LEWISTON, Maine (AP) — A U.S. Army reservist suspected of killing at least 18 people in Maine had been taken by police for an evaluation after military officials became concerned that he was acting erratically in mid-July, a U.S. official told The Associated Press. The official said commanders in the Army Reserve’s 3rd Battalion, 304th Infantry Regiment became concerned in mid-July that Robert Card was acting erratically while the unit was training at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in New York. The official said military commanders became concerned about Card’s safety and asked for the police to be called. New York state police took Card to the Keller Army Community Hospital at West Point for evaluation, the official said. The official was not authorized to publicly discuss information about the incident and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. SEK county seeks water crisis declaration Caney is running out of water. Caney city and school officials spelled out the dire situation this week with Montgomery County commissioners, who are seeking a state water emergency, the Montgomery County Chronicle reported. Caney City Administrator Kelly Zellner said the Little Caney River Basin, which provides water to the south-

east Kansas community, may not meet demand for the rest of the year without conservation measures, the newspaper reported. With four young children, Chelsie Angleton Decker wants to ensure her children have the best possible education. She believes one of the best ways to do that is to serve on the USD 258 Board of Education. She is one of

Passenger dies in Bourbon Co. crash A Missouri man is dead following a two-vehicle accident in rural Bourbon County Wednesday evening. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported Nathaniel N. Morehead, 44, Milan, Mo., was the passenger in a Jeep Wrangler driven by Heath A. Baker, 36, Nevada, Mo. Troopers said the Jeep collided with an SUV driven by Rebecca L. Shinn, 75, Uniontown, who was westbound and turned south onto K-3 Highway from U.S. 54. Morehead was declared dead at the scene. Baker and Shinn were both taken to the hospital. Troopers said Baker suffered a suspected serious injury; Shinn’s injuries were described as minor. A juvenile also was a passenger with Baker. Information about the juvenile was not released. Shinn was wearing a seat belt, troopers said; Baker and Morehead were not.
