II'm Ingrid Riera, a design student at FIU This project holds a special place in my heart because I've always had a passion for music I started playing violin when I was just 7 years old! Transitioning from 12 years of music to a new career path was a big leap.
Today, getting to discover every imaginable way to make music learning more enjoyable and accessible for the blind and visually impaired confirms for me that I can find joy in design, music, and helping others.
Thank you for taking the time to review this project,
Ingrid

LOSSOFPERIPHERAL (SIDE)VISION
The purpose of this project is to explore innovative design solutions to better navigational wayfinding methos for those with low vision and/or blind
We seek to promote an environment that is aesthetically pleasing, functional, and inspirational for the artists who will come learn at this facility
By incorporating elements of touch, sound, and lighting, the music conservatory seeks to establish an ideal environment The goal is to create an interactive learning space where students feel confident enough to set aside their canes, experience a sense of safety, and allow the power of music to inspire and engage them

A stepper motor is a type of electric motor that moves or "steps" in preciseincrements Unlike regular motors that spin continuously, a stepper motor moves in discretestepsorpositions Each step is a small, fixed movement determined by the motor's design
The idea started with the pianos’s interior architecture

Blind and visually impaired musicians often face challenges in playing chambermusic due to difficulties in visuallycoordinating with other musicians and accessingvisualcues, which are essential for ensemble coordination and synchronization
A hapticbatonsystem for blind musicians is a technology that utilizes sensors and actuators to provide tactilefeedback(on the floor), allowing them to feeltherhythm, tempo, anddynamicsofthemusic on their feet This system enhances accessibility and empowersvisually impaired musicians to effectively interpretand guide musical performances through touch.

This technology synchronizeslights with the audio, creating a dynamic visual display that responds in realtime to changes in the music's rhythm, tempo, and intensity. Changes in lighting were intentionally designed for students to have anothercue in the environment to improve confidence in their performance

Each floor mat features a distinct texture and Braille code, aiding students in identifying the corresponding office Additionally, door handles are equipped with Braille labels, complementing the room tags for seamless navigation
