01 FOREWORD

DR. ANDREW DAVIES Head of School

The 2022-23 school year at ISB is really one to celebrate. With pandemic restrictions lifted, the real ISB returned with activities and trips galore, the return of parents on campus, and uninhibited learning practices in classrooms. Given the previous two years, these were very happy times. With respect to student learning, we were able to make substantial progress on our Strategic Learning Plan. This included work on enhancing our abilities with respect to Pedagogy, Collaboration & Teacher Efficacy, Innovative Practices, and Using Data to Improve Learning. As we do every year, we also improved the school’s capacity in the areas of Curriculum, Technology, Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners, DEIJ, Learner Attributes and Student Wellbeing. In terms of external test results, we began the year with the IB results from the May 2022 examination session and these were very encouraging with a 98% pass rate, 3 students scoring a perfect score of 45, 26 students scoring over 40 points and an average IB Diploma score of 36. MAP and ISA results this year were also strong relative to comparable schools, and our graduates have again gained admission into universities and colleges of their choice around the world. Annual facility enhancements continue at pace. The Elementary School gym was refurbished last summer, while also in the athletics area preparatory work was completed for the renovation of the auxiliary gym and the fitness center. Board approval was also granted for a significant renovation of the Chevron Theater in the 2023-24 school year.

FOREWORD We are very grateful to all of our community for their continued support and we look forward to decades of continued growth and development. Gaby and I are retiring to France and we feel incredibly privileged to have worked at ISB these past three decades. We would like to express our immense appreciation to the ISB community for the support, care, friendships, and amazing experiences over the last 30 years. Not many people in life can say they have truly loved the institution they work with and we feel very grateful for this. Sincerely,

Elephant Day To honor our departing Head of School, Dr. Andy Davies, for one day only, we switched our beloved school mascot, the black panther, for a very regal elephant! Why? Well, Dr. Davies has a passion for elephants and has often said that the ISB mascot should be an elephant; he joked that he wished we had an elephant on campus. So we made his dream come true for one day, with over 3000 elephants on campus - in the form of students, teachers and staff. We switched out our panther school uniforms for elephant ones, we sent each other bananagrams, and we cheered each other on - not with our usual ‘Go Panthers!’ but ‘Go Elephants!’. We also gifted Dr. Davies with a certificate of adoption for a young rescue elephant living a blissful life at Save Elephant Foundation - มูลนิธิอนุรักษ์ช้างและสิ่งแวดล้อม. Dr. Andy Davies, the Elephant, will be cared for thanks to generous donations from the ISB community. We couldn’t think of a more fitting tribute to Dr. Davies and his +30 years of dedicated service to ISB than the gift of an Elephant Day in his honor. #OnceAnElephantAlwaysAnElephant #GoBananasForAndy #ISB #Respect #Care #Gratitude #Commitment #Community #ISBangkok #InternationalSchoolBangkok #WhereDoesAnElephantKeepHisBananasInHisTrunk

02 LEADERSHIP

AJARN USA SOMBOON Headmistress

International School Bangkok (ISB) stands today largely through its community, and through this community, we build relationships. It is those close relationships to our community and beyond, whether it be in Nonthaburi or with various outposts of the government, that allow us to be a pivotal voice in the development of not only the education our students receive, but of the education received across Thailand. Each year, ISB solidifies its position in the educational tapestry of Thailand. The Office of Private Education Commission (OPEC) under the Ministry of Education (MOE) entrusts us with a board position working to develop private education in Thailand. Additionally, with a separate position in the Teacher’s Council of Thailand, on behalf of ISB, I have worked to assure that teachers and coaches meet and exceed their expectations. This eases our ability to attract the best to lead our classrooms. As an advisor in the Parliament Education Committee, the ability to voice our concerns in the updated National Education Act, including the Private Education Act, and numerous other avenues, we have been able to attest to the quality of education we deliver and provide standards that the framework of education in Thailand benefit from. Our government liaison team works closely with the various government sectors to assure our expatriate teachers and staff can focus on our students first. Working closely with local government officials from the beginning also allowed us to navigate the pandemic safely and in line with the Ministry of Public Health and MOE. Now, post-pandemic, we have become recognized as a trusted organization in the local community. The International Schools Association of Thailand (ISAT), the organization that represents all international schools in Thailand is housed on our very own campus, and this demonstrates our

LEADERSHIP role as a leader in this educational arm in the country. With twenty years of being housed on the ISAT President’s affiliated campus, we have grown with making the organization both recognized and respected. Last year, our school was graciously invited to participate in the upcoming Promotion of Academic Olympiad and Development of Science Education Foundation commemorating the 100th anniversary of the late HRH Princess Galayani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanadrindra. Our very own Jennifer DeLashmuttt and Jonathan Eales will be hosting workshops in November 2023. Nonthaburi and Bangkok are not the only local communities we impact. Each year, our school supports Racha Prachanukroh 35 School ( R 35 ) in Phang Nga Province since the devastation they sustained in 2002 after the tsunami and Nongyaplong Witthaya School in Phetburi Province located in the community that supports our Environmental Wilderness Center (EWC). In June 2023, our school hosted Triam Udom Suksa from Phaya Thai in Bangkok as we shared with them the ideals and management that make our school successful. Their school, a traditional leader in Thai education, was able to be open to see our strengths as we shared ideas that have made us a leader in international education in Asia. The last, but most important community that has led us through each and every year is our parent community. Our parents are leaders in their fields and are the largest supporters of our school. This network of parents supports all aspects of our school to make things run smoothly. Apart from this network, they bring with them their expertise in creating a positive atmosphere on campus, whether it be the Parent Teachers Association (PTA), volunteering with the International Family Fair or in the Booster Hut, supporting our students each and every day.

The Board also ensures that we are true to the ISB Mission: to inspire students to achieve their academic and personal potential; be passionate, reflective learners; become caring global citizens; and lead healthy, active, and balanced lives.

One of the most important things about ISB is the clear, unwavering dedication to our mission, attributes, and values. For us, as an organization and as a community, these ideals shape our thoughts and actions and guide our way into the future. LEARNING UPDATE

DEBI CASKEY Deputy Head of School for Learning

The 2022-23 school year at International School Bangkok (ISB) witnessed a vibrant array of learning activities that aimed to foster holistic development, ignite curiosity, and promote a love for learning among our diverse student body. With a commitment to providing an enriching educational experience, ISB follows a comprehensive curriculum and engages students in innovative and interactive learning activities that transcends traditional classroom boundaries. ISB teachers planned learning activities that encouraged students to investigate real-world problems, collaborate with peers, and develop critical thinking skills while working on projects that have practical applications. From designing and presenting sustainability plans for the school to exploring scientific concepts through virtual reality, students were empowered to take ownership of their learning and delve into topics of personal interest. This inquiry approach not only honed our students’ academic skills but also nurtured their creativity, collaborative skills, and problem-solving abilities. ISB’s commitment to creating globally-minded citizens was evident through its many cultural learning opportunities. As a school dedicated to empowering our students to make a difference in an increasingly complex world, fostering cross-cultural understanding is essential, and the school seized this opportunity during the 2022-23 academic year. We celebrated our host country’s culture throughout the year through language classes and cultural events. Our students engaged with students from schools across the globe in events such as IASAS athletic and arts competitions and exchanges, service projects supporting communities throughout Thailand, and service learning opportunities outside of Thailand that helped our students, not only gain a deeper appreciation for diversity, but also honed their communication skills and developed a broader perspective on global issues. The 2022-23 school year witnessed ISB’s continued commitment to integrating technology into its teaching methods. The school recognizes that in a digital age, equipping students with

LEADERSHIP technological skills and digital literacy is imperative. Interactive virtual labs, coding classes and clubs, and immersive simulations in network security were just a few ways in which ISB harnessed technology to enhance learning experiences. By blending traditional pedagogy with innovative tools and approaches (think gamification), the school ensures that students are well-prepared to thrive in an increasingly digital world while fostering adaptability, digital responsibility and technological proficiency. ISB’s dedication to community engagement remained unwavering throughout the school year. Students were encouraged to actively participate in service-learning projects that aimed to make a positive impact on their communities. From organizing food drives to collaborating with local NGOs, students experienced firsthand the transformative power of giving back to their community. Eco service trips also allowed students to take direct action to preserve our world, while also learning about innovative solutions to the environmental challenges facing everyone. These initiatives not only instilled a sense of social responsibility but also reinforced the importance of responsibility, care, and respect; values that extend beyond academics and contribute to the development of well-rounded individuals who understand and seek ways to make a difference in their local communities as well as the greater global community. The Tedx talks shared by students this year highlighted our students’ keen awareness of the issues facing their generation as they look to a future that is in their hands. The school year saw students actively involved in art exhibitions, music recitals, and drama productions that showcased their creativity and artistic talents. Simultaneously, a wide range of sports activities, including inter-school competitions and wellness programs, ensured that students remained physically active and understood the importance of maintaining a healthy, active, balanced lifestyle. The arts and sports programs complemented academic learning, fostering commitment, creativity, social-intelligence, and balance. ISB recognizes the importance of student well-being in the learning process. To promote a holistic approach to education, the school integrated wellness and mindful practices into the curriculum. From dedicated wellness classes to mindfulness moments embedded in daily routines, students learned to manage stress, develop emotional intelligence, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. These life skills were not only valuable for academic success but also for their personal growth and overall happiness. The 2022-23 school year at International School Bangkok saw our students learning and growing in a nurturing environment, supported by dedicated educators who designed meaningful experiences that are meaningful and transferable learning and provided the foundations for our Panthers’ next steps as learners and globally-minded, passionate participants in their world.

REBECCA LAU Director of Admissions

I am humbled and honored to reflect on our achievements and share our vision for the future. First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude to the entire ISB community for their unwavering support and collaboration throughout my inaugural year as the Admissions Director. The warm welcome and guidance I received from faculty, staff, students, and parents have been instrumental in our accomplishments. One of the highlights of the past year was the successful enrollment of over 300 new students, each bringing their unique talents and perspectives to our vibrant community. Welcoming these young minds has not only expanded our student body but has also enriched our school culture. Witnessing the seamless integration of these students into our diverse community has been a true testament to the inclusive environment we strive to cultivate. I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to our dedicated Admissions team for their tireless efforts in ensuring a smooth admissions process for all new and prospective families. Their commitment to personalized attention, clear communication, and efficient handling of applications has played a significant role in attracting and enrolling these new students.

ALUMNI

HAROLD ALBERT Alumni Coordinator

As ISB entered its 72nd year of existence, one of the most noteworthy elements of this long history is the breadth and depth of our ISB alumni. From the very first graduating class in 1957 to the most recent graduates in May of 2023, our ISB alumni have contributed not only in Thailand and in the U.S., but all over the planet. We in the ISB Alumni office are especially proud of our wonderful Panther Alumni! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the alumni events that were typically part of our school calendar were temporarily suspended. This past year, however, we were determined to remain active and connected. Locally, ISB alumni started to visit our Pakkret campus as the number of ISB visits increased by leaps and bounds. Scores of former ISB students graced our friendly confines this year. As is typical, the visiting alumni were amazed and astounded by the improvements that have been made over the years. Kudos to our ISB Leadership team and our Building and Grounds staff for making International School Bangkok one of the most amazing school facilities in the entire world. Overseas, the ISB Network Alumni Association did its part in keeping ISB alumni connected as the organization, led by an amazing leadership team, hosted an awesome reunion August 4 – 6 in Daytona Beach, Florida. This incredible team included President Kathy Beaird, Director of Reunions Teresa Martin, Director of Communications Kate Boslet, Vice President Suzanne Cano Meeker, Director of Technology Rao Vedurumudi, and Secretary Jameela “Cricket” Fluker Lanza. Some 350 ISB alumni attended this wonderful event, and each of the participants cannot wait until the next event in two years. As a first-time attendee, I was determined to make my presence felt by creating ten posters that graced the main entrance to the reunion facility. Seven of these posters depicted the

WHO WE ARE seven decades of the ISB History Wall with QR codes for the associated video presentations, while the other posters recognized such ISB legends as Director of Physical Education and Athletics Physical Education Rajendra, and ISB’s very own member of the Thai Royal Family, Mom Betty Yugala. I was also fortunate to be invited to make a presentation talking a bit about the state of alumni at the current campus, as well as astounding one and all with my still razor sharp memory. It is true - I do still remember each and every one of my former students from the 1980s! Most memorable for me, however, was the fact that I was able to connect with class of 1957 alumnus, Chuck McAndrew, and Angeline Rajendra Behrend and her son, the daughter and grandson of the legendary Physical Education Rajendra.1957 alumnus McAndrew told priceless stories about his time in Bangkok during the 1956-57 school year, while meeting relatives of the amazing Mr. Rajendra has been a goal for me for many, many years. As always the ISB Alumni Office has kept active by producing numerous stories about alumni all over the world. These include alumni who are talented in the arts, business, athletics, politics, and community service. Our Alumni Office has also continued to extend its reach by connecting with ISB alumni via Facebook and LinkedIn. Scores of ISB alumni have reconnected to ISB this past year, and with a new, dedicated ISB website online, we anticipate reaching even more ISB Panthers during the course of the 2023-2024 school year as we will endeavor to expand our reach via Linkedin.

YOK WEROJN PTA President

ISB’s Parent Teacher Auxiliary (PTA) is a voluntary group that works with parents, staff and students to further enhance the student experience, support the school and create community bonds. We serve as a bridge between parents and our fabulous staff. PTA holds an array of community events over the course of each school year. Starting the first semester with our Back to School Coffee, En Nichi, Intercultural Week, Cookie Day to bond with our parents, students and staff across campus. Following the second semester with Intercultural Family Fair (IFF), Chinese and Thai Food Fairs and Staff Appreciation Lunch to strengthen the bond within the community. Parent volunteers are vital on a daily basis in the PTA Lost and Found corner and on Popcorn Fridays. Our signature Adult Education program offers more than 30 classes to the community to broaden social circles and learn new skills. We also issued grants up to 200,000 baht to support students’ initiatives, inviting speakers and replenishing equipment by requests from staff. 04 YEAR HIGHLIGHTS

S

Peace Day We gathered together as a whole school for the first time in nearly four years for this year’s annual Peace Day assembly in Rajendra Hall. This assembly was put together by a committee of our High School Global Issues Network club, Middle School and Elementary School students, along with their supervisors. The assembly marked a celebration of the United Nations Peace Day, with the theme this year of “End Racism. Build Peace.” The mediums of art, poetry, storytelling, music, film, and dance provided an opportunity for our school community to think about the power each of us has to stand up against injustice and prejudice to build peace together. The poem and song that our students read and sang together sent an empowering and unifying message “When they try to divide us, it will only unite us! I lift my voice!” Thank you to our incredible students and faculty for putting together this great whole school assembly! #Courage #Care #Respect #SociallyIntelligent #GloballyMinded #ISB #ISBangkok #InternationalSchoolBangkok

Nurturing Student Achievement through Responsive Teaching

Student achievement and growth is at the heart of our educational journey. Throughout the 2022-23 academic year, our dedicated educators embraced the philosophy of responsive teaching, recognizing that each student’s journey is unique. By tailoring our instructional approaches to meet the diverse needs, learning styles, and interests of our students, we have created an environment where every child can flourish. Our commitment to responsive teaching ensures that students not only meet academic milestones but also develop a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom.

Enriching Experiences Through Field Trips

The importance of hands-on learning experiences was highlighted through a variety of field trips that our students eagerly participated in. From the Barge trip that offered Grade 4 students a unique perspective on the Chao Phraya River, to the adventurous journey to Khao Yai that provided them with insights into Thailand’s rich biodiversity. Our Grade 5 students explored the cultural and historical significance of Chanthaburi, while Grade 1 students marveled at the wonders of nature at the Bangkok Butterfly Garden. Our Kindergarten students enjoyed a delightful visit to the local Bumblebee Library. These, in addition to other field trips, not only enriched our students’ understanding but also fostered a sense of wonder and curiosity.

YEAR HIGHLIGHTS

Author Visit: Nurturing Love for Reading

We were honored to welcome author Christina Soontornvat to our school, an event that illuminated the joys of literature for our students. Interacting with published authors allows our young readers to see the magic behind the stories and kindles a lifelong love for reading.

Intercultural Week: Celebrating Diversity and Connection

Our Intercultural Week was a celebration of the vibrant tapestry of cultures that make up our ISB community. Parents shared aspects of their cultures with students, emphasizing the interconnectedness of our world. This experience fostered cultural awareness, respect, and unity among our students.

Throughout the year, our school community came together in special assemblies that enriched our shared experiences. The Welcome Assembly set the tone for the year, the Festival of Lights Assembly celebrated diversity, the Peace Day Assembly emphasized unity and empathy, and the End of Year Farewell Assembly was a poignant farewell to a successful year.

Music “Celebrations of Learning”: Harmony in Togetherness

Parents were invited to immerse themselves in the Music Program during the “Celebrations of Learning.” This harmonious event allowed families to participate in their children’s musical journey, strengthening the bond between school and home.

As we celebrate the culmination of this academic year, we anticipate the possibilities that lie ahead. The achievements, experiences, and memories of this year will undoubtedly shape our path toward continued growth and excellence.

Middle School, building community through learning experiences The 2022-23 school year brought Middle School closer to a return to normalcy. As the requirements of the global pandemic receded, MS was able to provide all of the experiences we value, fostering our community of care and learning. While the year started with some COVID-19 restrictions still in place, we were quickly able to get back to the key elements of our Middle School program. It was terrific to see Middle School’s commitment to learning, creativity, and compassion, throughout the year. In classrooms, students fully engaged in coursework again, collaborating on problems, discussing issues, and grappling with challenging ideas. Science classes inquired through hands-on experiments, engaged in engineering and coding through robotics work, and further developed students’ use of the scientific method. In mathematics classes, students regularly collaborated through complex problem solving as they discussed and developed their conceptual understanding. In English and Social Studies classes, students grew as readers and writers, engaging with a variety of text types and genres and furthering their connection with the world and human condition. And maybe, mostly drastically different from our online schooling years, students were active at school again engaging in PE-Wellness learning that taught teamwork, built coordination and stamina, and developed fitness and overall well-being.

All MS students also attended our Wild Panthers Outdoor Education program for the first time in several years. At ISB’s Environmental Wilderness Campus (EWC), students engaged in outdoor learning and challenges, developing the Attributes of Adaptability, Social-Intelligence, and Self-Management, as they spent time outdoors and in nature. Our EWC provided a safe and comfortable base of operations for students’ outdoor experiences and the care and attention of our Wild Panthers teacher team helped students build confidence and independence in this short time away from home. 2022-23 was also a year of compassion and service to others. Students dedicated time and effort to enrich the communities around them. Students collected items for iCare, sponsored and hosted school events for pet adoption, raised environmental awareness, participated in service-minded conferences, and engaged in eco- and grade 7-trips focused on Thailand’s environmental and human needs (see article on Grade 7 Service Trips). Middle School is a time of learning experiences, geared toward developing passion and interests, and contributing to the wider good. The Middle School 2022-23 school year brought about so much of the learning we value for our students. We are proud of our MS students and teachers for their dedication to the commitment of enriching communities and we are so incredibly grateful to have been able to provide such rich learning experiences to build a healthy and caring community.

YEAR HIGHLIGHTS

Students developed ISB’s Attributes, as well, including Global Citizenship, SocialIntelligence, and Creativity. Students shared spaces, collaborated on class projects and in discussions, and gathered fully in assemblies and fun spirit events. Middle School Model United Nations participated in two conferences (one hosted at ISB) with many honorable mentions and best delegate awards. Eleven ISB MS students participated in the World Scholar’s Cup, earning many medals in a Bangkok round of over 400 students. Our art exhibits and drama productions were performed in front of live audiences, with amazing concerts by our choirs, bands, and orchestras and Charlie Brown the Musical showcasing our studentactors’ talents. It was a real showcase of dedication, talent, and creativity throughout the year in middle school.

Grade 7 Class Service Trips A centerpiece of the ISB Middle School experience is the Grade 7 service learning trips. In their second year of running, these trips provide Grade 7 students the opportunity to understand and interact with the challenges that Thailand faces as it tries to balance human needs against environmental concerns. Traveling in groups of 20-25, Grade 7 students explored one of seven locations across Thailand. Each trip worked with organizations tackling important issues including: shark conservation, human-elephant coexistence, supporting local regenerative farming practices, understanding different biomes, addressing hunger and poverty, and reducing plastic waste to promote sustainable living. Out-of-class service learning experiences provide our students with the opportunity to connect with the world around them in a way that cannot be replicated in a traditional classroom setting. -Kerry Dyke, the MS Service Learning Coordinator. On these experiential trips, students get hands-on experience with real-life challenges in Thailand, working with professionals on sustainable solutions that preserve the environment while developing a deeper understanding the economic and societal needs of the local communities. By working with organizations that are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of people, animals, and our planet, our students learn about the importance of sustainability, empathy, and social responsibility. Students also develop important life skills such as adaptability, teamwork, resilience, and independence, all connected to our desired ISB Attributes. On their own, the trips are powerful experiences. In Middle School, we encourage continued student action in order to sustain a positive impact on the issue that students experienced. Upon returning from the trips, Grade 7 students prepared solutions connected to the challenges they encountered on the trips. Their projects were shared with the community at our ISB Action Project Day Fair. Students showcased what they learned and how they could continue to support the organizations and/or issues they encountered. These student projects demonstrated innovative thinking, global mindedness, and a genuine investment in enriching communities around Thailand.

A Year of Reunion: Embracing In-Person Learning

Central to this academic year is the milestone of a triumphant return to full in-person learning, relatively unhampered by disruptions and restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic. The ISB community created a safe and welcoming environment where students and educators reunited in person, fostering an interactive and collaborative learning environment. The halls reverberated with the excitement of reconnection, exchanging ideas, and the joy of knowledge pursuit. We could see smiling faces and once again were able to hear everyone clearly!

High School Highlights:

The High School division witnessed a year brimming with accomplishments and transformative experiences. Notably, the DELVE (Discover, Explore, Learn, Venture, Engage) program took center stage in December, enhancing our students’ educational journey through diverse experiential learning opportunities. We were able to expand our offerings to include international trips for the first time in many years.

YEAR HIGHLIGHTS

Cultivating Global Citizens: DELVE Adventures Near and Far

The DELVE program offered many opportunities for students to immerse themselves in different cultures, develop empathy, and contribute positively to communities. Our students engaged in overseas trips that ranged from the Cambodia Service & Community Insight project to the Cebu, Philippines Marine Adventure & Service initiative. From the Laos Service Learning Project to Nepal’s Trekking and Service endeavor, our students displayed commendable dedication and passion for making a difference on a global scale. The program’s reach extended beyond borders, offering cultural immersion and service opportunities. Local trips like “Save Our Seas (SOS!)” and “Shark Guardian” underscored environmental stewardship and marine conservation. Activities like “Cycling/Biking in Thailand,” “Elephant Nature Park,” and “Marine Conservation” spotlighted Thailand’s diversity while nurturing environmental responsibility. The DELVE Local Trips allowed students to engage deeply with local communities and make meaningful contributions. From “Building an Inclusive Bangkok” to “Habitat for Humanity,” students honed empathy, cultural understanding, and commitment to positive change. These initiatives epitomize ISB’s dedication to enriching local communities and nurturing responsible global citizens.

Project-Based Learning Blooms at ISB in the Rooftop Garden High School students worked hard on a remarkable project: building and designing a community garden on the rooftop of the Multipurpose Building in the center of our campus. The garden was a collaborative effort of the High School (HS) Green Panthers club, HS Community Build club, HS Science Department, Building and Grounds Department, and ISB’s Chief Financial Officer, Marc De Vries. Together they transformed an empty space into a vibrant community garden, fostering respect, care, creativity, and commitment. CHRIS MOTT Athletics Director

The Year of Athletics at International School Bangkok has been one of excitement, energy and passion. Panther Athletics Highlights After the successful move of Panther Athletics into the new Athletics office we have experienced anticipated changes in the participation levels in addition to the building of pathways for students. Conversations between scholastic coaches and outside providers have become the norm. Students can now be engaged in a structure of year round programs which meet their passions. The conversations and interactions between the 154 coaching staff have been the greatest changes and we see real potential in how these relations will continue to strengthen our programs. We would also like to highlight these main events: • • •

Hosted Swimfest event in November - over 1,000 swimmers from all over the country Hosted ISB International Splash Meet - around 800 swimmers from multiple countries Hosted ISB Black & Gold Gymnastics - almost 400 gymnastics from different schools/teams

YEAR HIGHLIGHTS

ATHLETICS

Under 11 Highlights The under 11 programs saw some of the greatest growth in the 2022-23 school year. The Athletics program focused on inclusion and giving everyone an opportunity to participate in this first year back from Covid restrictions. All students who wanted to participate were given the opportunity to play. However, we didn’t expect so many students to join, and it put a bit of a strain on facilities and coaching staff. Moving forward, we were able to project and plan ahead to determine a way for students to participate while also keeping in mind optimal numbers for development and facilities usage. Having flexibility on timing and the ability to put caps on programs where needed, as well as adjusting enrollment parameters based on developmental reasons) has also allowed for a better overall program set up for 2023-24. Some of the highlights from the U11 year are include: • Record number of sign ups– for example, we had 10 teams for soccer and basketball season and over 70 students each in volleyball and tennis. • ISB hosted seven invitational or BMAC tournaments. • Developing sense of commitment and team for our Elementary students who are able to now participate in two practices a week

Under 12 and Under 14 Highlights we focused on inclusion and trying to provide opportunities for all to participate. All students who wanted to participate did so and we saw many programs reach record numbers at tryouts. This year helped to provide insight into the balance between providing competitive opportunities, as well as developmental opportunities for athletes and we used this insight to plan ahead for the 2023-24 school year. Some of the highlights of the U12/U14 year include: • Hosted 10 invitational or BMAC tournaments for MS ◦ 1st place for U12 XC, U14 G XC, U12 & U14 Boys Softball, U14 G Badminton ◦ 2nd place for U14 G & B Tennis, U12 G & B Volleyball, U14 G Volleyball, U12 G Tennis, U14 B Badminton • Large number of sign ups and on average 69% of MS participating in at least 1 sport ◦ E.g. 37 boys for U14 basketball, 41 girls for U14 volleyball, 21 girls U12 volleyball, 42 boys for U14 soccer, 29 girls for U14 track, 33 girls for U14 touch, 34 students for developmental badminton club • Out of 243 unique athletes in MS, 109 were female and 145 were male • Season 4 was our biggest season– no end of year fatigue here!

She grew up attending International Schools and has a firm grasp on what it means to be a team player. Kelley continues to make positive changes in the lives of ISB students. We are very fortunate to have Kelley at ISB and look forward to continuing to see her develop our athletics programs.

New Staff in the Athletics Office In the 2022-23 School Year we had a number of new staff join the Athletics Office. We welcomed:

Punnanunt Wisuppakan (Fon) - Khun Fon has joined the Athletics Office most recently from the Panther Den, and is the lead on all Athletic pay to play programs for ISB. She handles all of the online sign up, works with and leads our sport coordinators and continues to handle a high volume of sign ups. While we have a wonderful team here in the Athletics office much of what we are able to achieve is due to Khun Fon and her calmness, patience and high work output. Thawit Piakpia - Khun Thawit has joined the Athletics Office as our resident technology expert. He was previously working in the Elementary school as an IA. He has a strong passion for Athletics and has made tremendous progress in delivering our technology needs. Khun Thawit’s focus is in delivering scoring, timing, utilization of the video screens and most recently the streaming of games and tournaments. Khun Thawit is also the Varsity Boys Volleyball coach. Sataporn Nilthorn (Manow) - Khun Manow has joined ISB Athletics team, most recently from working in Australia. Khun Manow has worked closely with Kelley McKenna in the U11, U12 and U14 teams this past year. We welcome her to the team and know she will continue to have a positive impact on the students.

Director of Arts, Activities & Community Engagement

Panther Activities is a pay-to-play program that complements our scholastic arts and activities programs at ISB. Offerings include everything from dance to dodge ball, trumpet to Tae Kwon Do, and now in its second year, Panther Xtreme, offering students opportunities to participate in a variety of board sports. With over 100 instructors involved and 5000+ registrations annually, Panther Activities truly has something for everybody, providing active, creative, diverse, and collaborative opportunities for all of our students. Returning to school following the pandemic, students were offered a plethora of opportunities through four seasons of Panther Activities including: visual arts and design-tech classes through Panther Arts; ballet, jazz, hip-hop, modern and tap through Panther Dance; brass, woodwind, piano, percussion, string and voice lessons through Panther Music; mother tongue languages through the Panther Native Language Academy and skateboarding, skimboarding, surf-skating, and wakeboarding through our newest after school activities program, Panther Xtreme. A return to normal activities brought with it elation and perhaps a greater appreciation for what had been missing - active, creative, diverse, and collaborative in-person opportunities for all kids!

ENVIRONMENTAL WILDERNESS CAMPUS

ELLIOTT BOWYER EWC Director

OUTDOOR EDUCATION 2022-23 has been an extremely busy year at the EWC. The Nong Ya Plong Water Management Authority continues to increase the capacity of the Mae Prajan reservoir to store water, which directly impacts our water programs for kayaking and canoeing. The Grade 8 water program was successfully executed with students challenged to complete a Search & Rescue scenario in canoes and kayaks while navigating the lake.

Our Grade 7 program saw the development of a new orienteering course testing students’ navigation skills in a timed event. The Grade 7 Rock Climbing Program was incredibly successful, and the development of the new climbing routes has proved challenging and extremely rewarding for the students. This program relies strongly on the close relationship with the ‘Wat Khao Kling’ temple at Khao Yoi.

WELLBEING

Grade 6 returned after a one year hiatus during Covid. The Grade 6 program continues to provide a wonderful base in outdoor systems and knowledge while providing challenges across different terrain and pushing the students’ perseverance and determination.

The High School Astronomy club also came to the EWC for their annual retreat. Using telescopes kindly donated by the PTA, students experienced the stars and planets without light pollution. IB Geography students also completed their Internal Assessment on their 3 day 2 night trip to the EWC. The IB Diploma Biology and Environmental Systems & Societies (ESS) students came to the EWC for a 3-day expedition to complete fieldwork necessary for internal assessment, allowing students to apply their learning to their outside environment. Grade 5 students were hosted at the EWC for their “ Crossing the Bridge” program. This celebrates and reinforces the learning and personal development that each student has gained in Elementary School and prepares students for their future learning journey in Middle School. Established and operational now for 5 years, one of the key strategic goals of the EWC is to become the leading base for elite instructor training for outdoor education in Asia. We hosted the JUMP Foundation instructor training program, and this was extremely successful. We continue to partner with exceptional and recognised outdoor organizations to provide training for educators in this field.

ISB International School Bangkok

EWC FACILITY ISB is one of the few schools in the world that has its own outdoor campus, with our own tailored experiential education program that reflects our curriculum goals and objectives. This year’s key improvements at the EWC included: • installation of handrails from the classroom to cafeteria • motorcycle shed for staff • purpose built maintenance workshop • refit bathroom for wheelchair access Program wise we also opened new trails for orienteering activities and opened a new hiking trail in the hills immediately north of the EWC.

WELLBEING

Community Project This year following a successful drive for sponsorship, the EWC kindly received donations of 10 large trees to replace trees lost during storms. These trees were generously sponsored by staff, students and Alumni.

NATCHALAI (Apple) CHUBOONRAJ B&G Supervisor

When I look back to 2022-23, the highlight for me has to be the High School Graduation Ceremony. It encompasses everything that the B&G team stands for - commitment and teamwork. It takes five days to transform our largest gym space, the Rajendra Hall, into a Black and Gold masterpiece ceremony space, plus the ES Gym into a Reception Hall. We start from the top down, so students can continue to use the floor space initially, before we move in and carpet the floors. 70 of the 86 members of the B&G team are involved in just this event, so it truly is a team effort. We were honored that Mr Alexander, High School Principal, invited parents and guests to give us a round of applause this year to recognize our efforts. Another similar event is the IFF- the International Family Fair - in February, where we create a safe community event for over 3000 people who visit the Fair on campus, as well as the Swim Festival, when we welcome 1500 people including vendors. For the Swim Fest, we set up a fully air conditioned tent and ensure that everything is safe and beautiful. Most people would not realize the work that goes into creating these wonderful school events, and that’s a good thing as everyone would soon notice if things went wrong! I am very fortunate to have the ‘dream team’ within B&G - with the assistance of Khun Yok on events and Khun Gong for Sports, we make everything happen to a very high standard. I am often called ‘Magic Fingers’, which may be true, but my team is the hand, the arm, the whole body! The scope of B&G’s work covers Housekeeping, Event and Sports/Community/Arts/Activities Setup, Gardening, Supporting Learning and Special Projects. Our Housekeeping team ensures that the highest degree of quality care is maintained across the school at all times. They also source and maintain school furniture from Thailand and internationally, whilst our Gardening team maintain and develop our beautiful campus exterior. Since 2021, we have been entrusted with the landscaping of the school. Previous to this, we would usually hire a landscaping company, but we have worked on building capacity and expertise in house for a number of years to now have artistic control over the site. You can see recent evidence of our work across the ES Playgrounds and around the ES Cafeteria. The ‘70 Trees’ project, the planting of small and medium trees to celebrate the 70th anniversary of ISB, was a real joy to bring to life for our

Green Panthers students. You’ll see that some of the 30cm saplings planted in 2021 have grown to around 2 meters - this has only been achieved with expert care and a lot of love! Our work with the Green Panthers High School Club in the last year has been largely based around the Rooftop Garden Project. We were involved from the beginning, working with students and teachers, to help to create the space, source the materials and irrigation system and advise on the type of vegetables that can grow in Thailand. Personally, myself and the team learned along with the students on how to successfully plant and grow different plants. For example, we created a Pumpkin patch in the rooftop garden, but we soon realized that the climate was too harsh for non-native pumpkins, and we lost the crop. However, we have found a new, more suitable site at ground level, and are hopeful for ISB pumpkins this coming year! Lower down the school, we have worked with PK2 to create their outdoor learning space - one example of this is the recycling of cut trees from campus to create chairs, plates, art materials and much more, as well as the creation of their Mud Kitchen. I am sure that our youngest Panthers will enjoy their outdoor learning as much as we enjoyed helping them create it. Another new addition to the wonderful ISB facilities is the newly refurbished ES Gym. It is now alive with the energy of our young Panthers, but getting this gym ready was a real challenge! We had just one afternoon to get this space ready for the contractors to move in at the end of the school year. I assembled a team of 30 to clear out and safely store all sports equipment once the students had left for the day - it was quite the feat of organization! And of course, once the gym was complete, everything had to go back in! It was great to see this facility, plus the new Athletics Office, and Athletics Storage, work so well. You might think that after another busy year at school, B&G can put their feet up during the summer… of course this is not the case - it is a super busy time for us. We work throughout all school holidays to maintain the buildings, landscaping the 36 acre campus and support any events and big building projects. The school runs seven days a week, so holidays are our time to get some big projects done. And once students, staff and teachers return to campus… it all starts again!

IB RESULTS AND OTHER ACADEMIC RESULTS

JUSTYNA MCMILLAN High School Dean of Academics

The Graduating Class of 2023: Resilience, Perseverance, Tenacity In the dynamic landscape of education today, International School Bangkok (ISB) strives to prepare students with a well-rounded, challenging, and rigorous education that propels them into the future they choose to pursue. The International Baccalaureate (IB) is one of the pathways we offer to graduation that prepares students to think critically, question, and have the courage to challenge themselves and the world around them. As we reflect on the IB results for the Class of 2023, we celebrate the achievements of our graduates. Their results demonstrate two core values that ISB instills - commitment and courage. The Class of 2023 undeniably faced many challenges in preparation for their IB studies. Their entire High School experience was overshadowed by COVID-19 and all the disruptions that came along with spells in virtual learning. We are only now beginning to inquire into the longterm effects of the pandemic on education, but initial research clearly indicates that the pandemic had a negative effect not just on academics but also on our youth’s mental health. At ISB, we certainly saw evidence of both of these concerns over the last couple of years, more so than in previous cohorts in terms of IB readiness. These factors highlight the courage and commitment of the Class of 2023 in terms of their IB results when one considers the fact that these students were the first cohort in three years that had to cope with the full IB curriculum and assessment model, alongside a return to pre-pandemic grade boundaries. It makes us doubly proud of our students that even with these obstacles in front of them, the IB class of 2023 was able to achieve an ISB pre-COVID Diploma average of 34 points.

DEVELOPMENTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS The IB Diploma Programme is well known for being a very rigorous and challenging pre-university program. While we regularly celebrate the achievements of our students, we particularly champion the class of 2023 as they demonstrated great tenacity and perseverance during the two-year program. As an inclusive school, ISB believes that all of our students have the ability to pursue the full Diploma if they wish. We encourage all students to pursue their most rigorous program study as this is their best preparation for university. We are proud that our guiding beliefs of challenge by choice allows students with learning accommodations and from diverse language backgrounds to access and succeed in our IB Diploma program. We are proud to announce that 44% of our students from the class of 2023 received a bilingual diploma. This accomplishment speaks to our students’ prowess in embracing languages and their willingness to engage with diverse perspectives, as well as to the support from parents and the dedication of our language teachers. Adhering to ISB’s core mission of ‘enriching communities through the intellectual, humanitarian and creative thoughts and actions of our learners,’ ISB enrolled a significant number of students who were displaced due to COVID-19 and regional social unrest. These students modeled the ISB Learner Attributes as they joined our school mid-way through their IB Diploma Programme. They demonstrated a tremendous amount of courage and commitment in their IB studies as they adjusted to new surroundings and friendships. Our IB cohort of 2023 spanned the entire gamut of different abilities and IB readiness, and we are so proud of their collective results. Each student achieved or exceeded their personal potential, be that 24 or 43 Diploma points; we are immensely proud of this IB cohort. We always celebrate the academic achievements of our students and are equally excited to witness the positive impact the Class of 2023 will undoubtedly make on the global stage. Once a Panther, always a Panther!

DEBBIE MCDOWELL Head of University Counselling

University Destinations In line with the values and attributes of the school’s Mission and Vision, ISB University Counselors support students through a thoughtful, reflective, and well-researched post-secondary search and university application process. Our goal is to teach each student how to identify and evaluate a wide range of university and other post-secondary options around the world that complement their academic and personal achievements, talents, ambitions, and potential. Diversity among our student body is celebrated and the counselor partners with our students one-on-one, as individuals with unique needs and goals, and with their families to ensure that all of our students’ intellectual, personal, and social well-being are valued and affirmed. In addition, ISB University Counselors adhere to ethical standards established by internationally recognized professional associations of college and university counselors and admissions officers. Students are assigned a university counselor in January of Grade 10. Shortly thereafter, each student meets with their university counselor to discuss their grade 11 course selection and family meetings are set as needed. Starting in Grade 11, students attend Junior Seminar classes throughout the year. Lessons focus on self reflection and discovery, university priority and preferences, research of programs and universities, essay writing and university selection. Grade 11 students present their Junior Led Conference to their parents and counselor to discuss their university research and plans for applications the following year. During Grade 12, students continue with Senior Seminar in order to finalize their list for university applications,

The university counselors host parents and students at the Grade 12 Family University Night and Grade 11 Family University Night during the first semester each year. In the second semester, a second Grade 11 Family University Night is held in addition to a Grade 10 Family University Night. All of these presentations are designed to give an overview of various parts of the university research, selection and application process. In addition, the university counselors offer over 20 other presentations throughout the school year in the form of Parent University Coffees. Connecting with university representatives from around the world is an important endeavor for the university counselors. Participating in conferences such as Council of International Schools/ East Asian Regional Counsel of Schools Institute on International Admissions & Guidance, Counsel of International Schools Global Forum on International Admissions & Guidance and the International Association of College Admissions Counselors, allows university counselors to connect with university admissions officers while advocating for ISB and our students. ISB hosts hundreds of university admissions officers and representatives on campus yearly through large university fairs, mini fairs, small group and individual visits. One highlight of each year is the Greater Bangkok University Fair in which ISB hosts over 200 universities on campus in order to connect with our students and families. The Class of 2023 has had outstanding results in their university applications! Although not all students have completed the process yet, most students have successfully submitted their applications and received their results from the universities. Students applying to southern hemisphere universities and those with a different academic calendar are still working on applications. So details will be finalized for those students after applications to Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, and some European countries have been reported. Students in the Class of 2023 applied to 23 countries around the world and submitted over 1380 individual applications to 364 unique universities. Over 575 acceptances from 242 different universities in 17 different countries have been reported at this time. Admissions have been confirmed from universities in Australia, Canada, China, France, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom, and the United States. Other countries will be added to this list when all results are reported. We wish the best to our graduates and look forward to hearing back from them about their future successes and accomplishments.

HEALTH CENTER

DR. DHAVE SETABUTR Director of Health Center

The Health Center transitioned excitedly into the new year. Adhering to the Ministry of Public Health guidelines during the pandemic was a necessary, if sometimes arduous, task, but we persevered to get to this day, the day we could resume normality. By October, our last set of restrictions had been removed and activities had resumed to almost 100%. We were excited for our first school year with a return to a lot of what makes International School Bangkok (ISB) so special, our community. As measures in terms of tracking cases and strict hygiene protocols diminished post-pandemic, we were able to return to our most important job, assuring our student’s health and safety while under the care of ISB. With trips returning to Chiang Mai in Middle School, Ayutthaya in Elementary School, and DELVE overseas, our nurses traveled with our younger Panthers on their adventures to ensure safe care for them in case of emergency. As the Interscholastic Association of SouthEast Asian Schools (IASAS) returned to campus, our team assured that athletes complied with the necessary entry requirements during a time when travel restrictions were still in place for some. And when those athletes arrived to play on campus, our team stood by to assure their wellbeing should issues arise during competition. This past Fall we hosted our first full-scale health fair in years. Students across all of our divisions were able to enjoy interacting with their peers and vendors from around our community. With one of ISB’s mission points focused on our student’s leading healthy, active, and balanced lifestyles, the fair was able to introduce our community to inventive ways to lead healthy

WELLBEING lives whether it was with expert talks from some of our distinguished alumni physicians, Pilates demonstrations, or tasting some healthy treats made from acai berries (provided by an ISB alumni). Pamela Chayavichitsilp, M.D., a proud alumni and now parent, gave us great information on sun care through the eyes of a Dermatologist. Her personal ISB journey, featured in last year’s 70th Anniversary blog, highlights Panthers that go off and do great things and return back to the community they so much enjoyed. Minin Hentrakul, a senior, shared her own book focused on equipping adolescent girls with helpful information about growing up as a woman in today’s world. We anticipate this is just a signal of the great things she will do after her time at ISB. Every year our community comes together for our biannual Blood Drives. This past year we collected over 120+ units of blood from the Panther community. This life-saving measure was an asset to those in dire need of blood across Thailand. With Rh (-) blood types common in the western population and rare in Thailand, we understand the importance of expat donation to the local blood supply. Lastly, this past year saw our Health Center host our first ever vaccine clinic on campus. This opportunity provided our students and staff the opportunity to access important vaccines close to home. All in all, it was a special and eventful year that will be a barometer for what is to come. We thank our community for entrusting us and helping us keep your children safe.

DR. KEITH COLLINS Director of Student Services

Many of us are familiar with the age-old adage, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” With the backdrop of geopolitical events and a global pandemic causing significant disruptions in education, the Student Services dedicated their efforts throughout the year to embrace this principle of prevention through intervention. Our primary objective was to implement early intervention strategies, aiming to bridge gaps and minimize the likelihood of students requiring more extensive support services later on. As an MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) school, we ensure that all students have access to our comprehensive general program, known as Tier 1. Based on statistical data, we understand that approximately 15% of students will benefit from the general program along with supplementary services, denoted as Tier 2. Furthermore, we anticipate that around 5% of students will require a combination of the general program (Tier 1) and highly specialized support, categorized as Tier 3. These specialized services encompass areas such as Learning Support, Behavior, and Social-Emotional (Counseling). In an ideal educational setting, schools have the capacity to intervene at the early stage (Tier 2), thus mitigating the necessity for ongoing specialized services (Tier 3).

SUPPORT SERVICES

Learning Support Throughout the academic year 2022-23, ISB identified over 200 students who would benefit from supplementary instruction through Tier 2 services. The Elementary School (ES) recognized the potential gaps in foundational literacy and math instruction for students in their early years. Consequently, they initiated class-wide Tier 2 interventions, offering explicit and targeted literacy and math instruction. As time progressed, the focus shifted towards smaller groups of students, allowing for more personalized interventions. Meanwhile, in the Middle School, our Learning Support Associates collaborated closely with content teachers to identify opportune moments within the class time for one-on-one or small group interventions. These interventions aimed to address specific instructional gaps identified through multiple data points. Similarly, in the High School, the combined efforts of Learning Support Teachers, Learning Support Associates, counselors, content teachers, and administrators were leveraged to analyze data and identify students who would benefit from personalized 1:1 coaching. This coaching encompassed areas such as enhancing learning habits, setting goals, completing assignments, and improving organizational skills. While each division implemented a slightly different approach to Tier 2 interventions based on the unique needs of their students, the ultimate outcome remained consistent. We estimate that our proactive early intervention approach successfully prevented approximately 85% of the identified students from requiring further services. As the world gradually recovers from recent events, we anticipate a decline in the number of students identified for Tier 2 services. Nevertheless, we remain committed to continuously refining our Tier 2 practices, ensuring that the value of prevention always exceeds the challenges of remediation.

Life Centered Education Expansion (LCE) We are thrilled to share an exciting development within our Learning Support program: the expansion of our Life Centered Education (LCE) program into the Middle School. The LCE program offers a meticulously personalized curriculum for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Initially launched in the Elementary School during the academic year 2017-18, we are delighted to announce that this year we have officially introduced the LCE program to our secondary level, catering to students in Grades 6-8. Furthermore, we are eagerly looking forward to the upcoming 2023-24 academic year, as it marks the initiation of LCE services for our first group of high school students. ISB’s unwavering commitment to delivering a high-quality education to students across the diverse spectrum of neurodiversity serves as the cornerstone of our teaching practices. By incorporating the LCE program into our curriculum, we continually strengthen our ability to provide an enriching learning experience for all our students. Our ultimate goal is to foster a community that transcends mere inclusion, going above and beyond to ensure that every ISB student feels a profound sense of belonging within our educational environment. Published Study We are thrilled to share the exciting news of the publication of a study conducted by one of our high school learning support teachers, Mr. Phil Bowman. This remarkable achievement highlights Mr. Bowman’s six-year-long dedication and research efforts, which have now been recognized and published by the National Association of Special Education Needs. The publication of Mr. Bowman’s study not only celebrates his individual success but also serves as a resounding validation of the exceptional work carried out by the entire learning support team here at ISB. This significant accomplishment affirms the expertise, commitment, and unwavering dedication of our learning support department, bringing immense pride and joy to our school community.

ISB International School Bangkok

The central focus of our EAL team revolved around fostering collaboration to better support students. Throughout the year, the team engaged in multiple meetings with divisional Heads of Student Services and the vertical PreK-12 team. These gatherings provided valuable opportunities to assess and enhance our divisional EAL programs, identify areas of strength and growth, and ensure alignment across all grade levels, from PreK to 12. During these meetings, we engaged in insightful discussions regarding our shared beliefs on language acquisition and recognizing the profound connection between culture and language. Emphasizing the significance of Translanguaging in all educational settings, we explored ways to provide enriching opportunities for students to leverage their diverse linguistic abilities. Another key development of the year was our team’s decision to adopt the WIDA Framework. This comprehensive system of standards and assessments is specifically designed to empower English language learners (ELLs) by supporting their language development and academic achievement. The WIDA standards delineate the crucial language skills and competencies that ELLs need to cultivate in order to excel academically in English-speaking classrooms. Encompassing listening, speaking, reading, and writing domains, these ELD standards serve as an invaluable guide for our instructional practices. To ensure a successful implementation of the WIDA Framework, we have started our journey by familiarizing ourselves with its principles and piloting various proficiency assessments, particularly within our Admissions process. Looking ahead to the upcoming academic year 2023-24, we are excited to announce that all EAL teachers, along with select administrators, will receive comprehensive multi-day training during the first semester. This training will equip us with the necessary tools and knowledge to begin implementation of the framework in the second semester, further enhancing our support for English language learners at ISB. Throughout the year, our dedicated counselors have provided informative and engaging parent education workshops and sessions. In the Elementary School (ES), we hosted book clubs centered around essential topics such as digital citizenship (Screenwise) and emotional intelligence (Permissions to Feel). Additionally, a comprehensive five-week parenting workshop (Active Parenting Now) and various other parent sessions were conducted to provide valuable guidance and support. The Middle School (MS) offered a workshop on Supporting Teens During Tricky Times and teamed up with the High School on offering transition workshops and a session about Social Media and our students. In addition to their work with the MS, the HS organized insightful sessions covering crucial subjects such as Drugs and Alcohol, and conducted an engaging book club (Stolen Focus). Across all divisions, our counselors have worked on developing and facilitating lessons, assemblies, and learning opportunities to nurture the social-emotional well-being of our students. In addition to our well-being curriculum, we remain flexible in our social-emotional services, allowing us to address specific needs that arise within the playground, classrooms, hallways, or through data collected from our social-emotional screeners. Through a collaborative effort between teachers and counselors, we utilize our collective knowledge to identify target areas early and offer additional support to students who may benefit from it. Furthermore, this year, all counselors and key administrators underwent specialized training on suicide prevention and postvention, facilitated by renowned international expert Scot Poland. Dr. Poland not only shared valuable insights and multiple resources during his interactions with our team but also reviewed our guidelines and practices, providing us with invaluable validation and identifying areas for further growth and improvement.

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICE

MARC DE VRIES

Deputy Head of School/CFO Chief Financial Office

This year’s opening Enrollment of 1711 is the highest in five years. The student population represented 58 nationalities. Our income totaled 1,779 million baht and we realized an operating surplus of 22 million baht or 1.6% of tuition fee income. Our cash position increased by 199 million in large part due to an increase in working capital and donations. ISB’s financial position remains very healthy in part due to the generous contributions we receive from donors, which totaled just over 77 million baht this year. As a non-profit organization, ISB reinvests all of its income back into the school, recognizing that teachers have the single most significant impact on learning. This school year 84% of the tuition income was allocated to salaries and benefits. This investment in quality education has allowed us to attract and retain the best and brightest teachers, while maintaining a student-teacher ratio of 9.5 students to 1 teacher school wide. We invested 153 million in capital projects as we continue to implement our rolling 7-year facilities masterplan. Capital projects included enclosing the ES Auxi Gym, building the Athletics office in the breezeway, as well investments into technology and learning equipment.
