A long road towards universal protection against enforced disappearance

Abstract The approval of the International Convention for the Protection of all Persons from Enforced Disappearance, by the United Nations General Assembly in late December 2006, has been presented as a major achievement. This article explores roots and specifics of this Convention, and highlights its relevance and the impact it can be anticipated to have on the ground.
