Sample preparation is a key step in obtaining representative test results. Analytical accuracy is greatly diminished due to incorrect sample preparation, even if proper sampling has been done. It is important that a truly representative analytical sample is obtained for precise analysis.
The new sample preparation facility is equipped with primary and secondary crushers, vibratory disc mill, sieve shaker, sample divider, calibrated sieves, balances and ovens and will primarily cater to the major miners and traders of limestone, clinker, chrome, ferrochrome, copper concentrate, etc. Plans are in place to add more equipment to further reduce manual intervention, increase capacity and improve turnaround time.

TECHNOLOGY REPORT: SENSOR DATA AVAILABLE GLOBALLY – BEYOND THE LOCAL COMPANY CLOUD
Data recording and its networking can potentially give rise to new business models.
Making sensor data and information from different sources available globally and linking this data and information in a meaningful way – this is the crux of Industry 4.0. New business ideas make it necessary to make this information globally available and accessible not only within a company but also beyond the boundaries of the company and its location.
ensors are the eyes and ears of automation technology and provide a wide variety of information concerning the current condition of a machine or system, e.g. about position, pressure and temperature, etc. The diverseness of the information reflects the huge number of sources used. Ultimately, however, the focus in the case of Industry 4.0 is: How is it possible to access this data and information from different sources, to link it in a meaningful way, to aggregate it and to make it available globally? On the one hand, there is information that is generated at field or control level. On the other hand, there is information that needs to be managed centrally, e.g. in MES or ERP systems. The main issue here is that the information to be linked must not only be available and accessible within a company or location, but must frequently also be exchanged beyond location boundaries in order to acquire new information.

Data in the classic automation pyramid flows from one level to the next: sensors or actuators at the field level communicate with the higher-level control only; the machine control exchanges its data with Production Planning which in turn exchanges data with the company's ERP. These system transitions present an obstacle as they usually filter data. To overcome and functionally develop these obstacles is usually very time-consuming and costly – in practice this is achieved using gateways or protocol converters. The elimination of this obstacle must therefore be the primary objective of all Industry 4.0 activities. In the majority of all production processes, it will not be possible to fully overcome these obstacles because production processes are performed at an extremely high cycle rate or precisely defined sequences have to be observed. Solutions for deterministic communication between participants at field level through to ERP systems in an open architecture are currently being developed.
Networking replaces hierarchical automation.
In the past, point-to-point connections between the control unit and the respective sensor or actuator have dominated industrial automation. A master-slave communication model is currently dominant. This means that a control
unit usually serves multiple end devices via one cable in linear topology (fieldbus installation). The use of new technologies will allow a transition to a netlike or star-shaped communication architecture, which we already know from the IT sector. By connecting the automation network (OT) and IT network of a company, it will be possible to exchange data between all levels and in all directions. To link and, in particular, evaluate this data, it is essential that it is current or is given a dedicated time reference and has a specific, e.g. geographical, reference. Leuze electronic initially actively tackled the subject of data availability and has for the first time transferred data directly, across all system boundaries, from the sensor to the cloud. For this purpose, Leuze electronic integrated an OPC UA server in its sensor and docked onto the Microsoft Azure Cloud with the publisher-subscriber model. Whereas OPC UA communication is currently based on a client-server architecture in which the recipient determines the data volume and the frequency of data exchange, the publishsubscribe method is preferred for communication with cloud applications because here, although the recipient (subscriber) selects the data to be transferred, it is the producer (publisher) that is responsible for distributing the data at the necessary or, from an application perspective, appropriate points in time – similar to a newsletter. Leuze electronic has extended this transition by the IoT Proxy from Microsoft to enable data transfer universally in all directions. The proxy now makes it possible to analogically operate
Furthermore, a central pool which can be addressed directly from different sources is formed parallel to the existing transfer processes. For this purpose, many companies set up a “private cloud” or “edge cloud” on an internal server or a private tenant in the cloud on which the access permissions are kept completely“private”at first. If, as part of new business ideas and models, it becomes necessary to make individual items of information available to other companies, locations or clouds, this information can be exchanged between different tenants, taking specific usage authorizations into consideration. The cloud capacities are scalable and allow large quantities of data to be recorded – even data for which it is not currently clear whether and which knowledge can be derived from it or whether it can be used at a later time to generate benefits or even business cases. The primary objective is therefore to first record data from a wide variety of different sources, to aggregate this data and to make it available. The next step is to link the data. It will only later become clear whether this data can potentially be used for new business models. Metaphorically speaking, we are currently constructing a highway on which goods can be transported at a later stage and to which we can then attach business cases. At the moment no one knows exactly where this highway will lead.

The difference to the classic solutions is that the IIoT concepts rely on globally available data. Therefore, the data can also be networked globally across systems and company borders for interpretation and evaluation purposes. This global data availability immediately raises the question of data integrity. It is an inevitably accepted prerequisite that data integrity must be ensured on communication channels and in globally available systems. OPC UA is tested in line with the federal institute for security and information technology and offers all four generally stipulated safety features for secure communication: Authentication, authorization, verification and encryption. In this way, tested methods and procedures from the world of information technology (IT) are transferred into the world of automation technology (OT – Operations Technology). This can be subsumed under the expression “ITgoesOT”. Future authentication will take place using certificates. In the future, sensors from Leuze electronic will therefore be equipped with a unique safety certificate in addition to the identification data to date such as their serial number. To consistently structure the availability of information, detection and addressing of data sources has to be made possible across all system borders from the cloud. This does not entail making unprotected access possible but rather 14 | Industry EMEA | April 2018
simplifies the installation. It is not practicable to manually publicize a large number of edge devices (e.g. sensors and actuators) to a global cloud system, or to register them in the cloud system. Instead technological mechanisms are required, which make it possible for the cloud system to autonomously identify edge devices that are centrally assigned to it. These mechanisms are called global discovery functionalities. There are two different mechanisms, which are integral parts of the OPC UA standard: Local discovery mechanisms (Local Discovery Server) on the one hand, and on the other hand global discovery mechanisms (Global Directory Server). Both of them require an extensive certificate exchange (Trust List Type) to safeguard access. As the interfaces to the control systems are increasingly Ethernet-based and therefore powerful enough to serve two data channels simultaneously, this is opening up completely new possibilities – and it is exactly these possibilities that are needed for the networked world of Industry 4.0 in order to transfer data to different destinations and levels. Leuze electronic has been following this trend for a long time and decided early on to integrate direct fieldbus access in its complex ident devices and measuring sensors. With two data channels the basis for this is available – through DualChannel IO-Link in the case of less complex sensors and through the integrated fieldbus interface with addition TCP/ IP channel in the integratedconnectivity devices identified by the red i in their type designation.

Taking the example of its code readers, which are typically mounted at a conveyor belt and have to read the bar codes on a passing package, Leuze electronic has demonstrated that the optical (normally invisible) measurement field of the sensor can be displayed during the ongoing process. And that's not all: By connecting to the cloud, the reading result – OK, NOK, code content – can be visualized in the data glasses immediately after each reading operation so that the commissioning engineer or the service employee can check the system's condition online. The use of new technologies is not just limited to complex devices such as code readers or positioning sensors. Simple triggering photoelectric sensors are also being increasingly integrated in future predictive maintenance concepts in order to safeguard machine and system availability. A first step was made with additional warning messages, e.g. when a sensor becomes soiled. This was soon accompanied by a range of configuration options for the sensors via a simple interface. In this context, IO-Link has now become indispensable because this simple 3-wire interface offers all the functions needed for new IIoT concepts but can still be integrated at low cost even in extremely small devices. Particularly worthy of mention here is the dual-channel variant with one channel for the binary switching signals for process mode with a high level of time determinism (i.e. realtime), and a second channel for access to identification and parameter data and messages from the sensors.

his innovative infrastructure consists of two EV Chargers and one is from Delta Fast EV Charger, with capacity of 50 kW currently, but scalable up to 150kW and a BESS that can store 52 kWh of energy and dispense up to 60 kW of power to efficiently manage its impact on the electricity grid. High system efficiency is facilitated through our DEEMS (Delta Efficient Energy Management Solutions) platform, which oversees the available grid power and communicates with the BESS and EV chargers. This success case demonstrates the unique capabilities of Delta’s diversified solutions in assisting smart grid infrastructure for sustainable cities.

The project was installed at the Avion Shopping Mall in Bratislava, Slovakia earlier this year. Key to the success of the project is the unique modularity of Delta’s Fast EV Charger. If the operator of the EV charger wants to increase the power from fast charging to ultra-fast, the simple introduction of additional modules permits possible expansion in 10 kW steps from 50 to 150 kW DC (belonging to the highest commercially available DC chargers on the market). This modular solution is also highly cost-efficient as it reduces the need to invest in additional higher-power EV charging stations. Conventional fast-charging stations draw their electricity directly from the energy grid. However, this new system draws energy from either the BESS or the grid, or both. Moreover, the battery can be recharged from the grid during lower-price off-peak hours, or from a local renewable source such as a solar panels. The DEEMS platform monitors energy from the grid and provides a boost from the BESS whenever needed. Furthermore, via remote control and configuration software, it is possible to monitor the activities of charging stations on a 24-hour basis. Wireline and wireless connectivity (Ethernet, 3G, GPRS) are available, while
local and remote authentication and billing offer further potential. The entire system is built on open architecture, so there are no proprietary structures. Importantly, Delta’s fast charging technology can provide energy for up to four EVs simultaneously (up to two DC ports, plus up to two in AC), dramatically reducing the total investment, the queuing time for users and the on-site space requirements. When only one EV is DC-charged, this takes all the available power. However, as soon as additional EVs are connected, the power of the charger is automatically and dynamically split among all the charging EVs. When configured to provide 150kW of output, it allows users to charge up to a 100 km range in just 10 minutes. This fully certified product has already been successfully deployed across Europe, including Norway, Spain, Sweden, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Slovakia and Finland, demonstrating its reliability under very different climatic conditions. The unit features all-weather buttons and display. Delta Charger is also the only product of its type to offer an optional 1000 VDC output voltage range. As a result, the product can operate in two DC voltage ranges: 170-550 and 340-1000 VDC. In accordance with the vehicle to be charged, the right voltage range is automatically prepared for administration. The rise of battery-powered electric vehicles (EVs) will entail the development of a vast amount of new infrastructure, particularly charging stations, which in turn demands the adoption of an EV ecosystem strategy in cities around the world. Many major cities are today looking to expand the access to home and workplace charging, improve the public charging network and integrate EV infrastructure into core city processes.

The game-changing potential of this technology not only concerns better local energy management, but on-site renewable energy generation and storage by so-called ‘prosumers’ – those who both produce and consume their own energy. When similar systems are deployed in larger numbers they would be able to deliver flexible storage capacity to the whole energy grid. This “smart grid“ concept would stabilise the grid, support the integration of more renewable sources into the energy system and potentially enable society to change from the current system where a large, centralised energy utility generates electricity and sells it to consumers. Companies such as Aller Aqua, which produces both freshwater and saltwater fish feed, is constantly looking for ways to improve its production technology and processes to benefit from this growth. Operating from headquarters at Christiansfeld, near Kolding, Denmark, Aller Aqua has been established for over 50 years and today has factories in Denmark, Poland, Germany and Egypt, exporting products to more than 60 countries worldwide.
The company has a broad product range, consisting of feed for 30 species of fish. As a result, production schedules are demanding, which is why the company sought to maximise its potential gains when the DC motor on one of the company’s main extruders at Christiansfeld had to be replaced.
“Aller Aqua had a particular interest in energy efficiency for its new motor solution as extruding feed stuff is a very energy-intensive process,”explained Carl Erik Niemann, Sales Engineer - Drives & Motors Technology at Nidec Industrial Automation Denmark A/S. “They knew this would help boost both competitiveness and sustainable development.” After a comprehensive evaluation of the market, the company opted for a 310 kW (2400 rpm) Dyneo® permanent magnet synchronous motor. Offering an efficiency level exceeding IE4 requirements, this option will enable the saving of at least 135,000 kWh of electricity per year. “Beyond energy performance, Aller Aqua is now able to benefit from significant savings in maintenance costs, allied to increased machine availability,” said Mr Niemann. “The previous DC motor featured a brush and collector system, which comprised wear parts.” The implementation of the Dyneo® motor also allowed local service centre Ølgod Elektro to simplify the existing

wo EUROBLOC VT5 crab units are deployed atop two 35-tonne double-girder cranes that were designed, manufactured and installed by VERLINDE’s UK agent, Pelloby. The investment represents the next stage of a drive to upgrade older lifting systems following a similar Pelloby installation at the plant in December 2015 (also featuring VERLINDE EUROBLOC VT electric hoist technology).
The latest double-girder cranes have large total span of 21.8m and provide 9.8m height of lift. Each girder runs off different gantry rails at separate locations within the press shop. The end carriages are fitted with anti-collision/ slowdown units that eliminate the possibility of the system coming into contact with a neighbouring crane by shutting down the power once they enter a predefined distance of one another.
VERLINDE’s EUROBLOC VT5 electric wire-rope hoist crab units feature digital load displays and true vertical lift, which prevents any lateral movement for improved hoisting performance. Offering 40-tonne load capacity with 15mm galvanized wire rope, the hoist is driven by a 35kW motor to provide a hoisting speed of 8.20/0.16m/min, while the trolley is able to travel at a speed of 32.0/8.00m/min. A radio control transmitter is used to oversee system motion. Pelloby has also been contracted to provide a series of follow-up service visits over the 48-month period following installation. For ease of maintenance, both sides of the cranes were fitted with a walkway running along the entire span. In addition, a Metreel safe-wire fall arrest system was fitted to both walkways on each crane as a precautionary feature in the event of an accident. Even the access gate on the 1.1m safety rail has a self-closing mechanism. Emergency stop buttons are accessible on the walkways to allow engineers to shut down the movement of the crane or hoist crab unit manually if needed, while to improve visibility, both cranes feature five LED floodlights.
