I will like to thank She’rry Stevenson for taking the time to interview with ISMM.

Antonia: What the biggest strengths you will bring to this organizations? She’rry: The strengths I will bring to your organization are my creative attributes, my desire to get the job done, my business savvy and my ability to captivate an audience. Antonia: What are the things you do not like to do, and do not want to work on? She’rry: I love my job and I enjoy learning all there is to know about my craft. Antonia: Please walk me through a typical day at your current job and about your bosses and relationship with them? She’rry: A typical work day for me is to check with my officer’s and make sure that they have what they need to better perform there job duties. I then check my e-mails and do any paper work. Next, I check on the dispatcher’s to make sure that their systems are functioning properly to maintain communications with all officers. Finally at last, I go on patrol with my officer’s and offer my assistance if needed. I work in an all male environment. I am the only female supervisor in my department most of the time it is truly a struggle getting my point across with so much testosterone floating around in the air. But for the most part with a little perseverance I am heard quite well. Antonia: What adjectives would your references use to use to describe you? She’rry: They would use the adjectives: hardworking, dependable, responsible, able to multi- task, requires no supervision, self-starter and a fast learner. Antonia: What accomplishments in your career to date www.inversionsmm.com

are you most proud of? She’rry: The accomplishments I am most proud of are: Being promoted to a supervisor, a TCLEOSE Training Instructor, a FTO(Field Training Officer), Female SelfDefensive In structor , and A mother of one son (Xavier Stevenson) and foremost keeping God # 1 in my life. Antonia: Where would you like to be in 3-5 years in your career? She’rry: In 2 years I would like to be a Trainer in the Sheriff department and in the remaining 3 years in a position preparing to be the next Sheriff. Antonia: What risks did you take in your last position? She’rry: In my last position I took on the responsibility of a supervisor before I was promoted and the officer’s responded very well to my leadership abilities Antonia: Give me an example of a time that you felt you went above the call of duty at work? She’rry: There was a young lady who was going to be put out of school for not meeting academic requirements and I spoke with the Dean of the University and got her re-instated in school and she was also able to keep her scholarship. Antonia: What irritates you about other people, and how do you deal with it? She’rry: The thing that irritates me about other people is citizens who have such a hatred for the police. Everyday we get up and leave our families and go out into this dog -eat- dog world and risk our life. Citizens don’t realize that everyday we take an oath to give our lives for people we don’t even no. We are human and we have feelings just like everyone else. All police officers are not bad. There are a lot of us out here who love God, love life, and love and honor our job and the people we serve. Antonia: What was the difficult period in your life, and how did you deal with it? She’rry: The most difficult period in my life was last year April 25, 2010 @ 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening, when my little sister (Janet Harrison) was brutally murdered by a stalker. This was the one time I was on the side of the justice system that I fight for everyday. I wanted to give up and I lost faith in humanity....I wanted to just give up. I knelt down on my knees and I asked God to come into my heart and help me to forgive this man for shattering my heart and destroying the life of my sister who I loved so dearly.(While tears are running down my face). Antonia: Who was the person in your career who really made a difference? She’rry: The person who really made a difference in my career was Lt. Wilbert White of The City of Prairie View Police Department. Lt. White took it upon himself and walked me through the processes and the do’s and don’ts of being a good police officer. He played a major part in making me into the officer I am today......I learned the basics, the roots of an exceptional officer from him. www.inversionsmm.com

Phelps. With his 18 years of experience, when he steps behind the camera the finished product is nothing less than flawless. This self taught artist obviously has an eye for capturing more than just an image; he has the innate ability to artistically capture his subject’s most intimate and cherished moments. Born and raised in Houston’s north side, Ferrell started out in front of the camera before he became the man behind it. After a somewhat disappointing stint working for some national photo exchange companies, he knew that it was time for a change. Ferrell recounts being told by his former manager, “you’ll never be

successful on your own.” Imagine! “So often we allow people to kill our dreams and things we believe in, but when you know who you are and the gift that God has given you, no one can take that away.” Spoken like a true champion. With the dynamic force of his faith in God and his determination to become successful, he started his career by taking pictures of family and friends. At that time he gave the pictures away for free. But his gift began to transform, and what was once a hobby blossomed into his profession. “I absolutely love what I do. Ferrell’s celebrity clientele include LeToya Luckett, Delta Burke, Robert Horry, Shaquille O’Neal, Nancy Wilson, Dionne Warwick, Aaron Glenn, Queen Latifah, and Elvin Bethea. He’s even been fortunate to photograph “the greatest”, MuhammadAli. He credits his success to his father because he believed in him and to his best friends because they have been his most loyal fans. Being committed to giving back to the community, Ferrell has donated artwork to Texas Southern University to assist in raising funds for scholarships, not to mention the Sandra Organ Dance Company, and the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon. You can also peep Ferrell’s work at the Black Heritage Art Gallery and the St. Agnes Church. Just make sure you don’t miss his signature collection: a series entitled In the Spirit, a collection of works that “stands as a declaration of the human spirit’s passion and purpose.” Also a must-see is his most powerful and most controversial piece, Step Out on Faith and Stand on the Word. Once you see it, you too will be speechless. www.ferrellphelps.com www.inversionsmm.com
