‘A brutally honest and courageous account of living with mental illness – truly inspiring’

‘There are people out there who will no longer feel alone after reading Nikki’s story’
-Markus Feehily
Nikki Hayes has lived most of her life with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), an illness that went undiagnosed until 2015. BPD is a serious mental disorder marked by a pattern of on-going instability in mood, behaviour, self-image and functioning. These experiences often result in impulsive actions and lead to unstable relationships. BPD is the most prevalent personality disorder and is associated with severe functional impairment and high rates of mortality by suicide.
Nikki believes she should have been diagnosed the first time she came in contact with the mental health services, when, aged fifteen, she had anorexia. If not then, her condition should have been recognised after an attempted suicide in 1997; and if not then, after her post-natal depression in 2014.
