Cricket at Ipswich School
National success for girls’ cricket

Highlights of the 2023 season were the U17 girls and U18 girls teams, who were both crowned National T20 Champions, following the success of the girls’ U15 team winning the T20 nationals in 2021 and 2022.
Brilliant team performances saw the U17 girls beat Forest School by 8 wickets and the U18 girls beat Canford School by 9 wickets in their respective finals.
Our U13 girls finished the season as county cup winners and also finished third in the ECB Indoor finals played at Lord’s. It’s the first time that the school has had a U13 side make the Lady Taverners indoor finals day.
So, another year of huge progression for the sport of girls cricket at Ipswich School.

The U12 boys and U14 boys were both crowned County Champions and will progress to the national competitions next season in 2024.

Cricket at Ipswich School
At Ipswich School we run an inclusive and aspirational cricket programme which operates over three terms and continues to achieve regional and national success.
Our programme is led by former South African international cricketer, Nicky Boje, who is assisted by a team of highly experienced and qualified coaching professionals.

The aims of the programme are to provide every pupil, whether new to the game or on the current performance pathway, with a positive and meaningful experience through a balanced mix of high quality training and match provision.
Through 1:1, small group and team practices, pupils are afforded the time and opportunity to develop their technical ability and skill development as well as enhance a greater understanding of the tactical and lifestyle elements required to improve and succeed at various levels in the game.
We are immensely proud of the many successes our pupils have achieved over the last few years. Most recently the U17 and U18 girls both achieved national T20 championship titles, whilst we have also been national indoor finalists and won a number of county championships too.

Our facilities
At Notcutts, a short walk from the main school site, the extensive playing fields are used for cricket fixtures in the summer term.
Our 1st XI Cricket Square at the Henley Road main school site has hosted first class games and is home to two annual Suffolk county cricket 1st team fixtures.
The sports hall has a viewing gallery and newly refurbished indoor cricket gallery. There is also a gym on-site.
We believe that athletic development and analysis lie at the core of individual and team development and as such we use Catapult Vision and GPS trackers for our focus sport analysis, through a partnership with HUDL.
Our school
Ipswich School is the top independent school in Suffolk and one of the top ten in East Anglia (Sunday Times Parent Power).
Founded circa 1399, it has a long-standing educational heritage and is the only school to be mentioned in one of Shakespeare’s plays.
Our students achieve excellent examination results and progress to top Russell Group universities, including Oxbridge. Most importantly, our students are happy – reaching their potential, supported by outstanding pastoral care and part of our friendly community.
Ipswich School offers bus routes across East Anglia, bursaries and scholarships, and options for weekly boarding.
Our boarding houses are situated in historic grounds in the centre of Ipswich and neighbour Christchurch Park.
The school is located close to the Suffolk heritage coast and is within an hour of London Stansted Airport, as well as the cities of London, Cambridge and Norwich.
Academic provision
Tutors keep a close eye on each individual student to ensure that they balance their activities and are happy and fulfilled. In the Sixth Form our offer expands to new A Level subjects not taught at GCSE level, such as Economics and Psychology, as well as a BTEC in Sport and Exercise Science.
In 2023, over 1 in 5 pupils achieved grades 9-7 in all their GCSE exams, and 63% of GCSE exams were graded 9-7. 100% of students achieved 5 or more GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and Maths.
At A Level, over 80% of exams were graded A*-B, with over 1 in 6 graded A*, and we had a 100% pass in all 26 subjects offered at A Level. In addition, 70% of our BTEC students achieved Distinction or higher

“
My 1:1 cricket sessions have really helped me improve my own game. They have helped me but also my team mates and together we have won two national trophies in two years, taking girls’ cricket at Ipswich School to the next level.
“
Girls’ cricket at Ipswich School has improved so much over the last few years. The quality of coaching is excellent and the standard of play gets better every year. I am very proud to part of it.
