Musical Theatre 2 Week Sessions Session 1: June 10 - June 22 Session 2: July 1 - July 13 6th grade+ Directors: Lenni Stone & Max Moreno

About this Course: ICON's musical theatre workshop offers intensive programming for all levels! Students are divided by age for daily singing, acting, and dance classes to work on foundational and technical work. The youngest groups focus on learning dramatic and improvisational skills as an ensemble. Older groups focus on professional level musical and scene study.

Within this workshop, ICON includes exceptional masterclasses with special guests artists from Broadway. Afternoons are spent putting our training to use in rehearsals for a final showcase, which will feature all participants.

About this Course: Are you interested in what it's like to be an ICON? Come and see what Iowa Conservatory is all about! Engage in a little of everything we offer: theatre, music, dance, visual arts, and design and production! Each day you will work with our faculty on a project that will bring out your artistic brilliance.

Singer Songwriter 2 Week Session July 29 - August 10 9th grade+ Director: Max Moreno

About this Course: Designed for singersongwriters who are interested in fully immersing themselves in the art of songwriting.

Discussions, workshops with local and remote songwriters, jam sessions, and mini-projects will culminate in a final performance of the compositions in the James Theater. Basic knowledge of music theory and basic guitar or piano skills are required. No prior songwriting experience required.

Drawing & Painting 2 Week Session June 10 - June 22 8th grade+

About this Course: For those interested in visual arts, this is an opportunity to seriously dive into your passion and spend your days in the studio. Learn techniques and fundamentals in the mornings, and spend your afternoons learning about expression and artistic choices as you design a large (4+ feet) project that you will present at the end of your session.

About this Course: For budding artists looking to explore more in depth in the art studio and expand their knowledge of techniques and media. Each day of this week-long course will feature a different media. Drawing, Sculpture, Painting, Printmaking and Mixed-Media.

Illustration & Graphic Novel 2 Week Session July 29 - August 10 8th grade+ Director: Kyle Powell

About this Course: For artists looking to combine their storytelling and drawing. Your mornings will include projects to develop your drawing skills, and sense of communicating through your design and mark making choices. Afternoons will focus on your character and story development leading to a finished product. This is a drawing and design class that will use a traditional approach of pencil, pen, and gouache or colored pencil. By the end of the 2 week session, students will have completed a short graphic novel.

Lighting Design 2 Week Session

About this Course: This intensive is for passionate students at all levels of experience who are ready to learn how lighting can enhance a show. Focus on lighting design as a discipline of theatrical design, program an ETC Ion or Element with ETCs 3-D Augmented reality software, and learn how to use lighting to tell a story and enhance costumes.

Students in this course design lights for the fashion show that is produced at the end of the Wearable Art Camp.

Theatre Design & Production 2 Week Session July 1 - July 13 8th grade+

About this Course: Learn all aspects of design and production to assist with your high school theatre shows and beyond! The first week, students will focus on a different role in design & production each day. The second week, they will choose their "major" and participate in that role from stage managing to costume design, culminating in a showcase in conjunction with the July Musical Theatre Workshop.

Wearable Art: The Technique of Fashion & Costume Design 2 Week Session July 15 - July 27 8th grade+

About this Course: Study the art of fashion and costume design at ICON! Learn fashion history, how to design a garment from process to product, learn how to communicate with other designers and directors, master basic garment construction, and build garment designs.

Student will design and build a fashion collection featured in a fashion show at the end of the session.

Classical Dance 2 Week Session June 10 - June 22 7th grade+

About this Course: Iowa Conservatory's classical dance intensive is open to serious dancers 5th - 12th grades, preparing them for the next step in their dance education or their career. This intensive serves as a stepping stone for classical dance students that are looking to make the jump into pre-professional or professional programs all over the country. The connections students make with faculty are invaluable and lead students to interact with some of the most respected names in the industry.

Contemporary & Jazz Dance 2 Week Session July 15 - July 27 7th grade+ Director: Leslie Nolte

About this Course: Iowa Conservatory's contemporary and jazz dance intensive is for serious dancers pursuing rigorous training in the expansive and current dance industry. Dancers build their capacity for a variety of work in the areas of video, film, and live music dance settings. Dancers explore specific choreographers' styles while also building their own creative portfolio. Collaborating with expert teacher artists, students will focus on both technique and improvisation.
