MORAN — It’s important to love people where they are in life, and allow God to make whatever changes are necessary to help them grow, according to Pastor Mathew Kalmeta with Midpoint Bap tist Church in Moran.

But dry, hot weather is nothing new in this semi-ar id part of the world. And experts like Hutton and Kansas State University me teorologist Chip Redmond said frequent breaks in the heat and timely bits of mois ture have kept 2022 from surpassing the records set by the most extreme years in Kansas history.

As it stands, Allen’s web site — allencc.edu — is infor mation-heavy, and difficult to navigate to find basic infor

The Moran Baptist Church received its charter on Sept. 15,Landers1957. and Holmes soon rented a building on Main Street, with Landers as pas tor, and later moved to 308 N.

And Dodge City is merely one hot, dry spot in a state that’s only occasionally found itself this warm and parched.Drought currently covers nearly three-fourths of Kan sas. And roughly one-third of the state is in extreme or exceptional drought — the highest levels on the U.S. Drought Monitor scale.

That doesn’t mean 2022’s drought hasn’t had grave consequences. The timing and location of some of this year’s harshest conditions devastated crops, as western Kansas wheat farmers saw earlier this summer.

Allen Community College’s website — described as its “front door” to the online world — will soon get an up grade.College trustees approved a request to spend upward of $50,000 for the new site’s development, which should make it easier to navigate for

for pet food, many owners have a tried-and-true brand that they are loyal to. Some owners, however, may be interested in switching foods or unsure of what makes a good food. When someone doesn’t already know what they are looking for, it can be difficult to navigate the world of pet food and alternative or fad diets that circulate in forums and on social media. Buzz words and phrases such as grain free, all natural, raw, and farm fresh appear on brightly colored bags featuring claims of health benefits and promises of a better quality of life for pets. While these forms of marketing are not inherently bad, they can often be misleading or confusing when an owner is trying to provide the best for theirIfpets.anowner is just starting out or starting over with a pet’s diet, it is important to know what to look for. Some brands that veterinarians recommend are Hill’s Science Diet, Purina Pro Plan, and Royal Canin. These brands have had extensive research and feed trials led by veterinarians and veterinary nutritionists. If these foods are not available to an owner for any number of reasons, it is important to find a food that meets Association of American Feed Control Officials standards, is labeled as “complete” and “balanced,” and has had feed trials on real animals. This gets the animal started on a general maintenance diet.

Yet the drubbing has made Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov sing a differ ent tune when it comes to peace talks. Whereas a few months ago he scoffed at the idea of negotiations, this week he said, “we are not against the Ukrainiantalks.”President Volo dymyr Zelenskyy should engage in these talks in good faith. He rightly re sists offering territorial concessions to Russia. Putin should understand this and walk away with some of his military still standing. He can choose to call it “nego tiated strategic victory” or whatever else he wants.

The stunning victory is significant enough from a purely territorial perspec tive, but an equally lasting impact might be the tonal shift in the war. For sociologists like me, the answer has to do with the fundamentals of how human communities persist. For any group, death is an existential threat. This is the last hiccup President Joe Biden needs as the nation slowly makes headway toward an eco nomic recovery. But if Re publicans are rubbing their hands with schadenfreude glee at the opportunity to blame all the repercussions on the Democrats, they might want to be careful how they phrase it. By sup porting a strike by train engineers and conductors, Republicans risk being seen as cheering the economic ca lamity that certainly would punish all Americans with more supply-chain interrup tions.Meanwhile, Biden and the Democrats risk appearing to side with big business over unions if Congress or the White House take steps to block the strike. Alienating unions could lead to disas ter ahead of a tight midterm election.

Where does Archie fall?

Who’s the best at it?

Archie’s pretty good. I have to say the bulk of our sports trivia growing up was us bleeding his database. So he knows his stuff. My dad’s always been a big reader and he loves just staying current and knowing what’s going on but also likes to talk about the good old days, and so we’ve been good listeners for a long time.

We have always been big trivia folks, even stems back to driving in a car with my dad. We used to play a game called “20 Questions.” A lot of times for us, it was more sports related and we were always really interested in trivia. We loved “Jeopardy.” Even back at home, we played a lot of Trivial Pursuit. Yeah, I think we like little nuggets of information that you can trump one another

We don’t lack confidence when it comes to trivia, so ever ybody’s going to say they’re the best. But Peyton and I can go head to head and we’ll give Eli a distant third.

Truthfully, we don’t get the questions and the answers until 90 minutes before the show So Peyton has to go in a room and make sure he’s pronouncing ever ything correctly especially because he’s doing that rapid fire. So a lot of times, if he says something wrong, that can alter the interpretation of the question and therefore can alter the answer And I am tr ying to go through and find a few little tidbits out of pretty high-level tunities for some light-hearted chances of making Peyton.

there was almost no flu activity (back when we were wearing masks and socially distancing very carefully). For most years, getting the vaccine in September or October is ideal, because the vaccine takes two weeks or so to become effective. The vaccine lasts roughly six months before the protective effect is lessened.

DEAR DR. ROACH:

Because the flu season went on so long this year, people who got vaccinated early, such as in August, were potentially at higher risk toward

As always, there are many flu vaccines to choose from, and it does not matter much which one you choose. People who are over 65, or who have weakened immune systems, should consider one of the highdose or adjuvanted flu vaccines (Fluzone HighDose, Flublok or Fluad), but I would still recommend getting a regulardose vaccine if you can’t find one of these higherpotency vaccines at the time you want to get vaccinated. to get vaccinated by October

Considering these unusual times, would it make sense to get the vaccine earlier this year? My husband and I are over 65. — S.A.

Last year, at the office I practiced in New York, there were two peaks of influenza activity: one that began in November and peaked in midDecember, and then a second, larger peak in April and May (but with some activity lasting until June). This was similar in other parts of the country. This contrasts sharply to the previous year, when

the 2022-2023 flu season, with two influenza A viruses (H1N1 Victoria and H3N2 Darwin) and two influenza B viruses (B/Victoria and B/ Yamagata). All the flu vaccines this year are quadrivalent, meaning they cover all four of the recommended strains. However, the timing is even more of a guess this year than ever.

For u season, it’s still best

Both my husband and I just had the flu. We initially suspected that it was COVID, but the tests were negative. My symptoms, especially cough and runny nose, hung on for over two weeks. I visited an urgent care clinic where I was told I most likely had the (seasonal) flu, and I was prescribed an inhaler as well as a cough suppressant. The physician indicated that they have seen a lot of flu cases this summer. I am thinking the rise is because of people wearing masks and staying home these past couple of years, which could thereby weaken our immuneWhensystems.Ifilled my prescriptions at the pharmacy, the pharmacist told me that they started flu vaccines in August. We typically get our seasonal flu vaccines in October to ensure its effectiveness through February and March.

the end of the second peak. For that reason, I don’t recommend getting the flu shot so early this year: September or October is still probably best. However, flu activity could start early, so finding out what’s happening in your local area from your local health department will help your doctor recommend the ideal time for you. I would really recommend getting it by the end of November, but it would still be beneficial later on, especially if the flu season lasts

Kansas State QB Adrian Martinez has thrown for just 154 yards without a touchdown pass this season, though those numbers are a bit misleading. The Wildcats went vanilla when they were up big against South Dakota, then played in heavy rains against Missouri. Still, it would be good to get the passing game going against Tulane before facing the Sooners.
