at The Lodges on Vashon began in a similar fashion for each of them: getting ready with their friends while sipping drinks and blasting music. Erika had a special guest, her 70-pound pit bull, Big Boy, who spent the morning soaking up attention from the group. Vashon Island’s natural beauty was transformed into a colorful garden with an array of blooms in summery hues. Dakota and Erika each walked down the aisle with their parents at their sides and exchanged beautiful, loving vows that brought tears to the guests’ eyes. The ceremony came to a close with a moving rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Lover,” performed by Erika’s siblings. Dinner was of key importance to Dakota, who previously had a successful food blog. To create intimacy and celebrate togetherness, guests were seated at long feasting tables, where they dined on an upscale buffet-style banquet. In addition to cake, cookies played a starring role at the reception, the recipes being famous from Dakota’s blog as well as renowned among family and friends. The couple capped off the night by sneaking off for a photo session with their beloved scooter and a bottle of Champagne. But the party didn’t end there; Dakota and Erika later joined their guests for an epic after-party, which was spent dancing into the wee hours, fueled by pizza and drinks.

Married & Celebrated: PACCAR PAVILION, OLYMPIC SCULPTURE PARK
Date: SEPTEMBER 4, 2022
Olympic Sculpture Park was the scene of Sydney Hopper and Ben Iaderosa’s wedding, as loved ones gathered to socialize, share memories and engage in some friendly competition over ping-pong. Sydney and Ben first met in Chicago: A weeknight date over drinks quickly blossomed into true love, and a few years later the pair was searching for the perfect wedding venue in Sydney’s hometown of Seattle. With guests traveling in from various parts of the country, Sydney and Ben wanted a venue that captured the essence of Seattle, and PACCAR Pavilion at Olympic Sculpture Park embodied that vibe with its lush outdoor space and floor-to-ceiling glass windows, which afford a breathtaking view of the iconic Space Needle. In wanting to create an inclusive atmosphere, Sydney and Ben knew traditional dinner seating was not for them. The reception took on an elevated bar-lounge vibe, featuring modern credenzas, stylish barstools, and sleek lounge areas designed to encourage conversation and connection among guests. For some nostalgic fun, an assortment of games, including ping-pong and cornhole, were scattered throughout the pavilion. Dinner featured delectable foodand-drink stations, including a tempting poke bar and an Italian espresso cart, which paid homage to Ben’s Italian heritage—and his family’s tradition of partaking in espresso shots at every gathering. Sydney and Ben’s wedding was the perfect union of love and family traditions, along with a solid dose of caffeine and healthy competition.

Married & Celebrated: FORT WORDEN STATE PARK
Date: SEPTEMBER 10, 2022
Amidst the serene beauty of Port Townsend, Sarah Marchitto’s and Ross Rowinski’s long-awaited union took place in a stunning outdoor ceremony at Fort Worden State Park. Beneath the sprawling branches of a magnificent madrone tree, the couple looked smitten as they exchanged vows in a vintage-inspired ceremony, perfectly complementing the historic charm of the venue. The event’s design struck a perfect balance between simplicity and boldness, with a refined color palette of white and ivory, accentuated by subtle shades of marsala, cinnamon, dusty rose and burgundy to highlight the verdant greenery of the surroundings. After the idyllic ceremony, the wedding party continued the festivities under a cozy sailcloth canopy tent, where a combination of rustic banquet-style tables and traditional seating created an inviting atmosphere. The space was adorned with lush garden-style floral arrangements that contributed to the whimsical and lively ambiance. As guests grooved the night away on the dance floor and sipped on Champagne and signature cocktails, they also indulged in slices from a stunning five-tiered cake, which was accompanied by homemade cookies lovingly baked by the couple’s grandmothers. It was a sweet and heartwarming touch that perfectly captured the intimate feel of the day.

Under the glow of the late-summer sun, Jen Bashian and Cooper Hopkins married in an opulent celebration that would have made Jay Gatsby green with envy. Jen and Cooper’s love story began at a comedy class in Los Angeles, and with their shared passion for film and a flair for theatrics, it was only fitting that they incorporated elements of the golden era of Hollywood into their wedding day. Drawing inspiration from classic and timeless themes, the design for the wedding centered around a simple color palette of textured whites and greens, with elegant gold accents, perfectly complementing the rich greenery of the surrounding forest at JM Cellars. Bond in Bloom seamlessly incorporated the couple’s sources of inspiration into their wedding, crafting gorgeous floral masterpieces, such as the stunning ceremony arbor beneath which Jen and Cooper were wed. After the couple exchanged vows, the wedding party made its way to a spacious tent adorned with breathtakingly beautiful twinkling lights, reminiscent of a sparkling Pacific Northwest night. To create a sense of intimacy, guests were encouraged to gather around long, family-style tables, where they shared drinks and stories. As the festivities began, an epic disco ball illuminated the space, casting glittering disks of light on the endless dancing and bringing a touch of magic to the scene. Instead of traditional party favors, Jen and Cooper chose to make generous donations to several charities that are close to their hearts and important to their loved ones. As the night drew to a close, the two were sent off by friends and family, making a stylish exit in a sleek 1983 Pontiac limousine.

As Mahdieh Lashgari walked down the aisle to enchanting music performed in person by the Seattle String Quartet, guests were transported into a world of rich Persian culture and beauty. The air was filled with excitement as the bride, clad in a full-length veil handmade by her mother, met her groom, Armand Mauro, and the romantic melody “Soltane Ghalbha” played. The ceremony at the luxurious Fairmont Olympic Hotel took place in a floral heaven, with abundant white and blush blooms adorning every inch of the space. As guests took their seats, they were welcomed by arrangements lining the aisles and leading to a statement floral arch at the altar. Following the ceremony, Mahdieh and Armand made a grand entrance into the reception, accompanied by the Jafra Dabke Team; the dance troupe performed a traditional Palestinian dabke with drums, which set the tone for the festivities to come. As the anticipated act of cake cutting approached, the bride’s and groom’s loved ones prepared for another Persian tradition, the raghseh chagoo, which translates to “knife dance,’ a tradition that is performed before the cake cutting. In this custom, the newlyweds must “earn” the right to cut their cake by offering money to the dancers, who have the knife. Once Mahdieh and Armand successfully earned the knife, the celebration truly began. The dance floor came alive with energetic moves, while dollar bills decorated the space. As guests began their farewells, they were pleasantly surprised to receive saffron all the way from Iran as a favor from the bride’s grandmother. The gesture was not only a token of gratitude but also a symbol of the family’s heritage, making it a truly unique and prized gift.

In a powerful display of love, Cyrrene Sharples and Max Perry braved a blizzard to say “I do” in Mount Rainier National Park. As true nature lovers, the couple wanted to embrace the elements of the Pacific Northwest and marry on the mountain where Cyrrene grew up. “Nature has always been central to how we spend our free time and how we harmonize with the world and within our relationship. So we knew we wanted to get married in nature,” Cyrrene said. In a secluded spot within one of Mount Rainier’s lush evergreen forests, Cyrrene and Max exchanged vows privately prior to the formal ceremony. Then they returned to Copper Creek Inn to marry with their loved ones surrounding them and their close friends officiating. Contributions from those loved ones were deeply felt: Max’s sister, , Jacqueline Perry, personally grew the gorgeous flowers that were used in the ceremony design; and the couple’s loyal dog, Mossy, served as ring bearer, proudly sporting a bespoke leather pouch attached to his collar. The reception kicked off with signature cocktails inspired by the bride, the groom and Mossy. As a parting gift, guests were given custom beanies featuring an illustration of Mount Rainier along with the date of Cyrrene’s and Max’s joyous union.
