Great Turnout for IRD Duhallow’s Open Day

The sun certainly broke through for IRD Duhallow’s Social Farming and Community Garden open day and we were all for it. Opening the proceedings was IRD Duhallow chairperson Michael Twohig. Then, special guest speakers organic gardener Klaus Laitenberger and Kath White from Fine Oaks Alpacas provided wonderful information regarding their respective fields. However, Kath’s furry friends undoubtedly stole the spotlight, interacting with young and old.

A truly wonderful day was had by all. We were all reaching for the sun cream and water but it was a welcome complaint. Klaus and Kath gave wonderful talks, showcasing their expertise. Klaus rallied for a return to respecting mother nature and the earth. We take from the soil whilst sometimes forgetting to replenish this great source that is essential to out continued existence. Kath offered a look into the breeding and rearing of an animal that is exotic to most of us. Education out amongst mother nature; doesn’t get better than that! Words by Tadhg Curtin.

And what a view!
