PROVIDENCE Karate For the first time as a school we tool part in the Meghalaya School Karate Competition. The number of children who took part, the number that got medals and the number that did not tells a fair story of the interest in Karate. The person who trains them is Linza Fenley. I think she won the world championship a couple of years ago. Medal Tally: 2 Gold, 3 Silver, 8 Bronze

With fond and grateful greetings to Oz, USA, Canada, Ireland, England, Rome and India. Your goodness still touches our lives and through us the lives of the kids. What can be more satisfying? Ask any Nobel Laureate. Once again, a sincere thanks for all you do and are doing. Christmas is almost upon us so this is the first opportunity we get to wish all of you a VERY HAPPY XMAS and a different NEW YEAR.

Sonu (above) is still the star Taekwando fighter. He has competed in many tournaments throughout the year and is planning to go international next year.

With time on our hands, we have to ask ourselves why Christianity became so big, why Christ became so important. The answer we find goes beyond the “mistletoe and holly” to a Christ who helped everyone in need , no matter you they were. It is easy then for us to commend to you the same Christ since you too have been so generous with your time and effort on behalf of God’s kingdom. The only prayer he taught was the “Our Father” in which he prays “thy kingdom come”. …… and it has. thanks to your efforts.

Relay Team The school relay team has picked up since you last heard of them. Unfortunately they are up against s o m e o f t h e t o p t ea m s i n Shillong. Given time and the opportunities they should come good. The next year will depend on whether their exams clash with the sports. We will have to wait and see.

Ted in USA Back in the US of A Ted battles on regardless. He had a session with the old boys of St. Columba’s school in order to add protein to the diet of the kids. He was assisted in his efforts by Dr Cyril D’Souza, Anurag Bhargava, Projjal Dutta and Pavan Uttam. We are sure that the combined effort was a roaring success.

May you and all at home enjoy a wonderful Xmas , during and after which we are sure you will continue to make Christ more present to the world

Where does one start? The Royal Wahingdoh Football Club has kindly regrassed our entire field so now the children can play their games without distraction. Hopefully in the coming year the children will have the opportunity to go down class by class. At the same time we hope to prepare an under 13 boys soccer team and an under 13 girls soccer team. They might get plastered in the beginning but one day they will come good.

We still have to work out the dynamics of how we will operate this… but operate it we will.

Miss Pranamee’s farewell This yearly sadly, more than happily, we had to bid adieu to Miss Pranamee, who has moved on to get married. Just before the closure of school we had a farewell for her: the kids performed, she was duly felicitated and will be duly missed. Her replacement will be Miss Amanda. Poor lady; she has a tough job on her hands.

Kevin in Austrlia The Aussie gang led by Kevin too has done its share .Greg has ensured that Providence’s garden , where he did so much hard work, continues to flourish. We must commend Kevin for his efforts. Kevin has faithfully been here every second year since he first visited us. He is a brick.

Christmas Party

Above: The Karate team during training. The suits were funded by Mount Mercy College, Cork, Ireland.

The school closed on the 12th and will not open till early February. As you can guess from this there is no summer break. The school carries on non-stop from early February till December. One hopes that the kids manage. Before they left for home they each took bag of rice. Hopefully no one will be hungry. On the 12th they had their farewell lunch, a Christmas party and their results The rice and the pork for the lunch was provided by Brian (for those who know him); the chicken was provided by Charles, the owner of the Wok and the salad and papads were ordered from the canteen. Together with the staff and others, we catered for 350.

But if you’d like to see a video put together earlier this year that includes a tour of Providence School you can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9s0MOcg2WU

That’s it for the present. Have a nice X’Mas and a lovely New Year. Gratefully, The Providence Team
