unfortunately fell sick. Claire replaced her with aplomb D. In December it was Robin and Rosa from the USA. They spent a good month here. Robin worked with Class eight while Rosa did Seven and Six. They too are dearly missed as much for who they were as for what they did. The two of them will be delighted with the NIOS results. Thanks. E. Presently, June 2012 a group from Coláiste an Phiarsaigh are out with Claire and John. They work ceaselessly and refreshingly and are giving their very best. They have bonded so well with the children and among them-‐ selves that their going will be hard for all concerned. This is the first 9me we have had boys and girls from the same school coming over. The girls with Claire stayed downstairs while the three boys put up in the Scholas9cate. Now we know that downstairs can work. It is blessing to have had so many coming from different shores to work for the kids. Even though our kids cannot quite express themselves, they are dearly grateful….and so are we.

Developments A priority on our list was the doing up of the building downstairs .It was in bad need of repair. What with the 9mber crumbling, we were quite lucky to have survived the year. Once school closed , we were down to the business of renova9ng the en9re set up.Now it houses Classes 5,6,7,8 the NIOS, along with the tailoring, Rexene and knijng departments and room for the visitors.

As the picture will tell you , a polycar-‐ bonate tunnel has been fashioned from the top of the stairs to the new building . The effect of it will become apparent once the monsoons start. The idea and wherewithal of it came for the Drog-‐ heda boys,

Marie McCabe and Claire Canning for making this possible. Now that they are all anxious to con-‐ 9nue with their trades we have decided to open the NIOS 11 and 12 to them . So most of them will have classes from 8-‐ 10 a.m and then proceed to develop their skills as appren9ces. Laaihun, Barisha, Ibadahun and Darihun will be apprec9ced in Li>le Chef, a confec9on-‐ ery close by. Ribahun has chosen to become a recep9onist cum e-‐mail correspondent with a different group altogether. Bantei has decided to join Green Plate as of July 1st. James has yet to indicate his preference. Evangeline will pursue her higher studies in Savio School. So that you might get the picture right: a student finishing from here will com-‐ plete the NIOS class 10, the DKIT exam and, if so desirous, NIOS Class 12 exam.

Felix and Wonderful

Exams Two groups did the Na)onal Open School exam. The exam, for those that might have trouble understanding it, is the equivalent of the school leaving exam. The difference is that the students have the liberty of doing as many, or as few subjects as they wish at a 9me. Bantei, Barisha, Darihun, Evangeline, James, Laaihun and Ribahun have all successfully cleared their English …all did very well. Bantei is yet to clear his Economics. Then Alfred, Briscilla, Isaac, Meblari, Philarihun, Tracy, Valeria did their Home Science and Economics exam. Sorry, as I told you before, Tracy was excluded from the Home Science…she will do it in October. They all did more than well, with Valeria sijng 9ght on 83%. 2

I R I S H E X AM Thanks to the intense work put in by Peter Nolan, Marie McCabe, Claire Canning and Mary Adamson we were finally able to get recognition for the exam to be conducted under the auspices of the IRELAND INDIA EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION. The Dundalk Institute of Technology’s President, Mr Cummins, after careful scanning agreed to be the examining body that would grant certification. 8 of the NIOS along with Selina did the exam : English, Computers, Home Economics and two trades. Claire from Ireland was the official supervisor. We now await the results and the certification.
