2025 was an exciting year at IPC as you will see in the pages that follow. From mission to worship to discipleship to stewardship, our church was humming on all cylinders.
Our stewardship campaign was incredibly successful. Not only did we increase the number of pledges for the first time in many years, but we exceeded our pledge goal and finished the year in strong financial shape. Thank you all! I’m amazed at what this church can do when it sets its mind to it. In the spring, we launched the IPC Now & Forever Legacy Giving Campaign to raise money for our endowments to ensure the financial health and stability of our church for generations to come. We are grateful for all who have already committed to this important goal and continue to welcome all those who want to be a part of what God is up to here at IPC.
Last year we continued this congregation’s commitment to the mission of Jesus Christ around the world. Not only did we send missionaries back to Chiapas, Mexico, but we also took a group to western North Carolina to work on hurricane relief. We were some of the first people into the area to help with the rebuilding efforts, and it was an incredibly rewarding experience. We also completed and dedicated new playgrounds for our children, one of which was named after our past beloved Children’s Director, the late Cindy Coulter.
2025 was our first year with the new smaller Session, which had 42 adults for many years but is now at 24. Not only has this allowed our meetings to be more intimate and effective, it has also made it possible for the elders to get to know one another better.
It was a year of loss for our congregation as we said farewell to a significant number of members who graduated to the Church Triumphant. At the same time, we continued to attract visitors and new members of all ages. Rebecca and I have greatly enjoyed having each new member class for dinner at our house.

On the staff front, we saw the retirements of Cindy Shaw, after 18 years as our assistant engagement and assimilation coordinator, and Beth Grauel, after 33 years as our church accountant. We also brought in some homegrown talent in Marion Dukes to be our new Director of the Children’s Fresh Air Farm, a role she has jumped into with energy, creativity, and passion. The future of the Farm looks very bright.
It is hard to believe that this is the fifth annual report since I became your pastor. In many ways, it still feels like we just got here. But the Long family is still amazed at God’s goodness and providence in bringing us to this church. We love our IPC church family and feel so blessed to be in Birmingham. We look forward to many more years of good ministry together here in the Magic City as we seek to follow our risen Savior into a future filled with hope.
In Christ, Kevin
Kevin J. Long, IPC Pastor/Head of Staff

Young Professionals gathered regularly throughout the year for learning, fellowship, and creative connection. In the fall, the group met for Sunday school led by various church leaders, exploring how daily work and vocation connect to God’s call in the world, followed by a spring study of the book of Romans that encouraged shared theological reflection. Beyond Sunday mornings, Whimsy Wednesdays and other social gatherings created welcoming spaces for art, conversation, and relationshipbuilding across the congregation.

This year marked the joyful formation of a new young parents group, In the Trenches, offering community, encouragement, and mutual support during a demanding season of life. The group met monthly for shared meals, fellowship, play dates, and congregational events that welcomed children and caregivers alike. Young parents also launched a new Sunday school class, Faithful Parenting, creating space to reflect together on raising children in faith while navigating the realities of family life and strengthening connections among families.

In 2025, the Deacons continued their ministry of care and hospitality within the IPC community.
Through the Just Checking-In initiative, Deacons reached out to church members to offer connection, ensure needs were being met, and provide support where possible. They also shared in fellowship beyond IPC through service projects.
In addition to these efforts, Deacons faithfully carried out their ongoing Hospitality Ministry, serving as greeters and ushers at weekly worship services and special programs throughout the year. They were also present in welcoming the congregation at the fall kick-off breakfast marking the beginning of the Sunday School year.
Congregational Care and the Deacon Board hosted a wonderful Spring-O Bingo with Ice Cream Floats for all residents at Kirkwood on Sunday, May 4.
