With multiple COVID-19 vaccination options available, and more to come once the CDC issues guidelines for children ages 5 to 11, it might be a little confusing to know what shots are recommended and how to get Rebecca Johnson them. The Southeast Kansas Multi-County

Health Departments released a chart to help, and executive director Rebecca Johnson said all vaccines and boosters for ages 12 and older are currently available at the local health department. She will announce a plan for children ages 5 to 11 as soon as the CDC releases its recommendations. That could happen as early as this week. Air Force major to speak at Veterans Day ceremony By RICHARD LUKEN The Iola Register

Maj. Tyner Apt-Hill, who went from the halls of Iola High School to the U.S. Air Force Academy, will deliver the keynote address during Saturday’s Veterans Day ceremony in downtown Iola. Apt-Hill, currently a student at Command and General Staff Officer College at Fort Leavenworth, earned her commission from the Academy in May 2010, where she earned the rank of Second Lieutenant. Since then, she’s spent the entirety of her active duty as a logistics readiness officer, and was promoted to First Lieutenant in May 2012, Captain in May 2014 and Major in January 2020. She returned to General Staff Officer College in June, following a two-year stint as operations officer for the 6th Logistics Readiness Squadron at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. She also had various

Maj. Tyner Apt-Hill management positions at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona, Moody Air Force Base in Georgia and Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma. She is the daughter of Chuck and Mary Apt. Authors to talk about book for Iola Reads By VICKIE MOSS The Iola Register

A husband-and-wife author team will be in Iola on Thursday to talk about their book, “Squint.” The novel is the young adult selection for Iola Reads. Authors Chad Morris and Shelly Brown will speak to Iola Middle School students at 10 a.m. at the Iola High School gym; Lincoln Elementary students will attend their presentation at 1:30 p.m. A community presentation by the authors will be offered at 7 p.m. at the Creitz Vol. 124 No. 23 Iola, KS 75 Cents

MORAN — Marmaton Valley High School brings a little sass (and a lot of humor) to the stage Friday and Saturday. “The Hallelujah Girls,” stars an ensemble of young starlets quick with a hug, and quicker with a quip and a healthy dose of Southern hospitality — and hilarity. (Just think of “The Golden Girls” meets “Steel Magnolias.”) “The Hallelujah Girls” takes place in the fictional town of Eden Falls, Ga., where a group of five aging beauties gather after the sudden death of an old friend. Each yearns for something better in life, even if they’re not exactly certain how to do so. Enter their ringleader, Sugar Lee Thompkins, who has decided to pour her life savings into converting an abandoned church into a day spa. Carissa Mattox portrays the firebrand Sugar Lee. Of course, she relies on the support of her gal pals, Mavis, Carlene, Nita and Crystal. Alexis Elam shines as Carlene, a three-time widower, and the most level-headed and dry-witted of the group. Mallory Heim is the delectable Nita Mooney, an excitable lass, whose son has run afoul of the law a few too

many times. Mavis Flowers, portrayed by the memorable Autumn Simpson, has her own issues, stemming from a stale marriage.
