Iola High School’s graduating class of 2016 learned more than the “Three R’s” during its years within USD 257, Abigail Taylor said Sunday. Taylor, voted as the class speaker, spoke at Sunday’s commencement ceremony in front of a jam-packed high school gymnasium. Taylor shared seven lessons she learned while in high school: — News spreads like wildfire in a small town. Free, fresh produce giveaway effort begins By RICHARD LUKEN The Iola Register

Tracy Keagle and Georgia Masterson were in a giving mood Friday. The pair handed out sackloads of fresh produce, all free of charge, to folks of all stripes Friday afternoon. They’ll decide later whether to set up another giveaway day. Keagle grows most of the produce, although other farmers from the Allen County Farmers Market, after hearing of her endeavor, donated leftover produce from their sales the day prior. For the lay person, who has little idea what livestock judging at the collegiate level entails, Buddy Curry has a tip: “Think of it as a debate team with an animal influence.” Curry, recently named Allen Community College’s new livestock judging coach and “ag careers specialist,” arrives at the Iola campus with a long menu of credentials, a blue-chip history in competitive judging and no shortage See FARM | Page A2

Rescue crews had to use the Jaws of Life device to free the trapped Streeter from the car. Iola High School Principal Stacey Fager said Streeter was able to walk with assistance for about 30 minutes See INJURED | Page A4
