Born in Italy and brought up in Grangetown, Cardiff – Gio is a true Welsh Italian. Gio began his career by traveling to America and working on luxury cruise liners, travelling around the world. In New Jersey, he bought shares in a bar called The Fox and Hounds and after successfully running the bar for some time, he became homesick and made the move back home to Wales. He returned to Cardiff and his first business venture was selling ice creams. Looking for a venue after six months, he came across a coffee shop called Planters, now the infamous Giovanni’s Restaurant in the Hayes and today, he is celebrating his 21st year. When asked about his success Gio says “It seems like only yesterday that the first customers and now very good friends of mine, the Hirley family walked through the doors. They used to sit in the window trying to make the place look busy until St David’s Hall emptied after which Gio’s restaurant became full. I would like to acknowledge them and will forever acknowledge them. I had lots of help from my sisters Francesca and Tina and was able to venture into a new business, then called Continental, moving onto club La Tino above Continental. It used to be home to the likes of Luciano Pavarotti, Jose Carreras and Shirley Bassey to name but a few.”

This started the regeneration of Cardiff and brought the heart of Cardiff to the awardwinning Mill Lane. Gio says, “When celebrities come to our venues we give them the option as to whether they are happy to be treated as celebrities or if they’d rather be left alone. I believe everyone has the right to their privacy.” Next year, Gio will be venturing into his next specialized restaurant, bar and club with a difference, but before then, his aim is to take No. 10, Conti’s Club and Restaurant to the next level providing a special service, great food and fantastic entertainment.

Since the company’s birth back in 2009, Tracey has become a highly successful businesswoman. Today, the network boasts over 300 members from a wide range of industries and sectors, while hosting 70 networking events a year in various 4 and 5 star locations throughout South Wales. She is known for her commitment and drive to providing valuable information. Her talks are extremely powerful and compelling as she leaves the audience feeling completely energized and ready to take on the world! One of the reasons Tracey stands out as a speaker is that she brings her own personal experiences to her talks. She speaks openly about how she got networking very wrong during her first three months as she was giving it the hard sell and almost completely gave up on it, but not before she took on some very sound advice. She started networking in the correct way, by building relationships and trust and went on to sell £100,000 worth of advertising revenue over the next 6 months. She saw firsthand how powerful and profitable networking could be for business. Tracey spotted a gap in

26

the market and decided to start her own networking company, and so Introbiz was born! Tracey has shared the stage with Hilary Devey CBE, Baroness Michelle Mone, John Lee and Sharon Lechter, an international bestselling author who is widely credited as being the genius behind the Rich Dad brand. Sharon is also Tracey’s mentor. Having worked in the networking world for a number of years now, demands for Tracey to share her knowledge and experience have grown significantly, which is why she decided to write a book to help anyone who’d like any advice when it comes to networking. SPEED NETWORKING

“We pride ourselves on being different from other divorce providers.”

TIPS

Speed networking is ever growing in popularity with more and more professionals who are starting to experiment with the concept. We’re all constantly busy, which means that spending time growing your network and making connections tends to fall down the priority list. With speed networking, you don’t have to miss out on any opportunities. The prospect of meeting more people in a short amount of time is extremely appealing which is why speed networking is a firm favourite, regardless of the size of their business and their industry. If you’re new to networking and wondering what speed networking is all about, then here are some tips that could really help.

With our help, divorce can be…

Our comprehensive fixed-fee services ensure that everyone can obtain family law expertise in the most cost-effective and affordable way. UNDERSTAND WHAT SPEED NETWORKING IS ALL ABOUT Your preparation should begin before the event actually takes place. Familiarise yourself with the format of the session (this can differ depending on the event) and start practising your elevator pitch. You should understand that speed networking is all about efficiency and consideration, so preparing your pitch and making plenty of eye contact is a must.

BE HONEST AND SHOW RESPECT This may seem like an obvious point but being honest is imperative when it comes to speed networking. It can be very easy to fall into the trap of focussing on the “speed” element of the session rather than paying attention to your new-found connection. Be polite, make plenty of eye contact, smile and be respectful to the other person. They may not be able to offer you what you’re looking for there and then, but they may be able to assist you in the future.

COME WELL PREPARED When attending a speed networking session, bring a pile of business cards along with you because you’ll be handing them out throughout! You could also bring along a leaflet which can explain what you do and what you can offer in greater detail. If you can, you could even offer an introductory offer or discount to further promote.

PREPARE YOUR ELEVATOR PITCH An elevator pitch is a 30 second description of yourself, what you do and the products and services you can offer. Your elevator pitch should flow easily and naturally and with good preparation, you should be able to execute a successful pitch.

ALWAYS HAVE THE END IN MIND You should always have clear and concise goals in mind when you partake in a speed networking session. An example of this could be making a new contact in a specific field that you’d like to enter. However, you shouldn’t worry if you don’t make a direct contact within the field you’re looking for. You never know who you’re going to meet or who your new-found connection knows. This just makes speed networking even more fun and exciting!

This year’s speed networking sponsor is 123 Divorce®. They offer affordable and quality, fixed-fee online family law services. They believe that you shouldn’t have to choose between quality expertise and affordability; you really can have the best of both worlds. 123 Divorce® proves through cooperation, as opposed to acrimony, that divorce can be civilised. “We understand the difficulties which come with divorce, which is why we make the process as simple and easy as 1.2.3.™.”

AN INTERVIEW WITH

LORD SUGAR Lord Alan Sugar is a world-renowned businessman, media personality and philanthropist, supporting a number of charities and aspiring young entrepreneurs. We sat with Lord Sugar for an interview before he makes his way to Cardiff in November. Did you always have a keen interest in business and did you envisage that you’d ever become a technology mogul? As a young man, I was always very good at making money because as a family, we never had any. I found I had to be self-sufficient and through this, discovered I had a natural flair for business. You are a highly successful multi-business owner. What is the most valuable piece of advice you’ve ever received and have you stood by this? Well, my biggest piece of advice is to keep your feet on the ground and to keep control of your costs. I’d also advise that you constantly keep checking that you’re profitable. I always make sure we’re in profit and and I’d encourage you to never take your foot off the gas. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned throughout your journey? Be prepared for failure and you’ll learn from your mistakes. The Apprentice is a hugely successful show, having run for a number of years. Why do you think it’s such a success and do you see the programme running for the future? Yes, it’s successful because the younger generation is interested in business. They aspire to the programme. You must remember that we’ve been doing the show for many years, and this season at the moment is the 14th season. The 10 year olds who watched the show 14 years ago are now 24 so yes, the popularity is growing.

48

Do you have a winner in mind before the series comes to an end or do you base your decisions purely on performance? I don’t have any winners in mind before the process takes its normal course. That is not the case. People win based purely on their performance in each and every task. What’s the one task you look forward to on The Apprentice? I personally always like the advertising tasks. I also like the task where we send the candidates out to buy the nine items because that kills two birds with one stone – I can see if they’re good with logistics and negotiating – two very important skills in business. For any young, aspiring business owners out there, what’s the one piece of advice you’d give to them? Don’t do anything unless you’re experienced in the field you want to go in to. You can’t just go into business because it’s fashionable and because you simply like the industry. Don’t go into any business without some form of experience and be prepared to work very hard to get to where you want to be. Taking time out of work is also important. What do you like to do to relax and have fun? After a hefty business day, I go home and watch TV. I’ve always been a five-day-week person and I believe the weekends are for relaxing. I like to go out flying or in the summer evenings, I can ride my bike. That’s what I like to do. Lord Sugar will be at the VIP networking lunch at 1pm where a Q&A session will be taking place.

What key lessons have you learnt being in business with Lord Sugar? I always say that the real prize in winning BBC’S The Apprentice is the Mentorship and advice that you receive from Lord Sugar. He has and continues to teach me so much about how to succeed in business, but I would say that the three main lessons I have learnt are as follows: • Dominate your market sector with true difference: If your competitors are all doing something over here, make sure you create your business over there, and create it with true innovation. • Business is hard. A point demonstrated by the fact the majority of start-ups fail within the first year. For me, 90% of succeeding in business is just showing up and working through the problems and challenges each and every day to move closer to your overall goals. • Develop a rhinoceros skin - a layer of untouched ignorance that refuses to acknowledge the negative opinions of others or those around you. They aren’t helpful, they certainly won’t enable to achieve your goals and they will only bring you down. Don’t listen. What are the biggest challenges you have faced in building Climb Online? My main focus in launching Climb Online was to create a digital marketing agency that provided an incredible service for clients, whilst supporting staff development. Maintaining this quality, whilst growing at scale has been a key challenge, together with sourcing and retaining the right team members who believe in the vision and direction of the business. Digital Marketing is a fast-paced industry sector. How do you make Climb Online stand out from industry competitors? There are several things that we have implemented to make Climb Online stand out as one of the UK’s leading digital marketing agencies: We have transformed all key services - SEO, Paid Media and Social Media - to appear as purchasable products ‘Organic Climber’, ‘Paid Climber’ and ‘Social Climber’, marrying the Climb Online brand to the service and redefining digital marketing as a whole. As a result, both existing and prospective customers refer to these core services with the Climb Online terminology, demonstrating their belief in the brand. All of our staff are extremely passionate in their delivery and instead of trying to wow with industry jargon, we talk the same language as our clients – Business Owners - and work towards one simple goal: Profit. So many agencies focus on the ‘how’ as opposed to the ‘result’ and ultimately this is what it comes down to, business growth in return for marketing spend.

Where Digital Marketing Delivers Profit. SEO Paid Media Social Media Digital Branding Web Development It’s Noisy. Be Heard.

What will delegates learn from your talk at Introbiz? My talk at Introbiz is entitled ‘Building a successful business with Digital…’ In attending, delegates with gain an true insight into my journey from Australia to winning The Apprentice and building Climb Online. ABOUT

With a network boasting hundreds of members, dozens of events throughout the year as well as an annual Expo founded by Paul Smolinski, Introbiz really is a hub of activity. Tracey and Paul Smolinski

You may be wondering how it all works? Introbiz thoroughly enjoy placing you with your target audience, giving you the opportunity to connect and socialise with all sorts of industries and businesses. We invite you to try the experience before joining by attending one of our weekly events. These are all different, ranging from breakfasts to power group events, to ladies’ lunches, socials and business clubs. What’s great is that there really is something for everyone to enjoy. Our people-first approach to networking combines relationship building, industry knowledge and most importantly trust. We help our members to expand and grow their businesses and have developed a supportive business community from a wide range of industries. Introbiz is now one of the most respected business networks in

66

South Wales, hosting weekly networking events as well as Wales’ National business exhibition every Autumn. Introbiz is recognised for attracting some of the largest brands in the UK and internationally as members and partners, meaning that we can connect SMEs with the larger corporations at our weekly networking events. If there is someone in the South Wales business community that you’d like to connect with, then we can make that happen for you. You can visit our website to see all our upcoming events as well as our membership packages where you can see what’s best suited to you and your business. You can also visit us on stand number 317 and we’ll be happy to have a chat with you.

67

ABOUT OUR EVENTS At Introbiz, we offer a range of events to suit everyone – breakfasts, socials, power groups, ladies’ lunches, business clubs and much more. There’s always something new and exciting going on, so make sure you visit our networking diary regularly to keep updated.

SOCIAL EVENTS Our social events are more relaxed and usually include a tasty buffet. There is no formal structure meaning you’re able to network and chat to the other guests as you like. This year, we’ve enjoyed all sorts of social events including our annual BBQ at Gio’s, a VIP event at Laing Cardiff as well as a social networking event at the Lexus showroom in Cardiff.

POWER GROUPS A firm favourite with both members and visitors, the power groups provide the ultimate networking experience. Usually held on a Thursday afternoon from 4-6pm, this format allows guests to meet a number of businesses in a very limited space of time. You may be wondering how the power group format works. Well, you’ll be sat on a designated table with nine other businesses and you’ll each have 5 minutes to talk about your business and what you do. You can make notes, hand around your business cards and connect with businesses that you never thought you’d meet.

BUSINESS CLUBS The business clubs have grown in popularity over the last year which is great to see. Usually held at picturesque, Hensol Castle in the Vale of Glamorgan, these events provide an opportunity to listen to the stories of successful business owners or public figures. In previous years, we’ve welcomed The Apprentice winner and founder of Climb Online, Mark Wright, as well as WRU Chairman, Gareth Davies and the Head of Economic Development at Cardiff Council, Ken Poole. These events include an opportunity to ask any questions you may have as well as an opportunity to network with various other businesses. We also host a number of golfing events where you can mix business with the sport. There’ll be a number of events arranged throughout 2019.

68

LADIES LUNCHES Since launching in 2016, our ladies lunches are a big hit! On one Friday a month, the ladies within our network, and guests, are invited to join us for a fun afternoon. Described as being the perfect way to see in the weekend, our ladies enjoy a glass of fizz on arrival, a delicious 2-course lunch and a great networking opportunity. Although these events are extremely relaxed, they do have a purpose and they do work. Attendees are business owners or represent SMEs and corporate companies so there’s always someone new to meet.

BREAKFAST EVENTS Once a month, we host a networking breakfast which are popular for those who prefer to network bright and early. Held on a Friday morning from 7:30am, these events include a delicious cooked breakfast whilst guests network with each other. If you’re looking for a relaxed event with a formal structure, then our breakfast events will be perfect for you.

I’d strongly encourage you not to judge a person, you never know who they know and the network they have. The fortune really is in the follow up, so make sure you put time aside to do so.

Always surround yourself with the right people in business. I’d also encourage you to attend as many events as possible to really expand your network.

My best networking tip is to be honest and realistic with what you can offer. Have fun when you’re networking and show enthusiasm – this will be evident to your new connection.

Smile and make eye contact – this will encourage others to start a conversation with you.

Make sure you take an interest in your connection and invest your time in people.

Always take time to follow up and always remember to bring your business cards.

Confidence is key. Just remember that everyone is there for the same reason as you, to make connections. Take charge and you’ll be surprised at what you come across!

Be yourself and never ever overpromise. People buy from people and you will always be caught out in the end and leave the other person with a bad impression of yourself and the company.

I always think it’s important to remember the name of the individual you’re speaking to – it may be a small tip, but effective. Also, networking is a skill. It takes time to perfect and requires plenty of practice.

My best piece of advice when it comes to networking is to be yourself and show confidence.

Networking should not be a chore – it should be fun and something to look forward to. So many groups I’ve attended over the years have been laborious and dull. Paul and Tracey go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and included, and more to the point, they connect and encourage people to do business together. I love being a part of Introbiz! Not only is it a bustling business community but it feels like being a part of the family. Alison Edgar The Entrepreneur’s Godmother

Prodec Networks signed up to become a member of Introbiz looking to connect with local Welsh businesses. There are a number of networking groups in South Wales where you’re promised the earth, however Paul and Tracey really know how to deliver! Their networking events are incredibly well organised and different in each instance, I always enjoy attending. Rebecca Evans Prodec

Introbiz is a fantastic networking company. They are continuously growing and it is great that every time I go, there is someone new to talk business with. There is such variety in members and the staff are lovely and always happy and bubbly.

Introbiz offers their members brilliant networking opportunities. Thank you for the thought that goes into the seating arrangements – I make great connections! The Introbiz team really are exceptional. Christine Marsh Prime Objectives

It’s simple. Firstly Introbiz works, the businesses that attend are serious about what they do, there is a definite emphasis on sharing and reciprocal business and introductions. It’s where I get to meet and talk to local decision makers. It’s where the rubber meets the road to use an old cliche. Jonathan Davies Worldpay

The Introbiz network allows a wide range of businesses from various sectors to network in a pressure-free environment. I’ve attended a number of different events over the years and have found them to be a great opportunity to catch up with contacts in the region. Paul, Tracey and the team do a fantastic job of consistently hosting new and interesting networking events that cater for all businesses. Thomas Marsh, Blake Morgan

WE MAKE IT WORK FOR YOU Secure, scalable and stable IP Networks for the modern workplace

HELPING YOUNG PEOPLE INTO EMPLOYMENT Employers are signing up to shape Cardiff’s future workforce.

“So what do you want to do when you grow up?” Some children and young people have a clear idea but many others are unaware of the possibilities that are open to them. A new initiative seeks to inform young people of the enormous range of career options and support them in their efforts to pursue them. Called the Cardiff Commitment, it connects young people with the vast range of opportunities available in the world of work. In partnership with the public, private and third sectors, its aim is to ensure that all young people in the city have the support, choices and opportunities to become personally successful and economically productive citizens. Through its programme of engagement with schools and business, this Cardiff Council initiative is working to build a city which will see its young people reach their full potential whilst addressing the future skills needs of the city. The Cardiff Commitment has the backing of a wide range of organisations including the Welsh Government Apprenticeship Team, Careers Wales, Cardiff University, CBI Wales, The Prince’s Trust and Cardiff Council’s Youth Services, Schools and Economic Development departments.

Prodec’s IT networking and infrastructure services are built for the modern workplace. We provide businesses with the means to empower their workforce, increase productivity and improve their bottom line. To find out more about our business-grade data, voice and converged networking portfolio and how we can make IT work for you, contact us today.

Already over 129 local employers have committed their support to the scheme including some of Cardiff’s biggest companies; Admiral, Kier, GE Healthcare, BBC Wales and SA Brain. Commitment can take many forms such as an hour spent raising the career aspirations of Year 6 primary school children during

‘Open Your Eyes Week’. This year 650 primary school pupils benefitted from sessions designed to inspire and ignite interest in different occupations with 38 Cardiff businesses. Some employers have made Cardiff Commitment pledges to provide structured work experience programmes, facilitate local apprenticeships and training, or organise school activity sessions. The level of employer involvement is determined by the employer with no obligation to get involved with any particular activity. “The feedback that we are getting is that our partner companies welcome the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of young people, whilst making a valuable contribution to constructing the city’s future workforce. They see it as an excellent way of demonstrating their corporate social responsibility,” said Cllr Russell Goodway, Cabinet member for Investment and Development. “We would like to see even more Cardiff employers getting involved and making a commitment to connecting children and young people to the changing world of work.” Please email CardiffCommitment@cardiff.gov.uk for more information about how you can get involved.

PLANNING YOUR MARKETING CAMPAIGN Having a sound marketing campaign in place for your business is key to gaining success. Every business should have one in order to monitor and measure success and to understand how to improve and grow.

You may have a marketing plan but it may be outdated and reviewed infrequently, meaning it’s become irrelevant. Businesses with sound marketing plans have been shown to grow quicker, outperform competitors and can even increase staff retention. It can be daunting and time consuming to create and build an effective marketing campaign, so hopefully this guide can assist you along the way. UNDERSTAND YOUR AUDIENCE You should have a good understanding of your customer base so that you can plan your marketing campaign around them. Ask your customers about their opinion of your business, and where you can make improvements. Take the feedback on board and implement this into your plan. These are people that actually spend money with you, so it’s important to understand exactly what they like in order to save you time and money further down the line. KNOW YOUR BUSINESS The next step is to review and research comprehensively into your business. This could be collating information regarding your earnings, the different branches of your organization as well as the employees you may have and their skillset. This data will showcase the opportunities available to your business, highlight where you should be injecting your money and demonstrate market potential. Do you have all the systems you need in place to deliver your service? Do you have a full understanding of your values and do you have the correct support in place? If so, then you’re ready to work on your plan.

82

WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR BUSINESS TO GO The key thing to remember here, is not to focus too much on the numbers. Yes, the numbers will give an idea as to the performance of your business and give an indication as to where the growth should be, however creating sustainable and realistic objectives should be the end goal. Factors such as improving customer service and communicating your message are all things that can contribute to the direction and growth of your business. TARGET NEW CUSTOMERS When growing a business, finding new customers is imperative to this. Each business will have a specific market and demographic in mind when offering their products and services, and this can contribute towards further development. When attracting new customers, you should focus on marketing your product or service on social media or your website, you could offer a discount or even move into a new market with a new product.

CREATE YOUR ACTION PLAN Coming up with a detailed plan is important and you should ask customers for feedback, as well as your employees. If you operate a very small team, with your guidance and notes, you could even outsource this to a specialist marketing company to help. Your plan should be thorough, have set dates for goals to be achieved and should have clear instructions for the relevant departments. MONITOR AND IMPROVE Once the plan has been set out, you should appoint an individual to monitor its progress and schedule (and keep) regular meetings to see its strengths and weaknesses. Being consistent and proactive is key and making the necessary changes immediately is also important. Finally, give the marketing campaign time to be able to work. Progress and results will eventually come, but it won’t happen overnight.

BLOGGING v VLOGGING Widely believed to be a form of marketing and promotion for millennials, the art of blogging or vlogging is going nowhere. In fact, the popularity of these forms of marketing is only growing. You’ve probably heard of the term blogging, but may be unfamiliar with vlogging. Whilst blogging focuses on written content with the inclusion of some beautifully crafted images, vlogging is a blog in video form. Finding and dedicating time to both platforms can be tough – both require a lot of hard work and research so choosing the best fit for you is imperative to the success of your content creation. Here’s some more information about both blogging and vlogging that should help to answer your questions.

1

BLOGGING If you decide to start a blog, you’ll need to decide on a specific topic or niche. This way, you’re more likely to attract a specific audience and your blog and credibility will grow quicker. Why not write about a topic you’re passionate about? It doesn’t have to be business or work related – you could write about your hobby or parenthood. Anything you like! You should write engaging, fun and compelling content and engage with your audience. Your grammar should be accurate and your sentences should flow. If you’re not too keen on writing or creating new content, then perhaps a chatty vlog is a more suitable option for you. The aim of a blog is to educate and share experiences with others. Who knows? Your personal experiences may really help others who may be feeling the same way which is quite a powerful tool. As with a vlog, you should update your blog regularly to gain a loyal and engaging following. If you can only find time to post once a week, then choose a suitable day to do so. Your audience will know exactly when you post and are more likely to read your post. Posting more regularly is guaranteed to attract more readers but it’s completely up to you and what your schedule allows.

84

Social media is a huge tool for promoting your content. If you have a Facebook page, update your status with the link to your new blog. Your audience want to know when there’s something new to read and they may even share your blog to their own followers, ensuring your blog is exposed even further than before. Likewise, if you use Twitter or LinkedIn, then use these platforms to promote. Instagram is also a great way to promote your content. Post a relevant, clear and interesting picture to accompany your blog, include the correct link in your biography and you should reap the rewards. The last point is that blogging is fun! It can give you an escape from the busyness of life, you can write about a topic that you’re truly passionate about and it can even be kept as a sort of online diary – which is ideal if you write about parenthood. There are a number of websites that offer the opportunity to start a blog, completely free. Wordpress, Wix and Blogger all offer something different, depending on your style of writing and niche so make sure you do plenty of research beforehand to find the right platform for you.

VLOGGING Vlogging is a way to create video content which your audience can watch online. Similarly to blogging, it’s very easy to launch a vlog channel. All you need to do is to choose a specific topic or niche, purchase a camera and perhaps suitable editing software. This can be pricey, however, with the rise in vlogging popularity, equipment is becoming cheaper.

Blogging and vlogging really is a great way to show the world your personality. Write and film what you love and along the way, you’ll be sure to make friends from all over the world who absolutely love what you do. There’s no better feeling when your content can really help someone else out there. Why not give them both a go to see what works for you?

Building an audience when vlogging can take time. There are millions of channels out there so finding your audience can take a while, but don’t be disheartened – keep going and creating fun content and your market will grow. Be honest, creative and post regularly and your number of subscribers will steadily increase. As with blogs, you can use social media to your advantage and uploading your content to YouTube is also ideal and a way to secure more views and engagement. Who knows? If you gain enough subscribers, you could start monetising your vlogs!

85

BUSINESS CYBER SECURITY For a small business, cyber security can be quite a daunting prospect. However, it really doesn’t have to be scary. Being aware and proactive is half the battle and hopefully these points below will help you to think about protecting and securing your data.

Experts in Commercial Copywriting

Behind every business is an incredible story. Who’s telling yours?

www.constantcopy.co.uk

01691 701247

COST You may think that protecting your business from a cyberattack is extremely expensive. Whilst there are some ways that are costly, there are cheaper alternatives. Find a suitable anti-virus software that updates regularly to ensure you’re protected as best as possible. There are a variety of packages on the market, depending on your industry and the features that you’d like to protect so make sure you do plenty of research beforehand and take some recommendations from others who work in the same industry. Truthfully, the cost of rectifying and recovering important documents and information following a cyber-attack will cost much more money than actually preventing hackers in the first place. Making the investment will be well worth it to protect your business. BACK UP YOUR DATA Backing up your data is crucial. Sensitive information, such as client contact and billing details and the business’ financial data should take priority.

These back-ups should be made regularly, ideally daily if you can, to a separate storage device that differs from your usual hard-drive so if you did ever experience a security breach, your payments and account details should remain secure. CREATE AN IT POLICY As a business owner, you should also encourage your employees to take cyber security very seriously. You should provide your employees with a comprehensive, detailed and easy to read manual to assist with preventing cyberattacks and data breaches. All staff should adhere to this manual to ensure maximum security. The policy should include details from a variety of areas, including data protection, strict social media guidelines, a sound password policy, clear communications and network security. You spend some time daily to ensure the IT policy is being followed because this way, you’ll be able to see if there are any weaker areas where security needs to be increased.

TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION This may seem like an obvious point but it’s surprising how many businesses do not implement a two-factor authentication system when it comes to emails and certain accounting systems. When downloading security software, you’ll be encouraged to input both a password and a PIN number to gain access. This offers your sensitive information a double layer of protection if you like, meaning you can work on other aspects of the business. TEST YOUR SYSTEMS When you’ve included all your protection, you should take the time to test your new systems. This is to ensure your barriers are strong enough to deter hackers. You should be proactive when it comes to cyber-security, finding the right software for your business and taking the time to train and educate your staff on the best security practices for the company.

MAKING SENSE OF CRYPTOCURRENCY You’ve probably heard the term cryptocurrency banded around but have you ever stopped and wondered what it actually means and whether you should be using it?

PORTFOLIO LENDING

02922 677 725 info@gpsfinancial.co.uk

The name of the best-known cryptocurrency is Bitcoin and is a medium of exchange, similarly to the British pound or the US dollar. The difference is, Bitcoin is digital and uses specific encryption techniques to create and verify the transfer of funds. Bitcoin can be used for a number of services, including voting, automotive, financial services and healthcare. There are a number of benefits to using cryptocurrency. You can accurately track the location and journey of your money, enjoy increased transparency and there’s a reduction in production costs.

There is, however, an unknown when it comes to cryptocurrency because it’s new and isn’t commonly used by society. Other unknowns that may affect its popularity is the complex technology that goes into producing Bitcoin, the regulatory and implementation challenges, and of course, other competing platforms.

The future of cryptocurrency is uncertain, however, there’s no denying that at the moment, it is an ever-growing market.

Using cryptocurrency is actually very easy and straightforward. All you need to do is to create a digital wallet in order to store the currency safely. You’ll then need to create a unique public address to receive and transfer your cryptocurrency – a public address works rather like a unique email address that accepts money.

SEPARATION

A

ffordable

There are currently only two options available for anyone seeking advice on family law issues; prohibitively expensive traditional high-street law firms, or low-cost and lowquality unqualified and unregulated online providers. We offer the best of both worlds by providing affordable and high-quality comprehensive fixed-fee family law services; allowing everyone access to justice whilst avoiding final bill anxiety and the dreaded open-ended cheque. We achieve this by leveraging cutting-edge technology, reducing fixed overheads and implementing efficient and effective processes.

isn’t just a legal process, it’s an emotional journey. So when you need someone to depend on, we’re here for you all the way.

B

eneficial

C Family separation is a traumatic experience, which can have long-term emotional and financial implications if not dealt with correctly. With 123 Divorce®, you’re in safe hands. Our family law solicitors understand the emotional turmoil you’re in and have only yours and your family’s best interests at heart. That’s why we do everything we can to put our clients at ease: our passionate experts offer personalised advice regarding divorce, financial disputes, cohabitation issues, or child contact disputes. We’re here to guide and reassure you every step of the way.

“ Our process is as simple and easy as 123, but our ethos is ABC.”

96

For many years, traditional family law firms have facilitated a ‘gladiatorial’ environment between disputing couples, thus creating an uncooperative and adversarial approach to divorce and financial settlements. This common practice depletes the family ‘money pot’ to the detriment of the whole family and causes unnecessary financial hardship and instability. The only true winners in this scenario are the law firms themselves. We pride ourselves on being different from other divorce providers. It’s our goal to put an end to this ‘winner/loser’ mentality, and to avoid the devastating effects that come with this practice. By resolving family disputes through cooperative and amicable negotiations, we aim to reduce emotional trauma and protect the whole family, as opposed to leaving families fragmented, financially depleted and emotionally scarred.

We are passionate about making family legal services affordable for everyone. This fundamental value is instilled in all our work: to help people achieve access to justice by providing them with affordable yet high-quality expertise. This is what really makes us stand out from other law firms and online providers.

Our experienced and approachable family law solicitors understand that separation isn’t just a legal process, but an emotional journey. That’s why they will always strive for and encourage – with warmth, understanding and reassurance – an amicable and cooperative settlement. Our main goals are to negotiate an outcome that’s beneficial for the whole family, to achieve and sustain long-term stability, and to protect children from becoming ‘collateral damage’.

Our comprehensive legal services can be accessed online anytime 24/7 and, on any device, meaning you can always conveniently access expert advice around your busy schedule; whether it be on your commute to and from work, taking the dog for a walk, on the school run or relaxing at home. We’re always here for you. We understand the difficulties which come with family separation, so we strive to make the legal process as simple and easy as 1.2.3.™; that’s why we deal with all the paperwork, so you can continue with your everyday life, relaxed in the knowledge that you’re in safe hands.

To conclude… It’s our mission to promote the idea that divorce doesn’t have to be a negative and traumatic experience, but can be balanced and fair. We believe that family separations can be civilised if you choose to gain advice and services from the right company, who have you – the client – and your family at their very core. By taking this approach, we wish to challenge the stigma of divorce being perceived as a personal failure, and instead look at it as a new beginning.

Q&A WITH

DARSHAN PATEL

integrated A-Z solution that provides an annual strategy, design, development, internet marketing and lead generation services. It’s basically like having your own marketing team in-house.

What are you most proud of? Tell us about PIXAFUSION and how you started! The seeds of PIXAFUSION were planted back in 2005 when myself and Lee used to run a web hosting business from the back of my bedroom. We soon found that customers had a need for professional websites at affordable pricing and started offering just that! In 2010 we started our journey to where we are today, due to successful website projects and campaign strategies, unique techniques and an increasing customer demand, over the years we’ve expanded into all aspects of marketing such as Strategy, SEO, PPC, social media marketing, lead generation & print fulfilment.

What do you love about your role? Every day is a different day, your diary is always full and constantly changing! One minute I could be talking to a client over coffee, the next minute I could be flying half way around the world to start marketing campaigns with our international clients. I also love the people I work with; the team are a fun and highly skilled at what they do – we’re a family!

Tell us about a typical working day! It’s hard to say any day is ‘typical’, and if I’m being honest I like it that way. My working day usually starts at around 7am where I check my emails, catch up on news, social media and generally preparing for the day ahead. From there on out, anything goes. I spend the day either in the office, travelling or in meetings.

Customer service and team culture! No matter how much you spend with us, we treat every customer the same, with the highest importance! Over several years, we have developed a certain formula and process which ensures we provide an amazing experience for the customer throughout their journey with us. Clients tell us all the time that we have an amazing team, and I really believe that a connected team betters the work flow and as a result we deliver amazing websites and produce some successful campaigns.

What are the challenges for PIXAFUSION Digital right now and for the industry as a whole? It’s always a challenge trying to educate customers about new marketing techniques and technologies and getting them to believe in investing some of their marketing budget into areas such as lead generation through sales funnels, chatbots and automation. When clients finally understand these benefits, they see the returns for themselves. Our case studies and the work we provide is a testament to this.

What kind of goals do you have? What are the most useful KPI’S for measuring success?

Do you have any advice for people who want to work in Digital Marketing?

One of our biggest goals as a business is to continue to grow at the rate we are today and venturing into new markets both locally and internationally. We’ve already opened an office in Dubai this year and we’ve set our eyes on New York in the next six months.

The biggest thing in marketing is having the right experience and make sure you have a portfolio that’s up to date with latest skills and industry knowledge. There are many agencies and designer developers, but you need to work out your style, where you fit in and why you’re better than the next person.

The biggest KPI we measure our success on is customer experience and customer service. Ultimately, we look back over the customers journey and ask ourselves if we’ve not only met, but exceeded the client’s expectations? We always aim to over deliver on what we’ve promised.

How are you growing the business moving forward? One of the biggest things we’re doing is putting a 3 year recruitment and skills strategy in place to grow our business development team. We aim to have dedicated people within our team to focus on taking us to different sectors both locally and internationally.

What type of clients do you work with? We don’t work with everyone, we only work with businesses we believe we can add genuine value to. We’ve worked with some amazing clients such from local start-ups, SME’s to larger clients such as the NHS, Cancer Research, Caerphilly Council, Zipcar, HSBC, ACCA and Home Office. We’ve got some very exciting projects in the pipeline at the moment so we can’t wait to make a start on these!
