The 100th anniversary of UdeC also marks the 24th volume for the journal Ciencia y Enfermeria (Science and Nursing), the first issue of which was published in 1995. This scientific journal focusses on IberoAmerican nursing and is indexed in the most prestigious databases, including the SciELO Citation Index, Web of Science, Scopus, Redalyc, Cuiden, Latindex, LILACS, Google Scholar, BVS, and SIIC Salud. “Managing a journal involves a complex editorial process that requires the unconditioned participation of editors, secretaries, peer-reviewers, translators, stylistic editors, printing companies, journalists, associate editors, members of scientific committees, and authors. Management tasks currently involve 15 people that work rigorously, with dedication, and without recognition so that each research study sees the light of day as a published, open-access manuscript,” comments Editor-In-Chief, Dr. Sara Mendoza Parra.
“An indispensable element to remaining relevant over our 24 years of existence has been having an international editorial team of renowned researchers, as well as peer-reviewers with recognized academic careers in the field and regarding methodology. These factors have strengthened the mission of Ciencia y Enfermería and have led to recognition as an international journal of world-class editorial and scientific quality,” comments Dr. Mendoza. Finally, Dr. Mendoza expresses that, “We still face a number of challenges, and success means maintaining the prestige we have acquired and continuing to attract manuscript submissions by researchers in health and nursing.” More information: smendoza@udec.cl
An important milestone for the Ciencia y Enfermería team was incorporation into the SciELO-Chile project in 2001. This meant that, from 2002, the journal began worldwide distribution. By extension, and through the SciELO Citation Index, the journal was integrated into the Web of Science platform, a global reference in bibliographic and bibliometric platforms. These integrations expanded journal visibility and have contributed to the international diffusion of scientific knowledge in the field of nursing. The journal now maintains a permanent flow of articles and reviews, the authors and co-authors of which are from countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, the United States, Venezuela, Uruguay, Australia, Belgium, Cuba, Peru, Argentina, and Honduras.
