Oncology deals with the study of cancer and tumours. Cancer is one of the most feared diseases amongst humans. An oncologist is a doctor who has an expertise in treating cancer and provides medical care to the cancer-affected individuals. Cancer has many types and due to the same, there are different types of oncologists too. Broadly, the field of oncology is divided into three categories namely, medical, surgical and radiation. Every surgical oncology hospital in India has an expert team of medical and radiation oncologists too. Many a times patients need a combination of treatments depending upon the severity of cancer, in such cases, a team of doctors is appointed to provide effective diagnosis and treatment to the patient. The main task in treating cancer is to understand its symptoms and signs well in time which can lead to the commencement of the speedy treatment process. A medical oncologist is the most common oncologist you will come across. This oncologist specializes in diagnosing and treating cancer using chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and biological therapy. Some patients along with a medical oncologist also need other oncology experts for treatment. 
