A night of enchantment

Photos by Rick Danley and Bob Johnson

Iola High’s 2015 Junior-Senior Prom drew scores of spectators to Saturday’s Grand March, at which most students opted to dress and arrive in elegant fashion, but others chose unique. At upper left, Ashley Cary laughs as her escort, Jordan Long, struggles to open a stubborn car door. Above, Matt Jacobs and Cassie Delich pose for photos as they head to the high school. At middle left, Abbigail Valentine’s blue tinted hair is luminescent in the early evening light.

Above, Alex Bauer, Torrie Lewis, Kaden Macha and Emery Driskel arrived in a car customized from the “Dumb and Dumber” movies. Bauer and Macha were game to carry out the look in their attire, as well. At upper right, Lauren Hunt and Johnathon Burris arrive via horseback. At lower right, Krya Moore is escorted by Seth Sanford. See many more images from IHS Prom 2015 at www.iolaregister.com.

Downtown merchants bring Iola Market Day Downtown merchants will display their wares on city sidewalks May 9 in their first Iola Market Day. The idea is to attract Iolans and out-of-towners to the heart of town. “Iola has a great community to promote,” Melissa Luttrell, owner of Brooklyn Park Antiques, said. “People travel through and we want them to stop and shop.” Merchants will set up mer-

chandise outside their stores to draw customers in. Also, in the theme of Farm-City Days, those who sell vintage, antique and hand-crafted items can set up booths on the courthouse grounds. ACARF, the Allen County Animal Rescue Facility, will set up its food trailer. Other food vendors are welcome to also set up stands. Contact See MARKET | Page A4

Area man back home after wreck, seizure By RICHARD LUKEN The Iola Register

Anthony Myers, 22, is recovering at home following a seizure he suffered after being involved Wednesday in a single-car accident near Elsmore. Dena Myers, Anthony’s grandmother, told the Register over the weekend he was dismissed from a Joplin hospital after a battery of tests gave him an otherwise clean bill of health. Myers apparently fell

asleep Wednesday morning after working the night shift at Gates Corporation. He was driving home to Elsmore when his pickup left the roadway, entered the ditch and struck a culvert, flipping onto its roof in a drainage ditch. Myers was trapped in the pickup for more than an hour, in knee-deep water, before he found his phone and called 911. It then took authorities about 15 minutes to find his truck, which was virtually invisible to passing traffic be-

cause of the steep ditch. He was initially treated at Allen County Regional Hospital. He suffered the seizure that evening, and was flown via helicopter from Elsmore to Joplin. Dena Myers said doctors revealed her grandson has a genetic predisposition to seizures, and Wednesday’s episode may have been triggered by a mild concussion he suffered in the accident.
