alspar Corporation, a company based in Minneapolis (MN), USA, finalised the acquisition of Inver Holding Srl, and therefore of the whole Inver Group, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of industrial liquid and powder coatings, on August, 1st 2013. With $ 4 billion of global sales (as of 2012) of which 48% is generated outside of the United States, more than 10,000 employees and operations in 25 countries, Valspar is the 5th global supplier of paints. Valspar’s mission is to supply its customers around the world with the latest technological innovations, the highest quality and the best customer service in the entire industry of paints as well as liquid and powder coatings. On the one hand, it has an intensive investment program in the emerging markets (India, Brazil, China and South East Asia), while, on the other one, it provides an ongoing support and a constant presence in the established markets, with a very strong focus on the low environmental impact and the low VOC content of its products. The acquisition of Inver, a leader in the sectors of waterborne and powder coating systems, is part of a development strategy aimed at strengthening the presence and the service of Valspar in the European countries, especially towards the general industrial customers, and at focusing on eco-friendly technologies. The largest share (2.2 billion) of Valspar’s global sales comes from the field of coatings intended for the general, packaging, coil coating and wood industries. The rest of the sales is achieved in the fields of mural painting, DIY and automotive refinish (1.6 billion), while a smaller percentage refers to special products such as polymers and colorants. By tradition, Inver is an Italian leader in the supply of industrial liquid and powder coatings, with extensive experience in different manufacturing environments. In particular, the Bologna-based company has a history of research and development on water-borne coatings that dates back to the early 1970s. Nowadays, Inver offers a wide range of water-borne primers, enamels and additives, and has recently developed some coating systems with near zero VOC content (see ipcm® Vol. 3, no. 15, May-June 2012 pags. 30-31), ensuring excellent quality and higher chemical resistance. The integration of the product range offered by Inver with that of Valspar will enable this new industrial business to provide the architectural, transportation, agricultural machinery, construction machinery, earthmoving machinery, anti-corrosion, and energy industries worldwide with high quality water-based, solvent-based, high solid, powder, and electrodeposition products and innovative technologies. Con 4 miliardi di dollari di vendite globali (dato 2012), di cui il 48% generate al di fuori degli Stati Uniti, oltre 10.000 dipendenti e operazioni in 25 paesi, Valspar è il 5° fornitore globale di vernici. La missione di Valspar è trasferire ai propri clienti nel mondo le ultime innovazioni tecnologiche, la qualità più alta e il miglior servizio clienti dell’intera industria delle pitture e delle vernici liquide e in polvere. Se da un lato Valspar segue un intenso programma di investimento nei mercati emergenti (India, Brasile, Cina e Sud Est Asiatico), dall’altro fornisce un continuo supporto e una presenza costante suo mercati consolidati, con un focus molto forte sul basso impatto ambientale e i sistemi con ridotto COV. Dei 4 miliardi di dollari di vendite globali, Valspar realizza la quota maggiore (2,2 miliardi) nel settore dei rivestimenti per i settori general industry, packaging, coil coating e legno. Il resto delle vendite è realizzato nel settore delle pitture murali, fai-da-te e delle vernici per carrozzeria (1,6 miliardi), mentre una percentuale minore si riferisce a prodotti speciali come polimeri e coloranti. Per storia e tradizione, Inver è leader italiana nella fornitura di vernici liquide e in polvere per i mercati industriali, con una grande esperienza in ambienti produttivi diversi. In particolare, l’azienda di Bologna vanta una storia di ricerca e sviluppo sulle vernici all’acqua che risale ai primi anni 70. Oggi il portfolio Inver comprende una vasta gamma di primer, smalti e additivi a base acqua mentre di recente sviluppo sono i sistemi di verniciatura con contenuto di COV vicino allo zero (vedi ipcm® Vol. 3, n. 15, Maggio-Giugno 2012 pagg. 30-31), che vantano eccellente qualità, e superiori prestazioni di resistenza chimica.
