Fundraising for Nonprofits – NEW! Developing effective fundraising strategies are essential to creating a sustainable non-profit organization. Mastering Presentations and Public Speaking Presenting in front of an audience is one of the best ways to earn respect and share your ideas. However, many professionals either fear public speaking or lack the skills to present effectively. This two-session course is designed to help you overcome each of these challenges. Beginner's Guide to Reading and Understanding Financial Statements If you can read a nutrition label or baseball box score, you can learn to read basic financial statements; you don’t need to be an accountant. Whether you're a new investor, a small business owner, or executive, you should know that the real language of business lies within accounting, inside the financial statements and reporting system. BUSINESS/MANAGEMENT LSAT Exam Prep – NEW!

Energy, Economics, and the Environment This teacher workshop is co-sponsored by The Indiana Council for Economic Education, Purdue University Fort Wayne Center for Economic Education, and AEP's Indiana Michigan Power operations.

This workshop will prepare participants to understand the interaction between energy and economic growth, to identify trade-offs that exist between energy and the environment, to recognize externalities that arise in the economy, and to appreciate the issues involved in regulating the electricity generating industry.

Various speakers from AEP and other agencies will provide guest lectures and a field trip will visit coal-fired and hydroelectric power in plants in Indiana.

This course has a credit or non-credit option. The registration cost for existing teacher license holders or those seeking to renew their licenses is reduced due to the generous support of our program partners. There is a $600 tuition scholarship for teachers who choose to take the workshop for credit. This course is available for 3 undergraduate credits or 3 graduate credits. Are you creative and technical? Then the Web Design Basics Certificate may be just what you need to boost your career, learn a new hobby, or take up a side gig. Featuring a total of four classes, this certificate will prepare beginners to make their client’s vision for a website a reality. You’ll learn everything from coding basics to adding media elements and embedded forms.

Job opportunities for web designers and developers are expected to grow 27% by 2024. If you’re just looking for a side gig, freelance web designers typically charge about $75 per hour resulting in an average of $6,760 per project (with set up, design, build, and creation for a basic website). Professional Certificate in Digital Media So, you’re pretty good with a camera, but you know you could learn so much more about shooting techniques and editing. Maybe you have an interest in web design or video production, but you don’t want to get a four-year degree. The Professional Certificate in Digital Media offers a unique opportunity to build a certificate around your interests. Whether you’re looking for a career change or to pick up a side job, this certificate will give you the credentials necessary to market your talents.

When calculated into hourly rates, a freelance photographer charges on average between $150 and $250 per hour depending on expertise and credentials. While rates vary, a freelance videographer charges on average about $20 per hour to film and an additional $40-$150 per hour for editing.

This workshop will provide an overview of our native pollinators and offer techniques that we can use to lure them to work for us in our gardens, while also providing season-appropriate habitats for them in our outdoor spaces.

The bird is the word this spring. Who are our native birds? What do they eat? What steps can we take to invite them into our garden spaces? This workshop will offer an overview of Indiana bird life and provide you with tips and techniques to expand your bird-friendly habitat.

Middle School Writing Camp

All three Appleseed youth writing camps will include the following: • Writing in a variety of genres (poetry, story writing, narratives) • E ngaging activities and collaboration (choosing a topic, sustained writing time, revising, editing, publishing, and sharing) • Understanding the writing process (in a variety of writing contexts) • L earning in a supportive environment under the tutelage of experienced writing teachers (but without the concern of earning a grade)

Institute of Reading Development In the programs for children (four-years-old through fifth grade), students have fun while learning phonics and word-attack skills, building fluency and comprehension, and becoming confident readers. Your child will be excited about books and reading and will be prepared for a great start in the upcoming school year.

In the programs for adolescents (sixth grade and up), students improve reading comprehension in both fiction and non-fiction works while doubling their reading speed. Students earn better grades in school by learning the best way to read and study textbooks, take notes, and study for tests.

The focus of the adult program (twelfth grade through adult) is to improve reading efficiency. To that end, eye tracking exercises, retention techniques, and systematic analytical approaches are taught.

4 years of age through Grade 5:

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

This full-day certification course trains instructors to teach QPR for Suicide Prevention to their community.

Participants first learn about the nature of suicidal communications, what forms these communications take, and how they may be used as the stimulus for a QPR intervention. To gain perspective, participants are introduced to the history of suicide, suicide prevention, and the spectrum of modern-day public health suicide prevention education efforts. The history, background, and research support for QPR are reviewed. Participants then learn to market QPR, target potential gatekeepers, and how to teach the QPR curriculum.

Classroom locations — Information is emailed to students. The information desks in Kettler Hall and Walb Student Union can help you identify the building and room where your class will be meeting. The Police and Safety office also has access to room information.

Parking — You do not need a permit to park in any student parking area on the Purdue Fort Wayne campus.

However, “A” lots (green lines) are open parking after 5 p.m. and on weekends.

Policy on Minors — Approved Continuing Studies courses are open to minors ages 14 and 15 when a parent or guardian is also a paid registrant in the course. The American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR & AED class is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages, including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) and relief of foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO). The First Aid course trains laypersons on assessments and skills that can be performed with minimal equipment until emergency medical personnel arrive. A CPR Completion Card will be distributed following completion of the class.

Inclement weather — If bad weather forces the closing of campus, classes will not meet. Make-up meetings will be scheduled as needed.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) — A CEU is a nationally recognized measurement of professional development training and continuing education in specialty areas. Typically, 10 instructional contact hours are required for one (1.0) CEU, where a contact hour is 50 minutes of instruction.

CEUs do not apply to college degree requirements.
