2014 Annual Report

“The love of one’s country is a splendid thing. But why should love stop at the border?” -- Pablo Casals Spanish Cellist, Composed music for UN Anthem for world peace, 1963 Presidential Medal of Freedom

P

ablo Casals understood that borders are important in providing a people with national identity, but he also knew that love and friendship should not be constrained by geopolitical boundaries. At International House, we also believe in the power of our common humanity. There are people who come through our doors who have crossed dangerous borders to get here, fleeing persecution, hardship and violence in their home countries. Others arrive as high-level visitors and then return to their native lands with a better understanding of American institutions and culture. Whatever the circumstance, International House provides welcome, respect, and resources for building understanding or a better life.

I

like to think that International House is breaking down barriers and creating a community that is unbound, where love does not stop at borders. And, we couldn’t do it without you. Let’s work together for a global Charlotte where international diversity is appreciated and celebrated!

W

e are pleased to present you with this report of our 2014 programs and services. Thank you so much for your support.
