RTFCwasoriginallyfoundedin1875butit’snotuntil1896thatwefindreferencestoa ReserveTeamwhichseemstobeplayingfriendliesagainstCambridgebasedsides. Duringtheearlyyearsofthe20 centurythispatterncontinuedbeforewefindthe teamplayingintheCambsLeaguebeforeswitchingtotheBuntingfordandDistrict LeaguewheretheywerecrownedLeaguechampionstwiceinthreeseasons[1921/22 and1923/24]
Throughoutthe1930’stheyhadswitchedbacktotheCambsLeagueandimmediately aftertheendofWW2wontheCambsJuniorCup1946/47beatingSwavesey2-1inthe final.TheClubthenmovedintotheHertsCountyLeague,thentotheSouthMidlands Leaguein1959/60beforecompletingafullcirclebyreturningtotheHertsCounty leaguewhereboththefirstandreserveteamsenjoyedsuccessfulchampionship winningcampaigns.Butitdidn’tstopthere,andin1977/78bothteamswerebackin theSouthMidlandsLeaguewheretheReserveswonsuccessiveLeaguetitlesin 1978/79and1979/80.
Theperiod1984-1994sawtheclubcompetingintheIsthmianLeaguewhichforthe firstteamprovedaverychallengingperiodbutincontrasttheReserveunderthe managementofJohnHalliwellpickeduptwopiecesofsilverwarebywinningthe HertsIntermediateCupandtheT.V.SportsCupwithasquadofverytalentedyoung Roystonbasedplayers.
Thenext18seasonssawtheClubcompetingintheSouthMidlandsLeaguewiththe lowpointbeingin2006/07withrelegationfromthePremierLeaguetoDivision1at Step6inthenon-leaguepyramid.TheappointmentofPaulAttfieldasClubmanager atthestartof2007/08seasonprovedhighlysignificant.Paulhadpreviouslyworked fortheClubasYouth/ReserveTeammanagerandhadcontinuedtoputhisfaithin youngplayerswhichprovedtobethebedrockofhissuccessintakingtheClubtowin promotiontoStep4footballintheSouthernCentral|League.Itwasduringthisperiod thatKevinWilsonledtheReservestoaSouthMidlandsdouble,winningtheLeague ChampionshipandtheReserveChallengeCupfollowedlaterbytheSouthMidlands FloodlitReserveCupin2009/10.
Fortheseason2012-13theReserveswereelectedtotheSuburbanLeagueNorthand bywinningtheirlastthreegamestheymanagedtosnatchtheLeagueTitlebyone pointfromAshfordTown.Thefollowingseasontheywonthetitleagaininevenmore dramaticstyleovertakingTringAthleticonthelastdayoftheseasonbyagoal differenceof3!
HavingsecuredpromotiontheteamplayedforthenextsixseasonsintheSuburban PremierLeagueunderthemanagementofAidrianCambridgeuntilthechallengesof travellingtomostofourawaygamessouthoftheThamesbegantoinhibitthe recruitmentandretentionofplayers.AreturntotheHertsCountyPremierLeague provedtobeamuchmoreworkableoptionwithLewisEndacottatthehelm.Inthe season2021/22theReserveswerethelastclubtowintheAubreyCup,consideredby manytobeoneofmostprestigioustrophiesintheHertfordshirefootball. InthefollowingseasonDanEvanstookonthetaskofdevelopingamoreintegrated approachbetweenourunder18’sandtheReservesbyformingtheUnder23’swho wentontofinish4 andacceptedtheinvitationtoplayatStep6byjoiningtheSouth MidlandsDivisionOneLeague. th
Afterasuccessfulfirstseasonin23/24wherewefinishedarespectable10 position aswellasbeingtheteamofthemonthinDecember’23wehadtodealwiththeloss ofourteammanagerandseveralplayersatthestartofseason24/25.Werecovered wellafteranunderstandablydifficultstarttofinishinacommendable14 placein thetable.
Wemoveintoourthirdseasonwithanewmanagementteamafterlastseason’s manager,FrancoNacca,becameHeadCoachofourFirstTeam. Ournewmanager atthehelmisRoySmithwithassistantsSimonTapsell&ChrisGeldart,wehavean excitingyoungteamandarelookingforwardtothe25/26season.

IarrivedandthecoachwasDanielStewart,everyonecalledhima ScouseandIneverunderstoodwhatthatmeant,butonlytowards theendIaskedtheguysintheteamwhatitmeantandnowIknow exactlywhatitmeanshaha,whatcanIsayaboutthecoach,this manreallyhelpedmealot,Ipracticallydidn’thaveanyoneelse, butDantookmeonandhelpedmeonandoffthefield,Iamvery gratefultohimandwillneverforgethiskindnesstome!
Thefirstweekwasunusualforme,Iarrivedduringtheperiodbefore Christmas,weplayedafriendlywiththereservesonSaturday,I showedmyselfverywellandscoredacoupleofgoals,thisgaveme moreconfidence.AfterChristmasandtheNewYear,theseason continuedandDanbegantotrustme,heputmeinthelineupevery game.Itriedtoshowonlythebestsideofmyself,toshowwhatIam reallycapableof.AfterIplayed2-3monthsinIrchester,weshowed goodresults,butIrealizedthatIwantedtotrymyselfintheleague andateamhigher,Irchesterwasinstep6,andatthattimeDan helpedmewithateamfromstep5(Desborough).

Imovedtothatteam,playedeverygameinthe1stteam.itturnsoutI alsoplayedacoupleofmonths,butintheendIrealizedthatitwould bedifficultformetobreakthroughinEnglandduetothefactthatI hadnoconnectionshere.Iworkedinawarehouseatthesametime anditwasn’tforme,sinceinmyheadIwantedtoplayfootball professionally,ImadethedecisionthatIshouldreturntomycountry andmyteam,butIknewthatafterayearIhadtogothroughatrialin myownteamwhereIwasallmylife,sinceapresidentofaclub explainedtomethatwehaven’tseenyouforawholeyear,andwe don’tknowinwhichconditionsyouarenow,butIwillreturntothis topic,sinceIwanttotellyouaboutTheIrchesterteam.
Aftertheteamwithstep5,IdecidedtowritetoDan,thatIwantedto returntoLatvia.Itwasjustatthattime,thattheseasonwasending andIrchesterhadonelastgameleftagainstteamMoultonandDan askedmeifIwantedtoplaymylastgameinEnglandforirchester.I agreedstraightawayandcametothismatch.Weplayedthismatch well,IgavemyeverythingtoshowDanhowgratefulIamtohimfor everythinghedidformeandIamalsogratefultotheIrchesterclub fortheopportunitytoplayfortheminthebeginning.That'showmy storyatthisclubended,butthat'snotall,Ithinkyou'llbeinterestedin whathappenedtomenextandwhatI'mdoingnow.
IcamebacktoLatvia,(foratrial)atmyownclubwhereIhavebeen myalllifesinceIstartedtoplayfootball.WehadpreseasonandIhad agoodgamesIshowedmyselfreallygoodandafterthat,Iwas offeredmyfirstprofessionalcontract.IwashappyandknewImade therightdecisiontocomeback.Iplayedthewholeseason,gotinto theLatviannationalU21team,andmademydebutinthematch againstNorwayU21.itwasahugeexperienceforme.FornowIhave alsoplayedthewholeseason.inmysecondseasoninmyprofessional career,IalsomademydebutintheUEFAConferenceLeaguethis yearagainsttheteamfromAlbania,playedtwomatchesawayand home,weplayedreallygood,Igaveanassist,butunfortunatelywe didnotgothroughtothenextround.Sincethematchendednotin ourfavour,theAlbanianteamwonagainstuswithatotalscoreof54,butwedonotgiveupandourtaskistorepeatthispathinthe EuropeanCups.
ThisseasonIplayfortheLatvianU21sandplayedagainstnational teamslikeAustria,Germany,Georgia,Greece(inthismatchIplayed againstaplayerwhoplaysforthefirstteamofBrighton)andthisis onlyoneexample.Therewasalotofplayerswhoareplayingina goodlevellikeBundesliga,EnglishPremierLeagueetc.Thisisahuge experienceforme,andIcanonlysayonething-thatanythingis possible,themainthingisnotgiveupandeverythingcanworkout.
