Former INTO OSU Pathway students gain community-wide recognition as International Cultural Service Program Scholars. For more info, click here. Simon Zhernakov is from Vladivostok, Russia. He’s been studying at OSU for three years and is a junior in the College of Business, double majoring in Management and Marketing. He’s a very communicative person and likes to talk about politics and business. Simon just finished working at the APEC 2012 which took place in Vladivostok, Russia. He worked on the Presidential Team in the Press Service Department of the President of the Russian Federation, and was nominated as one of the best among more than 2000 volunteers. “I would like to share with the OSU communities about the cultural, business, political, and other aspects of the Russian Federation,” he says. Yicheng Long is from China and is a second year Civil Engineering graduate student at OSU. He enjoys sharing his view with the local communities in Corvallis, from varied historical, religious, political, and social perspectives. Yicheng hopes to stimulate an interest in Chinese culture and help American friends to understand their value of life. Confucius, the most famous Chinese philosopher, was from his hometown. Chinese people are still influenced by his ideas. Yicheng shares one of his favorite Confucius quotes: “When there are three people walking, my teacher is bound to be among them. I select their good points and follow them. I take their bad points and change them in myself.” Zheren Wu also goes by Jerry. He’s from Jiaxing, in southeast China, and has been in Corvallis for two years. Zheren is currently a junior student majoring Mechanical Engineering. In his spare time, he likes to hang out with friends, and he recently started to play guitar, which has become a daily hobby. As a member of the ICSP program, Zheren hopes he can share some interesting and meaningful things he has experienced both in China and in the United States. The ICSP program has been funding outstanding international students since 1983. ICSP students are cultural representatives in the Corvallis community, volunteering for speaking engagements and local events.
