T G by Tohshin Partners Co., Ltd. and Key Operation Inc. /Architects is a double awardwining residential project located near Togoshi Ginza shopping centre in Japan. The nine-storey building is on a 500m² plot within a low-rise residential and high-rise commercial district. As it stands out as being higher than the surrounding residences, Zoom Togoshi Ginza features visually enhanced horizontal slabs to mitigate the verticality of the project’s volume. The third, fourth and fifth floors are also recessed to control the effects of sunshading. The building’s balustrades are formed by suitably angled vertical flat bars which aid residents’ privacy through blocking the
view from the street. They also serve to hide the external air-conditioning units on the apartments’ balconies. The allocation of the balustrades defines both the open and closed appearance of the building and create a façade that is ever-changing. The apartments’ interiors are light and airy in their design and layout. Larger rooms feature a careful balance of light and dark teak to give a premium feel, while smaller rooms have light and grey teak wood to make them appear more spacious. A full range of security systems such as auto-locks, CCTV cameras and crime-prevention sensors ensure peace of mind for residents around the clock.
