Whilst patients are encouraged to socialise, quiet spaces are also available for those times when patients feel they need the opportunity for privacy and calm. The hospital has a variety of therapeutic spaces too such as the Sensory Room, and the multi-media Reminiscence Room with its Nordic Chair has the facility to project content tailored to individual preferences and tastes

Bedrooms have cheerful, positive colour schemes and plenty of signage to minimise confusion and ensure patients feel confident and in control of their own personal spaces. Common social and dining spaces are bright and airy.

Part of the extensive therapeutic provision, St Peter’s also offers the opportunity to engage in many of the activities that patients may have enjoyed in the past or try new activities The hospital has its own hair and beauty salon, an occupational therapy adapted kitchen, and a well-equipped gym managed by trained physiotherapist Musical therapy sessions are offered and there is a constant programme of themed activities. A local organisation brings in a variety of animals regularly, which always proves popular with residents.

Additionally, a team of trained drivers regularly take patients out for trips in our adapted vehicles, and engagement in community activities is positively encouraged as part of the treatment plan.

On arrival all our patients undergo a 16-week assessment which then helps formulate clear and timefocused care and transition plans.

In addition, our transitional rehabilitation service includes training for new providers, families, and locality teams to share an increased understanding of the individuals’ needs and care plans, in order to support successful onward placement.

We also offer longer term rehabilitation for those individuals who may require lengthier support or whose condition is likely to deteriorate further

Our Care Pathways also support the development of care partnerships and empower both service users and their carers. We also use them as an essential tool to incorporate local and national guidelines into everyday practice, manage clinical risk and meet the requirements of clinical governance.
