By examining American art and artifacts from the Cleveland Museum of Art’s collection, this series promotes discussion on America’s national character and heritage. Join any or all 5 series installments to explore American art throughout time from the 1700’s up to 2000.

Email us at learn@pfw.edu Ceramics: Soda Fired Pottery What is soda firing? It’s a solution of baking soda and water introduced into a natural gas-powered kiln at peak temperature.

The sodium interacts with the clay, glazing the pots, and creating a unique glazed/flashed surface. This class will focus on making various pottery forms intended to be fired in the soda kiln.

Participants will learn to how to glaze and prepare pottery for soda firings, as well as learn how to load and fire the kiln. The course will consist of demonstrations and open studio work time for participants.

ON Seth Green, instructor CAMPUS $329 fee includes some materials Ceramics: Batter Bowls and Gravy Boats – NEW! This class will focus on learning to make batter bowls and gravy boats.

Demonstrations will include making wheel-thrown, slab-built, and pulled spouts, and other finishing and glazing techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to practice these new skills and make their own pouring vessels to glaze fire to completion.

Ceramics: Tea Bowls and Tumblers – NEW! If you are looking for an opportunity to learn how make tea bowls and tumblers and improve your wheel throwing skills, this is the class for you! The course will focus on wheel throwing and trimming drinking vessels. Demonstrations and one-on-one instruction will be included.

Participants will have the opportunity to make, glaze, and finish pots, as well as make other pottery forms during open lab times. The summer session provides additional lab time for students to work on their projects.

Gardening for Native Pollinators There are over 4,000 native pollinator species in North America that depend upon our gardens and landscapes for food and resources, just as we depend on them.

Gain an overview of our native pollinators and offer techniques that we can use to lure them to work for us in our gardens, while also providing season-appropriate habitats for them in our outdoor spaces.

CPR/AED/First Aid The American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR & AED Training Class is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages, including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO). A CPR certification card will be distributed following successful completion of the class.

Choose the option that best meets your needs: CPR/AED/First Aid - $70 (4 hours), CPR/AED only - $50 (3 hours) Fee includes materials.
